D-Link, an industry leader in networking, delivers a network printing solution with the compact 10/100 Ethernet USB Print Server (DP-301U). With this USB print server, users can print from virtually anywhere on the network to the connected USB printer* using computers with different operating systems.

With its high-speed USB 2.0 port, the DP-301U connects to a wide variety of printers and delivers astonishing printing speeds. The set up process is remarkably simple. It can be configured using a web-based setup utility. Alternatively, Windows-based PCs can also use the included PS Admin program to manage the DP-301U. Its compact size ensures that the USB Print Server can be added to any printing situation without creating additional installation hassles.

The USB Print Server can alleviate printing problems by simplifying network printing. Sharing a single USB printer eliminates the need to maintain and purchase supplies for multiple printers. Additionally, a dedicated print server removes the need to have a dedicated computer powered on to support the printer.

The DP-301U supports virtually all major network operating systems and protocols. For exceptional network compatibility, clients can communicate with the DP-301U using TCP/IP, NetBEUI, and AppleTalk transport protocols. Regardless of your network setup, the DP-301U is an excellent addition.

The D-Link 10/100 Ethernet USB Print Server (DP-301U) is the ideal network printing solution for the home, office, or school. Simply adding this dedicated print server to your network frees up system resources and simplifies your printing experience.

5 of 5 Great solution to networking my HP Laserjet 4 Monday, June 22, 2009
al from Haddonfield, NJ
I needed a way to network an elderly HP Laserjet 4 and this did the trick. I can now use this without powering up my desktop to print from my wireless lan PC. I was skeptical, but this has been working fine for the last 2 months.

1 of 5 Not compatible with all printers Sunday, June 21, 2009
A Customer from La Canada, CA.
The overview of the product indicated that it would work with all USB printers. However, this is not the case. As a Canon MX310 did not work and I was told after 30 minutes with Dlink customer service line that it would not work. This after they made me make changes to my IP setting so my internet connection would not worked. They finally told me to return the product because it was not compatible with my printer. Plus I later learned it would not work with MAC OS systems. Great job on advertising. Now, I am out shipping costs.

5 of 5 Great Value Thursday, June 18, 2009
hosey from New Haven, CT
I needed an inexpensive print solution so I could print from both my wireless laptop and wired desktop PC. Out of box hookup to my older home network with a Netgear wireless B router was straightforward as well as configuring both PC's running XP. The only tricky part was resetting the XP print drivers (the connected printer was not included in the Windows XP and I lost the user/driver disk used when I initially installed the printer so time back. Works well, the only weakness is you can only connect 1 USB printer (I have a 2nd HP color printer/scanner)

2 of 5 Didn't work Saturday, May 30, 2009
Bob from Clarkston, MI
I'm using Mac OS 10.5.6. This product did not work with my Epson printer. It is very hard to configure. After reading some more reviews, I WILL try again. It's just NOT a "plug and play" product like I expected.

Jeff from New Lenox, IL
Followed the directions - plugged it in the home network and connected the printer, an hp DeskJet 932c. Connected to the printer server from a web browser and configured the network settings. It was up and running in minutes and have not had any problems with it. Great price, fast shipping, highly recommended - Thanks buy.com!

Simple to use and setup in minutes. Connects in three steps: Plugs in power cord; connect ethernet line; and setup your home network for printer. I can access the printer on my desktop connected to LAN as well as from my laptop using wireless connection.

5 of 5 Great little server Friday, May 15, 2009
Dave from PA
Am using this print server with a HP Officejet 6110xi printer which is not on the supported list. Since the printer is now connected to the server, I only have print functionality.....the other features of the printer like scanning, etc., are not available since it is not connected directly to a computer, but that is not a deal breaker for me. Possibly with a newer printer this might be overcome. I have 3 computers running off a wireless router....2 desktops with XP Pro (one wired/one wireless) and 1 laptop w/ Vista64 wireless. Since the router assigns IP addresses via DHCP, I did not follow the instructions exactly with the server when setting it up. I changed the IP address in the server to be the next in line with my computers. I did not set up my computers with a permanent static IP address except to gain initial access to the server. After changing the IP address in the server, I changed the wired desktop back to DHCP. Also could not use the actual drivers for the printer....on the XP machines I just used the generic HP Officejet series and on the Vista64 it recognized the printer as an HP Officejet 6100 series. But the device works great...it actually processes print jobs faster than when it was networked through the wired desktop. But will advise that you might need some networking knowledge to set everything up.

5 of 5 Great value Thursday, May 14, 2009
Marc from New Durham NH
After getting sick of restarting the print spooler on my Windoze Vista box that my HP LaserJet 6P was hooked to every 30 minutes, I decided I needed a better option. After looking around a bit, I found this printer server. It arrived within 2 days and I set it up in 5 minutes (including changing the system from using DHCP to a static IP). I was then able to print once again from my Windoze XP system and my Linux system (as well as the pesky Vista system) with minimal changes. Well worth the price.

5 of 5 D-Link Makes Good Network Products Thursday, May 14, 2009
Tazfus from Woodstock, GA
I bought this for my HP Photo Smart 7350 printer. I have a wireless router that had a printer server support. However, I upgraded my TV service and internet to ATT U-verse and no longer had DSL. Unfortunately, ATT's router didn't have print server support and I was thinking of getting a Wi-Fi printer, but this solved my issue. I could not be happier with the D-Link DP-301U. My Home network is running at optimal efficiency.

5 of 5 D-link does it again! Wednesday, May 13, 2009
trengen from San Gabriel, CA
It works like a charm. It's also very easy to setup by following the quick setup sheet. This is perfect for people who don't like to hook up the printer to their laptops in order to print, when they can just do it through their wireless connection.

5 of 5 Great Value ... Monday, May 11, 2009
A Customer from San Francisco Bay Area, California
I bought the D-Link DP-301U a couple of weeks ago and have been happy with it so far. We have a network with wired PCs and a wireless Laptop and the DP-301U allows network printing from all of them. The PCs are running Windows XP Professional as well as Windows Vista. I connected the Print Server through a Wireless Router and was able to set it up through my Laptop using WiFi. A new local port with the name of the Print Server had to be created and once this was done, the Print Server was accessible on the network. The setup does require some networking knowledge and access to the printer drivers. This unit is ideal for WiFi networks that have a Wireless router with an extra Ethernet port.

3 of 5 Good basic PS Monday, May 11, 2009
adhm from Plano, TX
Works good as a basic print server for a USB printer. Installation went well, following included directions - bit cumbersome, but doable, for the price. Only issue I have is dual sided printing don't seem to work properly (Epson CX4200). Neither does ink level monitoring. Of course other functions that your printer might have like scanning, fax etc are not available through this 'print' server.

5 of 5 Works great so far on PC and MacBook Sunday, May 10, 2009
Philip from Centerport, NY
Nice little device that allows you to share a printer over a wired network without the need to leave a computer on. It has been working flawlessly for a few weeks. Setup was slightly complicated since this print server and my router are different brands the ip number on the router needed to be temporarily changed so that the print server could be configured. I am using both PC and MacBook.

5 of 5 D-Link Express EtherNetwork DP-301U Print Server Friday, May 08, 2009
A Customer from Salt Point, NY
Installed easily. I configuraed a static IP address on my Netgear MR814v2 wireless of 192.168.0.10 for the DP301U. Then, just powered it on and ran through the configuration steps. I have an older HP1210 (not on the supported list), and it works fine with the DP301U. Three XP-pro PC's work flawlessly. Two Vista Preminum laptops would not. The would send print and then encounter an error from the Vista spooling service. To get the Vista laptops to work, I had to configure the print driver to print directly to the printer (no spooling) - ok for printing a page or two. This error may be a problem with a)Vista b)MS Vista supplied HP1210 driver(s). Anyway, this is a very good, inexpensive print server solution. Very happy with it.

5 of 5 Excellet print server Tuesday, May 05, 2009
A Customer from San Jose, CA
It works every time, all the time. A little tricky to set up, but since this is my second one, it was relatively easy this time. The beauty of it is that it will drive almost any printer in existence. There are no printer drivers contained in the server; they are all in the computer. The server is transparent. If you can run the printer connected directly to your computer, you can run it connected to the print server. Another aspect that I like is the fact that you can set up the print server using only the port configuration dialog in the printer properties. You don't need any other software or drivers at all. I would buy more of these in a flash.

5 of 5 Works grreat, set-up was fairly easy. Tuesday, May 05, 2009
MikeS from Staten Island, NY
Great print server for the price. All my XP PC's connected easily, had a 'bit of a problem connecting Vista and Linux-Ubuntu, but they connected too. Had a TRENDnet TE100 P1P Print server prior, that was very fussy and hard to set-up comparing to this one.

5 of 5 Good price/performance! Tuesday, May 05, 2009
Don F from Swansea Illinois
This unit works fine, and you can't beat the price! It solved a long standing pain of trying to print on a central printer from various wireless computers, running different operating systems. It was not a walk in the park to set up, but wasn't that difficult either. The default IP address for the Server conflicted with something else on the network, but once we changed it, everything worked great!

difficult to setup although i didn't try the tech support it took me a while to figure out that bidirectional support had to be disabled for the print server to work but after setup it works great on my wireless network connected to my Kodak printer i wish i had remebered to buy an ethernet cable to connect it to my network switch on the same order but live and learn

This print server was not that hard to set up and like anything, once you do the first device the rest is easy. Works great. I've got three laptops and a desktop connected to the print server. The size of this server is really small and can fit anywhere. Great price and free S&H.

5 of 5 D-Link DP-301U Print server Monday, May 04, 2009
A Customer from Glendorta, Ca
The server was an excellent value at the time I purchased it. It arrived on schedule. It was not easy to install. I had to call technical support to get it installed. They were very quick, knowledgeable and friendly. It now works perfectly. You do loose the printer monitor function as is normal for most devices of this type. I highly recommend the 301.

Worked fast and easy. Mostly wanted people to know that despite the list of supported printer it does work fine on the Canon Pixma iP6000D. I called Canon tech support and they weren't even sure it would work, but if you have this printer don't worry, it DOES work fine

5 of 5 Cured my printer woes Monday, May 04, 2009
Karl B from Sellersville, PA
We have a home network with 5 computers connected to it. The printer used with this device is an HP Color LaserJet 1600. Since I purchased the printer, it has been connected to my wife's computer, with shared access for the other computers. This has worked well with most applications, but with a few, I could not get it to print. The only work around was to print to pdf and then print the pdf file to the printer. It worked ok, but was very cumbersome and time consuming. HP told me it wasn't their problem, and of course an application company told me it was HP's problem. I purchased this print server to see if it would make my problems go away. To my surprise it did! It took a little time to figure out how to set it up (the instruction manual leaves many questions un-answered), but once set up on the network, and added as a printer on all computers, I have not had a single issue. Great fix for me, and the price is certainly right!

5 of 5 Works great, setup a little tricky Wednesday, April 29, 2009
Spidey9 from San Diego, CA
I needed to set up a printer (HP Officejet 5610) on my home network that would be accessible from machines running both Windows and Linux (Ubuntu), and this unit does just that, and does it perfectly. Setup was a little tricky. The default IP address of the unit was outside the range of my home network, so I was unable to access the server via the web interface. It was necessary to install the PSadmin software (included with the unit) on a Windows machine and use this to configure the server. Once this was done it took all of 30 seconds to install the printer on each of the Linux machines. The Windows machines were a little more complex, due to HP insisting on using an installation program instead of simply providing .inf files. I had to install the printer locally and then change location in Properties to the TCP/IP port I had created. Once all this was done, everything works perfectly. I can print and access the server web interface from any computer on the network, Windows or Linux. I cannot use the other features (scanner, fax, etc.), but I did not expect to be able to do this. All this at a great price!

5 of 5 Works as designed Wednesday, April 29, 2009
Tom from Orland Park, IL
The print server worked as designed. However, my printer is an all-in-on. After installing the print server, I was unable to use a number of the features (scanner, integrated card readers). I jumped in because of the attractive price but didn't do my homework. Not the fault of the print server.

5 of 5 Works Monday, April 27, 2009
MattB from Gunnison, Co
Great value. My printer (Samsung ML-2010) wasn't on the supported list but I thought I'd give it a try. If I don't follow the instructions and just set up the port with the default settings it seems to work well with XP and Server 2003.

5 of 5 Just works Monday, April 20, 2009
Luc from Chicagoland, US
D-Link DP301U is installed and happy with LaserJet 1012, unidirectional mode. This is a GDI USB printer. Used the small driver from HP site (they have a full install one, about 57MB, and an older one, less then 1MB). Did not have time to play with all options in the print server - just set it to fixed IP, changed the name of the print server to "PS" and port name to "U1", and told it I am installing a LaserJet (checkbox). Did not have to touch DLink install disk, or instructions. Read the manual afterwards, and found that I did not follow instructions - when setting up the port, I did not use the IP address and "tcpip print port", I used "local" and "\\ps\u1" (netbeui over TCP enabled in XP and Win2000). To be on the safe side, I also added PS and its IP to HOSTS file. Two client computers, Windows 2000 and XP Pro SP3.

4 of 5 not for novices to the world of wifi and router co Sunday, April 19, 2009
A Customer from Rockville, MD
Product works fine, but I must say it was not a complete breeze to set up. I had to ask a buddy of mine who worked in IT to help me set everything up. The main problem is that the instructions that came with the product are pretty limited and unless you know your stuff when it comes to playing with your wireless router settings and manually assigning IP addresses, then it will be daunting. However, since it has been up and running, it's been flawless. Didn't try their help line so I can't comment on support. Seemed to me to be a steal at 20 bucks. 4/19/09

4 of 5 Great unit, except ... Tuesday, April 14, 2009
A Customer from Centennial, CO
This device is a great bargain and works well. I configured all of my PC's in a few minutes. The only problems I note are (i) I loose the printer monitoring (print head & ink cartridge status) for my HP OfficeJet Pro K850 printer, and (ii) it is a pain to set up for an Apple MAC to use. But for the price I won't complain... much.

5 of 5 Easy Setup (once I read the manual and followed di Monday, April 13, 2009
OrangeBeard from San Francisco, CA
I thought, "I know what I'm doing" and just tried setting it up manually. I wouldn't recommend trying this approach. Take your time and read the directions, follow them and you can't go wrong. Don't forget to set up the IP to the same subnet as your wireless router. For instance, if your wireless router is setup with 192.168.1.1 on your local network, then add the print server as 192.168.1.x where x is a number 2 to 255 (in this example 1 is already taken by your wireless router). Also, following the instructions didn't tell me that I had to enable printer sharing in Windows XP. After I enabled printer sharing I was able to map to the printer using my MacBook (OS 10.5) and actually print!

5 of 5 Low Price - Works Great Monday, April 06, 2009
A Customer from Bellmore, NY
The print server was immediately assigned an IP by my router. Interestingly, the pre-configured IP is 192.168.0.10. I was able to access it via my web browser with 192.169.1.10. I installed it on 5 pcs in the house without a problem. Eventually I went back into the control panel and changed the IP to 192.168.1.10. It did work fine with that the default IP even though their control panel showed 0.10. I highly recommend this as a great solution at a bargain price.

5 of 5 Very nice Thursday, April 02, 2009
Tom from Houston, TX
Not too big of a fan when it comes to DLink products but I have to say this product actually worked straight out of the box. I was very hesitant to buy this but the price couldn't be beat so I took a chance. Glad I did, works very well with my HP 7760 photo printer. No problems configuring my Vista 64bit desktop and my wife's XP Laptop. Didn't even crack the seal on the CD that it came with. Web based configuration was very basic and simple to setup. I did however, had to look up the dhcp IP that was assigned to it by my router. Was able to print within 15 minutes or so. Hope this helps.

5 of 5 Print over network? check! Wednesday, April 01, 2009
Bill from Sykesville MD
This little unit does what it is supposed to do. It doesn't have many bells and whistles and at $20, I would not expect it to. I followed the slightly complicated setup instructions and had my printer working in less than 15 minutes. A couple minor glitches: 1) I had to go to HP.com to download a driver for my HP AIO C4000-series printer 2) I had to search message boards to figure out that I should also turn off "enable bidirectional support" in the printer's control panel once installed. Prior to this discovery the printer would stop after half a page. In summary, I would highly recommend this little nugget of utility.

5 of 5 Great Value Sunday, March 29, 2009
Ron from Montgomery, AL
On Windows XP, just follow the detailed instructions and it connected and worked great with my HP LaserJet 1320 printer and 5 computers. The printer is very fast printing the first page. I did have a problem with Windows DHCP assigning the IP address on 1 of 3 wireless connections. I just unplugged the DP-301U while the computer booted and connected to the network and internet. Then I plugged the DP-301U in and everything has worked fine since. I am very pleased with the DP-301U print server and Buy.com's great price.

5 of 5 Nice Product, requires some maintenance Saturday, March 28, 2009
A Customer from Middletown, DE
This is a really great product if you are trying to connect a USB printer to your network. Please note that you will need to reboot this on occasion, but that's really a small price to pay for what you're getting. Set up was easy, configuring your PC was not too difficult, and once set up, you're on your way.

5 of 5 Great Product, Simple & Straight Forward Monday, March 23, 2009
A Customer from Grimes, IA
I had been looking for networking ability for my USB printer for some time, and had only seen costly, confusing options. This was what I considered a great deal for only $20. It did require a little networking knowledge to set up, but reading the instructions and making sure you have your printer drivers available should make things as simple as they can get. I set it up through Vista, and so the instructions weren't so applicable, but it was still easy enough to figure out. As someone else mentioned, the default IP was different than what it mentioned in the instructions (192.68.0.5), and so it may have taken a bit of work for me to figure that out had Vista no automatically detected it on the network.

5 of 5 Great way to setup network printing Wednesday, March 18, 2009
Hemant from SLC, UT
The setup was easy apart from the fact that the default ip had to be changed to be in the range of my wireless network. I would highly recommend this product for anyone looking for a network printer solution anywhere.

3 of 5 Forget Dell All-in-One Printers Wednesday, March 18, 2009
Bob from Phila., PA
Setup was easy, but it doesn't work with my Dell Photo 924 All-in-One (AIO) printer. Prior to buying this product, make sure you check out the list of compatible printers on the manufacturers website: http://support.dlink.com/faq/view.asp?prod_id=2135&question=DP-301U

5 of 5 Works great Tuesday, March 17, 2009
Linh from Newcastle WA
This print server works great with my Epson R340 printer. The printer is now shared with three desktops and three laptops (XP and Vista) through the Linksys wireless router. I had a little problem at first that this print server took the static IP address which I assign as an static IP for one PC. It happened since this PC is off during the setup of the print server. But this can be resolved easy by reassigning the IP for the print server and change the printer port on other computers to this new IP. It could be resolved quicker if you don't mind to assign another static IP or just use the auto IP for that PC. But for me, I need to keep the static IPs for remoting access to multiple PCs at a time that already setup.

4 of 5 Works great, tricky to setup Tuesday, March 17, 2009
Matt from Aurora, CO
I was able to get a Vista(ugh) and a Windows XP machine connected in a fairly short amount of time. I do have another Windows XP computer which I have not yet been able to get connected. The setup is a bit tricky and you must do every step for success.
