The unit is easy to install and use. The Powerchute software is a bit slow to start up and clunky, but still useful. The computer and peripherals ride through blackout, exactly as I hoped. I had one occasion when the neutral lead from the house got torn; this caused voltage swings, and overvoltage that took out some equipment. However, everything plugged into this UPS was protected, it switched to battery temporarily, indicated high voltage, and eventually switched back to main power when things settled down. A good purchase!

A model that stood test of time. Still preferred over newer fancy looking models. This model is supposed to handle voltage fluctuation that are both over and under. Most UPS models handle dipping voltage (brown outs) well, but not all can handle voltage that are steadily higher than 115V. I already had a couple of this model in the office in Manhattan; they handled several power outages we experienced over the years extremely competently. So, when I needed to buy another UPS recently, I researched what was available these days but still bought this older model. By the way, one can hot-swap the batteries without having to shutdown the equipment connected to it. It takes only about a minute or two to replace batteries.

Easy to hook up, works invisibly, has a multitude of plug-ins available for all devices, and backup power lasts easily 15 minutes. I use APC products at work and now at home. The company is also easy to deal with when I have questions. Highly recommended.

I use this unit for protecting a workstation and a few peripherals (eg. laser printer, speakers, 32" HDTV used as monitor). I would never purchase back-up/surge protectors with less than 1000VA; drawing the line at 1000VA has served me well so far. I recommend APC RS series.

This unit works so well, it is almost unbelievable. It does exactly what APC says it will do and you can trust it. I use the optional battery pack with it. I have it hooked up to 2 PCs and I have room for a third. That would be everything for the PCs, 24" flat panels and accessories too! Where I'm at, we have lots of wandering voltage and spikes. This unit catches them all and the PCs don't even know it. :)

Its an APC UPS. They work reliably and theres not much to them for the end user to worry about. 1 button, 4 lights and a bunch of plugs. The batteries are swappable, so rather then throwing out the ups you can recycle the battery and get a new one. I always buy APC and have for many years.

I work with computers. I can honestly say that this UPS is the BEST one I've ever had! The system I've have hooked up to it is a Dell Precision 490 Workstation, with 8Gb of RAM, 2 - 10000 RPM server drives, and 2 - Dual Core Xeon 3.6Ghz processors. IT EATS ELECTRICTY. In fact, I've also got 3 20 inch flat panel monitors hooked up! The UPS that came with the system was a 1000VA unit. When we had a power failure the system overloaded the 1000VA unit and I lost everything I was working on. Enter the BackUPS RS 1500 unit: It'll run the system for at least 20 minutes, and, with the additional battery pack, runs the whole system for 1 hour(!!!). It includes a USB connection and monitoring software that it superub. The software allows you to tell the computer when to turn off (i.e. when 5 mintues of run time are left) and also reports when the power is just flakey (i.e. voltage is too high or too low, but not off). You will not be unhappy with this UPS, and I highly recoomend the addition external battery pack (BR24BP).

<p>I know this is going to sound like some sort of paid ad for APC, but I swear the following story is true.</p><p>I spent all afternoon working on a major project for a client and decided to take a break to get some dinner. While I was out, a single-engine plane made a crash landing about two blocks from my house. In the process, it took down power to some 7,700 houses in my neighborhood for about three and a half hours.</p><p>I heard all this from a neighbor I ran into while I was out. My heart sunk as I tried to remember if my project was saved and backed up. I raced home to check and found my system still up and running!!! I will never run a computer without a UPS from now on!!</p>
