| | | Inspired by the True Story of the Most Prolific Serial Killer in History. Inspired by the true story of a legendary 25-foot man-eating crocodile comes the intense, terrifying horror movie Primeval, starring Dominic Purcell (TV's Prison Break) and Orlando Jones (Runaway Jury, Evolution). An American news crew, determined to capture this voracious monster and stop his demonic rampage, travel deep within the darkest reaches of Africa to hunt their prey. But Gustave, as the natives call him, is also on the hunt - always on the move, always elusive, always hungry for human flesh. Heart-pounding fear is nonstop in this edge-of-your-seat nail-biter about the cunning killer who continues to blaze his blood-soaked trail of terror! "...a throwback not only to the creature features of the 1950's but to later flicks like Prophecy and Alligator..." Jim Hemphill, Reel.com "...with its exploitative images of civil war and genocide, it's the Blood Diamond of 25-foot-killer-crocodile movies." Scott Tobias, The Onion A.V. Club

 | Primeval - DVD Review By: Daniel Solomon - Cinema Blend DVD Reviews Published on: 6/14/2007 11:11 PM | | The promise that comes from that brilliant line on the cover of Primeval is completely and brutally dashed by the film's end. It seems like it would be a no-brainer to make a film about a humongous, man-eating crocodile into something either fun or scary. It would be only the act of a true moron to screw such a premise up. Well, apparently director Michael Katleman is the type of person who could trip over a cordless phone or get hit by a parked car. Through sheer force of stupidity, he has made the impossible possible. ...read the full review |

| | Professional Reviews | Variety 7 of 10 Horror movies are routinely slammed for recycling the same old formulas, so you have to give "Primeval" some credit for imagination, or at least perversity: It's 55% giant-crocodile "Jaws" and 45% fact-inspired, "Blood Diamond"-esque civil-war-violence thriller. There won't be any Oscar campaigning for this Africa-set action movie, but despite some inevitable silly moments, handsome widescreen production is decently handled genre fare...Editing is sometimes a little too frenetic to maximize the heavily physical, fairly gory action. Though Gustave is clearly a CGI reptile when seen in full-body motion, production package is high-grade for this sort of enterprise, with excellent lensing by Edward J. Pei of the spectacular wildlife and landscapes (South Africa standing in for Burundi). Soundtrack features a nice mix of African and orchestral sounds - Dennis Harvey
