I recently switched over to Linux Ubuntu 8.10 My computer is an older sony viao. I was running the onboard grapics card and couldnt enable beryl and compiz. In addition my computer only had 512MB of ram installed so I decided it was time for an overhaul, I upgraded my ram to 1 gig computer ran smoother but there was still some stuttering with my music and I was using up alot of resources. I bought this video card and all I can say is MY GOD what an improvement! I freed up 200mb of system ram instantly. Ubuntu automatically downloaded the right drivers for it. It runs very smooth and I now have the linux cube :D

5 of 5 Performance Booster for Older Dell Dimension 2400 Saturday, March 14, 2009

After visiting my son and using his Dell Optiplex with a separate video card, I decided to transition to a separate video card from the installed integrated video setup on my Dell Dimension 2400. My use of this computer is mostly for internet and for downloading of digital pictures from my camera. The performance change was significant and well worth the $60 cost for the card and the $30 cost for the upgraded power supply. Installation was very easy. The time reduction between loading up of pages from the internet or pictures from files is a real time saver. I have probably extended the use of my machine by many years. I have not tested it on video games. Note: From my limited knowledge of cards, this seemed to be best card for an old fashion PCI slot as most of the better cards are being built for the PCI-e and AGP markets. This was also the best price for this card.
