1 of 1 customers found this review helpful. 5 of 5 Good sub for the price Wednesday, November 28, 2007 mC from Hillsboro, Oregon
I had been looking for a subwoofer setup for my 93 Mustang Hatchback for while. I didn't need to blow out the windows, but instead wanted to add some low end bass to my car system and this got me just what I wanted. _________________________________________________________________________________ I have a Kenwood KDC-MP225 with 2-3.5" Dash, 2-6.5" Front Door and 2-6x8"Rear Seat Side Panels speakers so there wasn't any low end response to speak of. This sub really did the trick, adding good low end bass to my music (mainly Alternative, Metal, Punk, Hard-Rock). _________________________________________________________________________________ Minor Complaint#1 - Installation was a little tricky as no instructions were provided or are available on the web. As I found out, it would have been nice to no the line level input needed for this sub, but anyway...There are two inputs, line level and speaker level. I found that hooking the sub up to my stereo line out wasn't sufficient. While I would have liked the line out to provide the input for the Amp it just didn't have enough signal to do it. Keep that in mind should you install one of these. To get around this I hooked up directly to the 5x8 speakers in the back. This provided a good signal level for the sub Amp to drive. _________________________________________________________________________________ Additionally there is a "On/Off" switch for the sub which is driven off your antenna up/down signal wire that most aftermarket stereos have. Hooking this up will turn the sub on/off when you turn the car on/off. Also remember that you may have to get creative with your wire routing (where is the closest 12V power source (I had to tap into my fus box), how will you route from the front of the car to the back for the signal wires and power antenna wire, etc). I have a hatchback so everything could have been exposed, but a little creative wire routing did the trick for me. _________________________________________________________________________________ Minor Complaint#2 - While this unit does have a "flat side" so it's not just a tube that will roll around in your car, don't expect it to stay put. This unit will roll pretty easily so if you really want it to stay put, you better anchor it down. I haven't yet but likely will soon. _________________________________________________________________________________ The adjustable cross over frequency and volume make this easy enough to set up. There are no loud hissing or popping noises that come from this unit when you turn the car on/off either. There are some Blue LED's that light up the Sub when it's on. They look nice, but if you have this in the trunk or in the hatch there isn't much use to them. _________________________________________________________________________________ Overall this was a good system addition. For the price you can't go wrong...to "build your own" sub/box/amp/crossover setup you are likely going to need a lot more money. I was looking at a 10" pre-built box/amp/sub/crossover from a local Stereo shop and even on holiday clearance it was going to cost me double. So as long as you don't expect to blow out the windows in the car next to you and you just need a "light backrub" from the bass, this is likely the best unit for you.
