I read the other reviews before buying this scanner and I would agree with some of them that this is a good unit for its value. It's easy to use and I haven't had any problems with its physical performance. The color on the scans is not the best and I was hoping for better, but that could just be that my negatives are old and some are scratched. The scratch remover does not work at all. The programs they send with hte program are not the most user friendly and the automatic color adjustment is a bit weak. But, overall, it has done the job I wanted. I would purchase this same one again.

Getting started was pretty easy. The Silverfast application seems to be very quirky. Example (When using ScanPilot, after clicking on the preview pane to adjust the crop before the informational pop up window (to tell you to do the same) which is a bit delayed... The whole application freezes which requires a restart.) Additionally, there were several times when the application did not recognize the scanner which required a power cycle of the scanner and a restart of the application. When you manage to get the whole thing working properly the scans produced are pretty good quality for my home use. When scanning a transparency slide for the producation of a 5 x 5 output at 500 dpi the scans rate is very tolerable. Aside from the issues listed above it works good.

The setup and use is pretty easy. We were scanning slides after only a few minutes. The only draw back is the software that comes with it. It installs 2 different software products to manage and view the image and it isn't readily apparent how they interact. It should be much more intuitive than what it is. But that isn't a showstopper. Overall, this is an excellent scanner and a reasonable price!

easy installation, fast, good scanning program, good resolution. comes with a carrying bag. not as easy to slide the film & scan it properly, but it'll get better after some practice.

Nice compact unit, resolution is great for the price. Install only OK - on one machine I had to install a couple times to get it to work, but on another machine I just installed everything from the start and it worked fine. The SilverFast software is really nice, a lot of options for cleaning up and enhancing the scanned slides - highly reccommended! Now I just need the time to scan in all my 600 slides!
