5 of 5 Great Card, Great Price Monday, August 11, 2008 Bryanword from Jacksonville, FL
I installed this card in my four year old Dell Dimension 8400 desktop running WinXP Pro and it was detected and set-up quickly with no problems. The included software for video editing isn’t really robust, but it detected my Canon ZR950 camcorder immediately and works flawlessly with it. This card alone is a great deal for the price. The IEEE-1394 cable that’s included in the box is an added bonus. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Firewire works well Thursday, January 17, 2008 A Customer from newyork
I was a bit skeptical about the card after reading some of the reviews, but I took a chance. I installed the cared and the cable, and it worked perfect. I did not use the software that it came with. I used the windows software that was installed on my computer Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Very Simple Tuesday, May 29, 2007 Kevin from Rochester, NY
Very simple installation. Windows XP recognized device and no drivers needed to be installed via CD. have used with my Cannon ZR500 video camera and results have been great.
Not a fan of the editing software provided, hence a 4 for the performance mark. Was this review helpful?

Bought to connect my Sony camcorder to the computer to transfer digital video because usb gave fuzzy video. Didn't have any problem at all installing the product. Video looks great. Best price at time of purchase compared to other firewire card on Buy.com. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 StartTech 4 Port Fire Wire IEEE-1394 Card Wednesday, November 01, 2006 CSI, Inc. from Greensburg, PA
Excellent, install the card and restart PC. Windows XP Professional recognized and installed proper driver with no issues. Have used one of the ports for a Western Digital external hard drive. The drive works fine and shares very well on the network. Very pleased with this product. Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 Great & Inexpensive Hardware. Easy, easy, easy Monday, October 23, 2006 Bert Cruz from Philadelphia, PA
Hardware was easy to install and was easily detected by my PC. The software it came it lacks ease of use and at times has not recognize my video cam. The way I see I got a great deal for the hardware and will shop around for better software. Highly recommend it.

5 of 5 Great product! Saturday, January 07, 2006 A Customer from Lincoln, Nebraska
This device is terrific - installed it in minutes, and Windows XP loaded the drivers for me when I rebooted. I didn't even have to use the CD-ROM that came with it, and it works perfectly. Fine product at a great price, recommend highly. Was this review helpful?

I have been using this card for nearly 6 months for transferring video from a camcorder to the PC. I am not a heavy user and bought this card chiefly because of the price. I am completely satisfied. It is value-priced and if you don't already have the 4-6 pin cable, you must buy this. Most stores sell just the cable for this price.

5 of 5 great product for the price Tuesday, October 05, 2004 A Customer from philadelphia, pa
Great value for 6' cable, card, and software to mpeg-1. Can't complain, but if software enabled burning to DVD format, couldn't ask for more. Took only minutes to install; worked great with Panasonic DV. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Excellent value for money Saturday, February 08, 2003 A Customer from Tampa, FL
I initially had some trouble installing the driver software on my home PC. A call to Startech tech support resolved the issue in 10 minutes. I was very impressed with Startech's super fast support from a very knowledgable and courteous support personnel. Currently, everything is working just beautifully and I am very happy with the product. Was this review helpful?

This product comes with everything you need to get video from your camera to your computer, edit clips together, and put them back.
The card and cable work flawlessly and were a snap to install in Windows 2000. The software is primitive and not very full featured. I wouldn't mind that (for the price) but it is also full of bugs for any more advanced features, and whover wrote the error messages has no grasp of English. I can't comment on support from the company that makes the card, except to say that they claim that satisfaction is their goal. Ulead (the software manufacturer) on the other hand was not helpful one bit and from what I read on the web, that's typical of them. I did download a 30 day trial version of the latest software version. It's a lot cleaner and seems to work. But my 30 day trial ended abruptly after 10 days when the software told me my time is up. So I'm not sure I'd trust them enough to buy an upgrade.
The bottom line is that the card and cable alone are worth the price. If your needs are very basic, the software will do. If you really do want the latest and greatest Ulead software, you are still better off buying this card even if you don't need it, and then getting a software upgrade from Ulead. That's cheaper than buying just the software. But if you must have decent software as part of the deal, this isn't for you. But expect to pay more for something else.

5 of 5 Easy to Install/Excellent Value Tuesday, March 19, 2002 A Customer from Running Springs, CA
The card installs very quickly and the package comes complete with a connector cable for your camcorder and editing software for your videos. No problems installing into a PIII with Windows 98. Haven't had a chance to use the Ulead VideoStudio software yet, but the rest of the package was well worth the cost and the items ordered arrived within 2 days. Great service. 4 of 5 Got Less than I thought I did. Thursday, January 17, 2002 Mike from TN
Overall, I love the card. It was very easy to install. I rebooted just in case, but didn't have too. I recieved the card after about 10 days and then when I looked into the package, there was only the card. I thought that the features listed a cable that came with the package. But nope, I e-mailed buy.com and they said it did not. So how did the guy below get cable, software, and card for $30. I only received the card. So make sure you know what your getting before you buy. I think the 400mbs is awesome! Was this review helpful?

Just like the previous reviewer I found a great product with poor documentation (it was just printed too small to read). Plug & Play worked fine on Win ME and I was loading video literally within 2 minutes. I have a JVC GR-DVL510 and I'm amazed that JVC put so much effort into promoting the USB still link and don't plug the 1394 more. The assistant in Best Buy assured me that the 1394 was not functional and that there was no way to upload video without buying a $1600 MPEG caamera.
Excellent price also - Best Buy wanted $50 just for the cable, here you get card, cable and software ,$30.
Delighted. Was this review helpful?

Jan 14th, 2002: Within 2 weeks of purchasing this kit and my new digital camcorder, I whipped up a music video for my daughter's first birthday. Many of the parents where amazed & asked me how I did it. For only $30 bucks, you can't go wrong with this kit.
PROS:
(1) The hardware and software was easy to install on my HP Windows ME computer.
(2) The VideoStudio software from Ulead.com was very good and easy to use. It was an excellent tutorial. But it's not the latest version. Ulead.com allows you to upgrade for another $50. I may do that so improve the performance (see next note).
(3) I was able to transfer the finished video back to my digital camera. But I lost about 1 second of the soundtrack from my 3 minute video (Beatle's "It's Your Birthday"). So that's why it's a 4/5 for performance.
CONS:
1) VideoStudio online help files were really no help.
2) One feature is the ability to insert still images. I had some older .jpg files, but the software does not properly crop the images. Instead, it squeezes the photos if the dimensions are not 1 by 1.5. So I had to resized all my old photos to make a slide show.
3) After copying an .mpeg file to my Zip drive, I got a bunch of .VIO files showing on my task bar. I still need to contact Ulead.com for this problem. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Good card, Bad instructions Wednesday, January 02, 2002 Bob from Elgin, SC
The card works great and is easy to install, with one exception (on my computer, at least). The install program automatically reboots the system and the instructions direct you to check Device Manager to verify install. I didn't see it.
I shut my system down, waited approx. 20 seconds, then restarted my system. 1394 Bus Controller was listed in Device Manager, verifying installation.
The only item I used from the software provided was the Microsoft driver. I'm using Windows ME and use Microsoft Movie Maker and Photo Editor and am quite satisfied with those programs.
It's good hardware at a great price. Was this review helpful?
