5 of 5 Great Stable Performance Sunday, January 27, 2008
    Mech Engr from Baxter, TN

The cable modem was easy to set up and has performed flawlessly. It has been very stable (only had to reset it once due to a cable company glitch) and works very well with my Linksys "54" router. Although I would not consider the price "cheap", I was very pleased with the value.

5 of 5 Excellent Cable Modem Sunday, August 05, 2007
A Customer from Virginia Beach, VA
This modem replaced a five year old motorola that failed with help from our retriever. The dog sleeps under our computer desk and sheds like you read about which caused hair to infiltrate the old modem. So far the Linksys has performed well and its designed should minimize hair intrusion and damage. Replacing the modem was quite simple with the only extra step being notification of the ISP of the new modem and its model & serial numbers.

    4 of 5 Worth it Wednesday, June 13, 2007
    A Customer from Staunton, VA
If you have to rent a box, this is a good way to save money and possibily increase your upload/download speeds as the company's boxes are usually capped at a certain speed. For example, our network rated at 22 mb download compared to the 6 mb the company said we should have.

It's really good product and it's easy setup. The only thing is to call your Cable/DSL company to change MAC address.

    5 of 5 Great Product....Great Price...Easy Setup Sunday, March 11, 2007
    C. Mann from Oklahoma City, OK
After upgrading my Cox HSI to premimum service, I needed to upgrade my cable modem for the higher speed, and the Cox Tech recommended the Linksys BEFCMU10. The install took less the 20 minutes, out of the box, connect, call Cox, just a mac address change, link up with the cable and gone...piece of cake.

    5 of 5 Works great even with Win98! Thursday, February 08, 2007
    Charlie from Las Vegas, Nevada
I installed this modem about a month ago, and so far it is working great! Installation of the modem itself was a breeze. I have an old machine running Win98 that was on a dial-up before, and I installed an ethernet card for better performance for cable over USB. Instructions included with it won't tell you how to re-configure your network settings and browser to talk thru the ethernet port though, but then again, that is not Linksys's problem. Once that was done by me and the MAC address was given to Cox cable, it was up and running. Integrates very well with Linksys router also, they stack nicely for a clean appearance.

5 of 5 Linksys Cable Modem Thursday, July 07, 2005
    A Customer from Millburn, NJ
Works flawlessly with Comcast in NJ!! I highly recommend the investment to avoid those pesky rental fees when you don't own the modem. Do the math--how many months of rental fees would pay for this modem? And after that...the money is in your pocket(or in the pocket of that special child or spouse or former spouse who periodically picks your pocket).

    5 of 5 Comcast Compatible Wednesday, February 18, 2004
    VAR from Baltimore, MD
This modem is in fact on the list of compatible modems at Comcast. As a VAR I've not only installed it, but serviced it at clients homes who had actually received the modem from Comcast. For it to work with some Comcast customers and not others has little or nothing to do with the modem itself. Barring a defective product, which does happen occasionally, a failed connection is a Comcast or End User issue most likely.

    5 of 5 Linksys cablemodem Monday, January 12, 2004
    jjs777 from Danvers, MA
Since there are conflicting reports that this cablemodem is compatible with Comcast, I'd like to say that in the Boston area it is in fact compatible, and after testing network throughput I have seen rates as I as 1.9Mbps when testing at www.bandwidthplace.com. So evidently if some folks experience a lack of compatibility, perhaps it is the region they are in, but since this modem is DOCSIS compliant I'm not sure why it would NOT work except user error?

    5 of 5 A great product Friday, October 17, 2003
    sberto from Coraopolis, PA
My comments are about the BEFCMU10 ver.2 modem. I can't vouch for earlier models. After reading a lot of negative reviews about the Linksys BEFMCU10 modem I've begun to see a pattern. Most of these complaints seem to stem from the ISP and not the modem itself. The thing to keep in mind is that communication and storage speeds can vary greatly depending on the status of the ISP's server. Compatibility is also ISP dependent. I've used two other brands of modems besides the Linksys and I find it to be as good or better than either of them. And it's hard to beat the price. I bought my Linksys for $49.00 after mail-in rebates. Keep three things in mind: 1. Communication and storage speeds depend largely on the capacity of the ISP's server. 2. Check with your ISP before purchasing any modem to be sure that it is approved by them. 3. Wait for the rebates.

5 of 5 Good product at a good price Tuesday, October 07, 2003
    sberto from Pittsburgh, PA
I've read quite a few reviews that slam this product. After a while I began to see a pattern. It seems as though most negative experiences are actually caused by the ISP and not the modem itself. My problem was getting my ISP to provision this modem in a reasonable amount of time. Even though it was on their approved list, it took 2 weeks and 5 phone calls to finally get someone to move on it. Once I was up and running it worked great. Some critics claim it's slow. I'm currently running at 2.9 Mb/s communication and 430 Kb/s storage speeds. I think it all depends on the capacity of the ISP's server. This modem seems to be able to take whatever the ISP can dish out. I've used two modems of different manufacture in the past and find the Linksys BEFCMU10 Ver. 2 to be as good if not a better product. I can't comment on the older version. Just keep two things in mind: 1) Check with your ISP to make sure they approve the use of this modem before purchasing it. 2) Realize that ISP speed capability can vary significantly depending upon whether or not they keep their servers up to snuff.

Great Product!! Easy Installation, it truly was one phone call to COMCAST gave them my MAC # on the back of the modem....and i was surfing the web. No more renting cable modems for me. 5 of 5 It works with Comcast, on the first try. Saturday, July 26, 2003
    Joel from Troy, MI
After reading reviews from other Comcast customers, that were unable to make a connection, I was a bit hesitant on purchasing the Linksys Modem. I did my homework with Comcast and Linksys tech support and got a green light from both parties. The modem setup and connection was as easy as advertised by Linksys. I had absolutely "No Problem". The modem stacks with my Linksys router and makes a very neat, clean, and tidy appearance. Buy.com was great, as usual. I received the modem within 3 days of the time I ordered it. The modem speed is a little bit faster then the one that Comcast rented to me.

    5 of 5 Adelphia compatability Sunday, October 13, 2002
    philkacz from Buffalo, NY
I want to purchase this modem, but was concerned when I read in other customer reviews that this cable modem is not approved by Adelphia. I called Adelphia twice and spoke with two different reps, and they both assured me that if a modem is listed on their web site (the LinkSys is) they do support it.

    5 of 5 Great performance....great price! Tuesday, August 20, 2002
Bob T. from Warner Robins GA
I'm a Cox subscriber and the changeover from the old Toshiba rented modem was flawless. No more $15....YES $15 per month rental fee. This modem will pay for itself in less than 6 months!!! The speed seems about the same as the old modem but my kids report ping times have dropped in online gaming. We'll see! I highly recommend this cable modem!

5 of 5 Very Easy, Extremely Satisfied Monday, July 08, 2002
    Lex from Mesa AZ
When the hardest part is opening the shrink wrap and the second hardest part is holding the phone on your shoulder while you disconnect the ethernet cable from the old (slow, expensive) rental modem - you know you've got a winner. This will pay for itself in 8 months, was very easy to install, and works great! The Cable America Tech said it would take 20 to 40 minutes to sync up on their network. The good news is 5 minutes after power up I was surfing at the speed of HBO. Great job Linksys and Buy.com.

    5 of 5 Easy, Fast, Cheap...Go Get It. Sunday, May 26, 2002
    Mark Phillips from Fresno, CA.
It is just as easy as everyone says. One phone call to att.com to give them the MAC and serial number. I didn't even have to disconnect my router (SMC Barricade). The speed went from 1.7 megabits (3COM) to 1.8 with this one (as tested at speedtest.com). Now I can save $10/month rental.

    5 of 5 Works like a charm Friday, May 03, 2002
A Customer from Great Falls MT
I subscribe to the ATT cable network and bought this modem as it was listed as a compatible modem - and it is. After providing my MAC address to customer service I was linked up and surfing the web in about 10 minutes. It stays on 24/7 and hasn't given me any problems. I hooked it up to my Linksys cable/dsl wireless router and now have internet access at three computers spread around my house running Win98/2000/XP. No driver installation was neccessary. Couldn't be happier.

    5 of 5 5/2/02 Comcast now supports BEFCMU10 Thursday, May 02, 2002
    Jeff Kaplan from Birmingham, MI
After reading several of the reviews on this cable modem, saying that Comcast Does NOT support this Modem. I called Comcast of Metro Detroit. After Giving me three other manufactures, 7 models, the "Tech" said they did support just one Linksys model- BEFCMU10. So I will order this to go along with the router I am ordering.

5 of 5 Excellent value, fast and it looks good Wednesday, May 01, 2002
    Luc from Mission Viejo, CA
I bought this to replace the Motorola CableModem that I rented for years from Cox. Now that I have it installed I wish I had bought it sooner. The main reason I waited was that I was not looking forward to the transfer process, having experienced the email support after Cox switched to their own network (from @Home). Well, the very knowledgable support person at Cox switched me over in less then 15 minutes! I have the impression that my connection is faster. It also looks great at the bottom of the stack formed by the Linksys Switch, Router and Wireless Access Point I bought previously (it is not a perfect match as it is slightly bigger). For me a deserved 5 out of 5!

    5 of 5 outstanding value... Tuesday, April 16, 2002
    A Customer from Noblesville, Indiana
We had been using the 3COM cable modem rented from our @home provider for the last 20 months. This Linksys cable modem was a dream to install, totally compatible, and now it typically runs four to five times faster than the two year old 3COM modem. Totally pleased with this company and this product.

5 of 5 Great / Easy to set up cox San Diego Tuesday, April 09, 2002
    Jens from San Diego, CA
Cox cable San Diego - I just had to call them and tell them the MAC address and the serial number of this linksys and I was on. Replaced a cox provided "Surfboard" modem and I see about double the speed - it's nice as this device has a 100BT connection on the back and I suspect that really helps scoot things along for my 100BT network. Saves the $10 a month rental fee too.

5 of 5 It really is as easy as the other reviews say... Saturday, March 16, 2002
A Customer from Aliso Viejo, CA
I'm a Cox customer, and it literally took 10 minutes to get everything taken care of...5 minutes to connect (had to crawl behind the comp) and 5 minutes on the phone. The only glitch was that I had to release and renew my IP, which the phone rep didn't tell me. Otherwise, it was painless, and works flawlessly.

It took longer to open the box than it dids to hook it up and get it running. AT&T can kiss my *SS with their 10$ a month rental. No problem with set up.Fast. You won't be disapointed with this modem. I am using it with a Linksys router for my home network.

    5 of 5 Satisfied Customer@Cox Cable Wednesday, February 27, 2002
    swbaum from Phoenix, Arizona
I promised to come back here if the changeover was as smooth as others had indicated. It was smoother! All I did was unplug my Surfboard 3100 and plug this one in. (Word to the wise, take the serial number and Mac number from the back of the unit down before you do that, or you'll have to crawl behind it to find it when the Cox operator asks for it, as I did.) I then just called Cox, gave them the two numbers and voila! Back in business in 45 minutes or so when the changeover hit central processing. I did not need to install CD drivers or use any of the included software because I just hooked back up to the ethernet connection in my PC Card. Best thing about it NO MORE $15/month for modem rental! (I kick myself- I must have paid $1,000 in rental fees before I got this done.) I even considered another SB3100 on eBay, but this was a better deal!

    5 of 5 Linksys BEFCMU10 and Comcast.net Wednesday, February 27, 2002

An excellent product that installed and performed like a good dream. Unfortunately, the "new" Comcast.net broadband service DOES NOT support the Linksys Cable Modem, and forced me to remove it from service. Just sharing my experience so that others don't fall into the same hole...

1 of 5 Not Supported by Comcat @ Home Tuesday, February 26, 2002
    Dave from Danbury,CT
I too have been told by Comcast that this modem is not supported by the Comcast@Home network. When I purchased it I assumed that since it was DOCSIS 1.0 compliant that it wouldn't be an issue, but Comcast won't add it it their network, so I am being forced to return it and purchase a make/model that is supported by them.

5 of 5 Finally a peripheral that works perfectly the 1st Friday, February 22, 2002
A Customer from San Francisco, CA
I bought the Linksys BEFCMU10 largely because of the reviews and price at Buy.com. The modem arrived 48 hours after I ordered it and it took literally 5 minutes to setup and get back on the Net. Just disconnected my old modem, connected the Linksys, booted the computer, went to AT&T website and registered the modem as AT&T instructed me to do, restarted the computer and that was that. Worked perfectly and appears faster than the rented 3COM I had. All this and the best price on the Net at Buy.com. Don't look farther-this is what you want.

    5 of 5 Excellant product Friday, February 22, 2002
    A Customer from Irvine, CA
Outstanding product. The Linksys cable modem works well with a Linksys router on the COX network. The addition of the cable modem was as simple as unplugging the old Motorola and plugging in the new Linksys. Software provided for use with USB connection. If you use ethernet connection, no software installation required! One tip though...If you have an attenuator pad (signal strength reducer) installed on the cable line feeding your old Motorola modem, remove it! The signal strength required for the Linksys modem is greater than the Motorola modem. It took four phone calls to COX support to figure that one out!

5 of 5 Just plug it in and go... Tuesday, February 19, 2002
Darren from Rancho Santa Margarita, CA
I finally took the step and bought this Linksys modem (I've always liked Linksys). I LITERALLY unplugged my rented modem, plugged this one in and called COX to update the MAC address in their system. Took a whole 5 minutes! Since I didn't need to connect via the USB I didn't have to install anything. COX said it could take up to an hour to begin working, but it was up in a few minutes. Very nice! I highly recommend this to anyone using a cable connection who thinks they will be using it for more than 10 months.

5 of 5 Another wonderful Linksys product Monday, February 18, 2002
    Craig from McMinnville, OR
Talk about plug and play. All I had to do was hook it up, call AT&T to get my user id/password and go to a special URL. After logging in, it asked me if I wanted to switch to the new modem. I said yes, and I was up and running. A word of advice: make sure you go to your cable provider's website and check out their approved cable modem list before buying one. I think it sad to see someone give a bad review to a product because their service provider does not follow the DOCSIS standard.

1 of 5 Unsupported by Comcast Friday, February 15, 2002
    John from Ann Arbor, MI
Despite Linksys' claim that this unit is DOCSIS compatible, it does not seem to be universally so. Comcast cable does NOT support this modem. Even after troubleshooting it and registering the MAC address with Comcast manually, the cable modem failed to work on their network.

    1 of 5 Poor support Tuesday, January 29, 2002
    A Customer from Amherst, MA
I purchased this modem to eliminate the need for an ethernet card by using the modem's USB connectivity. The modem, connected by USB, repeatedly crashed my system. I'm certain this is a driver issue, but LinkSys had no rewritten driver and didn't answer my e-mails or tech support calls.

5 of 5 Good product, great price! Friday, January 25, 2002

This is an excellent buy. It replaced the rented modem AT&T provided and the installation was seamless (it isn't rocket science anyway) with no quirks or setup required. Great price.

    5 of 5 Great Product!! Monday, January 21, 2002
    Jerry from Sullivan, WI
I was using a Motorola cable modem renting it for four dollars a month. I have other linksys products and they work well, so I decided to try the cable modem. Well, it works great!!! My speed went from 86kbps to 175kpbs! Quite a difference!! I love it, and would recommend it. Of course you should check and make sure it will work on your isp. I have Charter communications, and it works great.

5 of 5 Better than Expected Sunday, January 06, 2002
    Ed from Poway, CA
This product is better than expected. When I got this product is was easy to set-up, just called up the cable company (Cox) gave them the serial number and MAC number. Even through the product was not on the supported list there was no problem in getting the cable modem to work. Now I am averaging 2.5 MBPs compared to 837 kbps with the rented modem.

    1 of 5 BEFCMU10 Compatibility ? Friday, December 28, 2001
A Customer from Wash Township, NJ
Linksys Product Support advised me on 12/18/2001 that the BEFCMU10 is compatible with the Comcast @Home high-speed Internet. Questioning Linksys on my inability to "sync" with the @Home signal I received the following E-mail on 12/21/2001. This comes from our (Linksys) R&D - It has come to our attention that several Linksys Broadband customers are not being allowed to turn on their Linksys modem which they have purchased through E-commerce or retail. Please be advised that the modems are approved on the following networks: AT&T, Cox, Time Warner, Charter & CableVision. It is not approved on the following networks: Adelphia or Comcast. I suggest checking for yourself before purchase - several times on both sides of the fence - until you get the same answer twice from different people. The unfortunate part is that Linksys doesn't state this in their advertising. There's no doubt that they make great products. "Buy.com" has been excellent in accomodating return of my purchase.

    A Customer from Kent, WA
Another great Linksys product! I bought the modem as soon as I found out that it was on AT&T approved list. Sleek packaging and matches with my Linksys router. Performance wise, rock solid. I can get the full 1.5Mbps speed on downloads with the AT&T network.

5 of 5 Works great, super price. Thursday, December 20, 2001
A Customer from St. Paul, MN
Just received my Linksys modem today and it literally took me 2 minutes to hook it up (to my ethernet card). Heck, I didn't even read the instructions! Just pop in the power and the ethernet cable. One call to my provider to give them my MAC address and I was on my way. I did not notice a slowdown or acceleration in speed so far. For $105, it'll just take 11 months to recoup my cost.

    5 of 5 when I saw it, I bought it. Thursday, December 20, 2001
Kit Carson from Panama City, FL
When I got this modem in I switched it with my old rental and called my cable internet provider (Comcast). I gave them the mac address and serial number right off the modem and they switched me over. No difference from my RCA modem or the 3com that I used to have. No difference except for the price, I own the Linksys and won't have to pay the rental fees anymore.

    5 of 5 Best Value I have seen! Saturday, December 15, 2001
    www.retrogameroom.com from York, PA
This is the best value I have seen so far on an external cable modem. I was renting a Samsung cable modem but once the rental fee went up I started looking. This modem will pay for itself in less than one year of rental fees! My cable company (www.suscom.net) has a list of modems they recommend. This one was one of the best values on the list and my performance did not change at all with the linksys modem. Yes the cable company is the bottleneck, not the modem!
