While this may not seem like a revelatory achievement on Peterson's part, the compilation does, in fact, live up to the title PURE FIRE. Archie Shepp, John Coltrane, Art Blakey, and Yusef Lateef are only a few of the artists featured, and the music represents a dynamic cross-section of post-bop, modal, and free jazz influence.
