Similarities between podiatry and medicine

An intra-professional hierarchy has long been recognised within medicine. Merton et al. (1956), Becker et al. (1961) and Schartzbaum et al. (1973) all describe such a hierarchy, which is led by specialist surgery, followed by general surgery and thereafter various divisions of internal medicine.
