As with the previous review , the unit produces an excessive hum when plugged in. Clearly audible from across the room (18 feet or so). I don't consider myself overly picky, but the noise level is unacceptable if used in room, in an open rack. For those with a dedicated A/V closet this may just be the ticket.
Well built and effective performer, with the noise caveat.

The set-up was easy. The LED screen tells you battery level, load, has warning lights for overload and battery low, and also has a alarm for when power goes out (which can be shut off). My only problem with the device is that it hums. It is louder than the fan on my DLP and the rest of my equipment. In the quiet parts of a movie you can hear it. I bought two, one for me and one for my friend. His has the same hum. I almost returned it. But I am going to install an A/V rack farther away from the theater so it won't be an issue. If you can afford a quieter, and probably more expensive, battery backup, get that. You get what you pay for with this device. Was this review helpful?

Although this battery backup is a bit heavy and large (about the size of a VCR), it's worth its weight in gold. During a long and unexpected power outage, it kept our satellite tuner recording for 75 minutes, getting all of a major tennis match. During frequent power blips & brownouts the rest of the day, it protected all our home theater equipment beautifully. Easy-to-see and interpret display on front. We are SO glad we got this particular unit. Offers more sophisticated protection than most others, and has long run time when activated. Was this review helpful?

Since I was buying a rear projection tv I thought it might be wise to also buy a battery backup unit (to protect the bulb). I've lived in this house for four years and, while there has been quite a few (ten or twelve) day time power outages in that time, there has been only one in the evening when the tv was on. This unit is very well made and uses surprisingly heavy gauge chassis material. The line interactive voltage regulation and good sine wave approximation are welcome features. One little feature I *really* appreciate is the switch to disable the "on battery" alarm. It has enough outlets to power the normal complement of home theater components along with data, phone and coax surge arrestor connections, too. There is a front panel battery access door that will make battery replacement very easy. Was this review helpful?
