5 of 5 Couldn't have been easier Sunday, August 17, 2008 A Customer from Whidbey Island, WA
I purchased this print server to replace a D-Link that had to be constantly reset. All I did was fire up the administration software, configure the Linksys server with the address assigned to the old server, and immediately started printing from all our networked computers. The only issue wasn't the fault of the server but of a user not allowing the new device access through their firewall (the MAC was different causing the alert). Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 Nice little print server Wednesday, August 22, 2007 Mr. M from NM
Ordered this print server Monday got it delivered Wednesday
its a great Upgade for your network installation was fairly
easy set it up on my 2 Dells works great with my Linksys firewall router and HP deskjet printer the bad things about it
is the power plug is on the side not the back so it takes up more space, and it gets kinda hot thats probably why its got a metal housing other than that Linksys gets the Job done!!

5 of 5 Once you get it working it works Thursday, June 07, 2007 Rich from Kevil, NJ
I had some minor issues getting my PC's and Mac to work. I had to search the web and found someone who had the same issue I had. Make sure the Queue name is "ip"
Once I found that out I connected 4 PC's and 2 Mac's without issue to a Samsung ML1740 printer.
One more bit of advice, load the printer drivers before you try to setup the network printer on your computer, makes like slightly easier.
I also have used 2 of the network connections this print server gives me and my mini-network is fine.
Overall I have no issues, been working for about 3 weeks. Was this review helpful?
1 of 5 JUST PLAIN USELESS Monday, May 14, 2007 lindsaymichael from Bremerton, WA.
Took it out of the box, hooked it up per the instructions, loaded the drivers with the supplied utility CD and it has never sucessfully printed a single page. I have many years experience wih LPR print servers (Lantronics, HP Jet Direct, and others) and have never had such difficulty making one work. Have burned a couple of hours with Linksys online chat technical support without sucesss. Have tried with Windows Vista and Windows XP workstations to no avail. Sever test good to printer. Workstation sees and talks to the server and the print server web config page. But, it just don't print. Maybe someday tech support and I will figure it out. IF I have enough time ...... This is actually the 2nd PSUS4 Print Server that I have purchased from Buy.com. The first was for an HP LaserJet 1300 and it worked great. I decided that I would try it out on my HP PhotoSmart 7550 and it worked there as well. The installation is only slightly tricky in that you can't use the HP printer installation software since the software is designed to find the printer connected to your PC's USB ports. Since it can't find it, it won't install the full printer suite. The work around is to install the Linksys Print Server first and then use the Windows printer install option, select the Linksys print server port as the port the printer is attached to and then use the "Have Disk" option to manually install the printer driver from the CD supplied with your printer. You won't have the full functionality of the HP printer software suite (like the window that shows how much ink is left in the cartridges), but it's a small price to pay for being able to print from any PC in the house. Please understand... I am not an IT professional, but this item does take a pretty good understanding of basic network configuration techniques to get it up and running. I had to manually enter its assigned DHCP address and reassign it to a static IP address on my linksys home network. Then, I had to lookup the help topics on Linksys' web site for installing a printer using Windows XP LPR. I did all of that because the setup CD was worthless across my existing home network. I have it up and running now with my hp deskjet 3650, and it is a GREAT product for only $55! Was this review helpful?

This print server worked great. It did take me about 10 minutes to get it setup and then about 10 minutes trying different things and reading the user guide on the included cd. I then discovered exactly what it takes to get it to work. The first time I tried to print something, it didn't work, and I rememberd from past diagnostics on my Minolta PagePro 1250W printer that I needed to disable bi-directional printing. To do this, all you do is right click the printer, and click the port tab (I think) and then uncheck the bi-directional support. This may disable some features, but I don't think my printer will work with it enabled. Once I fixed this, the device works great and I got an amazing price! Way to go buy.com! I read a review for this Linksys USB Print Server. The review indicated that one printer it did not work with was the HP LaserJet 1012. My 1012 works just fine with this print server. I am pleased with the product, and recommend its use with this printer. Folks, please make sure you know what you are doing before you slam a product in a review. It spoils it for those of us who know what we are doing. Was this review helpful?

In reading earlier review, I wasn't sure if this item would be compatible with my new Canon i560 printer. I contacted both Linksys and Canon tech support and neither could confirm or deny the compatibility. I took a chance and purchased it anyway. The PSUS4 set-up was easy. The instructions on how to configure the computers to add this network printer, however, were lacking. After stumbling through this for an hour I was up running. Everything works great and I am no longer tied to having the printer tied to a computer. Plus I have two extra ethernet ports in the office. I would highly recommend this device for the home or small office. Was this review helpful?

I bought this since my two printers were usb and I wanted to add them to the network. According to linksys this will work with most usb printers. NOT TRUE. I have a photosmart 7350 and a LJ 1012 and neither of them work. The print server recognizes them but will not print anything. When contacting linksys they told me "to be frank with you sir, I would just return it since it is not compatible with any of your printers." I would recommend contacting their support before purchasing this print server / switch. I would like to know what printers would actually work with this however they would not provide that information to me.
