4 of 5 Kind of pricey for being made in China. Wednesday, April 08, 2009 TheLazyComic from Atlanta, GA
The unit works well. Being that it's another product made in China, I think it's a bit over-priced. The software is not very "user friendly". I purchased it to work on my old slides, and it does a fine job with that. I was experimenting with some old negatives too. It did a good job, but that's where the software could be a tad more user friendly. On a scale of 1 to 10, I'd rate it a 7. (10 being the best rating). Of course, Buy.com was totally awesome, as I always expect them to be. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Amazing results, fairly easy to use for a decent p Monday, March 16, 2009 HC from Alexandria, VA
The installation process was quick, easy and flawless. It works perfectly with Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit. Scanning software has a lot of great options for scanning. From the box to start scanning only took me 45 minutes.
It has been very easy to use, although I have had plenty of negative scanning experience. I definitely recommend it to anyone that has a lot of negatives they want to digitize. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Professional results at a bargain price Wednesday, January 21, 2009 Bill K from Stafford, Va
The Plustek Scanner from Buy.com brings professional capabilities to the public at a bargain price. With scanning up to 7200 dpi it offers more resolution than most of the film that is being scanned can deliver - which is a good place to be. The infrared dust and scratch removal is truly remarkable - it recognizes the majority of the imperfections, and the software fixes them automatically. There is a little learning curve on the SilverFast software, but once you go through the excellent video tutorials, you quickly realize that the software alone was worth the purchase price. The scanner can be pretty addictive - I found myself bringing in old slides and color negatives until the wee hours of the morning. The results are very satisfying. My only regret is that I did not take better care of my negatives over the years(I just threw them in an old shoe box) because the scanner and software are capable of amazing results. Clean (scratch free) negatives look fantastic, and the damaged ones are very acceptable. With time and work using the included software most imperfections can be repaired. Keep in mind, however, that information lost on a slide or negative can not be magically replaced. The software does a great job of estimating what was there and "fixing" the scratch or dirt etc. but it is like an automated "cloning" tool from Photoshop - it fixes lost pixels based on surrounding pixels. The smaller the imperfection, the better the fix. I absolutely recommend this product to anyone who has a lot of slides or negatives they want to bring into the digital age. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Excellent Scanner Saturday, November 08, 2008 A Customer from Dillon, CO
I found the Plustek 7200i SE to be a great tool for getting my old family slides into digital. I initially bought a Veho scanner (which you've seen sold under various brands) and it was terrible - a toy. It didn't even allow adjustment of brightness.
Installation created a few mysteries - the quick start guides don't really explain the install options. However, I found that installing the two CDs with default options did everything correctly. Then just press the Intelliscan button and Silverfast comes up. Procedure is to pre-scan, then hit the auto-adjust button, then scan (which saves automatically). You can also do extensive fine tuning of the colors, etc., and also turn on the impressive infra-red dust/scratch removal.
I scanned 800 slides at mostly 3600dpi in less than two weeks. I was able to restore heavily faded and scratched slides to excellent quality. I'm very pleased with this scanner.

4 of 5 Good film scanner at the price Saturday, August 30, 2008 Bill from Santa Barbara, CA
The 7200i was promptly delivered. It's compact and produces hi-resolution scans faster than consumer-type flatbeds with film adapters. Documentation, even the 'manual' on the included CD, is sketchy, but the driver (Plustek QuickScan) installed without problem on WinXP-sp3, and functions with the QuickScan front-panel button (for basic scanning & saving).
The included NewSoft apps are pretty elementary. But SilverFast is a more powerful photo editor that also seems to be the only easy way to get to the scanner's Twain interface and IntelliScan front-panel button, allowing some useful image tweaks at scan time.
The included SilverFast program CD was defective (no obvious flaw, but wouldn't read on any of my 4 CD/DVD drives). Plustek support dropped the ball on my email request for a replacement, but after waiting 2 weeks I called their USA support number and they sent a new disk the next day (this one worked). 1 of 5 Awful, awful awful Monday, March 24, 2008 A Customer from New Jersey
I've had it a week and still can't get the system to Save a scan. You can't tell which of the downloads to use. What's a Presto? It just scans and scans and scans again and never saves the image, even though you tell it exactly which folder and file to save it in. There is no SAVE AS, or SAVE or anything. Use the densitomer, whatever that is. Click to use the scratch remover. Nah, doesn't work. Still sees the lint or whatever. When you know how to use it, it is probably simple to use, but where is the help? Why does it keep on asking for the serial number? Shouldn't once be enough? Maybe you like typing in 30 letters and characters each time you turn the system on and a time or two when using it. The set up wizzard is for the software install only, not for using the equipment. My photo scanner was never so confusing. Buying this was a big mistake.

1 of 1 customers found this review helpful. 1 of 5 Extremely poor user manual Tuesday, March 18, 2008 Keith from Cambridge, MA
To be honest, I expected much more from a German make. The scanner appears to work, but the software is cumbersome to use with little in the way of explanation in the paper or electronic user manual. After spending three hours on it, I gave up. Scanning slides, negatives, and photos should not be this difficult. Was this review helpful?

I have scanned about 150 slides so far and the output has been excellent. I am amazed at the clarity and detail that the scanner can provide. The dust and scratch filters are not as good as I expected, but hey, how can you really expect anything to recognize such things, let alone wipe them out without any effort. Set-up was very easy and operation is simple. It does take time though, but there is no way that I would trust all of my old slides to a discount house to scan for me, so this was the answer. In general, I am very pleased! Was this review helpful?
