    At first, I didn't think the PS3 was going to be such a big deal. Then I opened the Box. This was by far the BEST purchase I have ever made!! Instead of renting DVD's for home movie use, I use the Blue-Ray player. The picture clarity and video games on a big screen Hi-Def TV are un-beatable. This is going to be a hard one to top. I evemn get to play games over the net through my PSP that are in my PS3. Who ever would have thought that was possible???

    Thats all I keep saying....WOW!!!! WOW!!! WOW!!! I was very hesitant in buying this system. The BlueRay, the 80GB hard drive, and the backwards technology is what sold me on it, not to mention the motorstorm bundle too. But I am so glad I bought this thing now more than ever. I just received it today and this is the first break I've taken from playing it. I didn't know I needed to buy a HDMI cable to get it in High Def. So when it came in the mail I just hooked it up with the video cable it came with, well that lasted about ten minutes into the game. I didn't even turn it off when I left to get a HDMI cable. Well anyway this is by far the best gaming system I've ever played on. The graphics are awesome on the games I have now and the commercials for GTA 4 look insane. I highly recommend this system to anyone interested in it.

    I decided to get an 80GB PS3 over a 40GB because I wanted to plan for future where having a hard drive with more memory might be nice. What I am glad about (that I didn't know until after the purchase) is that the 80GB PS3 is backwards compatible with PS2 games. Costco has the 40GB with a nice overall package (extra controller, one game, blu-ray remote control) but the lack of backwards compatability was the deal breaker. Blu-ray DVDs look fantastic on my Sony XBR 46' LCD TV from the PS3. The Internet Web Browser is a nice additional feature on the PS3, but I wish that it was compatible with my Hotmail account. It is still not as good as IE or Firefox browsers. My overall experience with Buy.com has been favorable. I would do it again.

    Buy this if for only the upsampling of DVDs. Apparently processing power is the key to this, and normal DVDs look so good, that one wonders why you even need any high definition ones. I formerly had an up sampling Sony player - everything looked grainy and washed out, with the PS3 even the oldest DVDs now look like HD. Using it with a new Panasonic 50" Plasma - the one "check rated" as the best TV ever tested - so when I say the PS3 is good, I mean really good. Add to this the games, the wireless internet, the photo viewer, the card reader, and the best sounding CD playback I have ever heard (I compare this to Krell CD player,,it simply blows the multi thousand dollar Krell away) - its a major bargain. Only minor issue I have had, is that it does not like some videos on DVD-Rs, but this is not enough of an issue to not give it 5 stars in every category. Also you must use it with an HDMI connection - they should really include the cable.

    WOW, that sums it all up. Everything is just amazing with this gaming system. Once you buy your hdmi cord and hook it up to your lcd tv, your ready for one heck of a gaming experience. It will play regular dvd's and then upgrade the picture. Not all games are 1080p but some are (Uncharted: Drakes Fortune and COD4) and even the ones that arent (only 720p) look amazing. Probably like most people I was at a toss up between this and the 360 but I flipped a coin and this one won, and I can't say anything bad about it.

    It's exactly what I expected it to be. Graphics & gameplay are great. It can get a little loud when it is hot & the wireless setup isn't as simple as on a laptop, but those are the only two annoying aspects. I'm very happy with the system. I would suggest getting a second controller even if you will only play one player games for those times when your controller battery dies. Otherwise, you have to stay tethered to the system while it charges.

    Overall im very happy with this product. I resurrected all my ol skool ps/2 games for the first time(a plus of course). Everything about the ps3 is just so greatly appreciated. Blue Ray, online capabilities (free), 1080i and so much more! You can't beat it. Note: I previously owned an xbox 360, and with all the hardware problems that I had to go through, I sold it on e--y as a broken system. Ps3 is the way to go!

    This was purchased for our 12-year old grandson. The PS2 game's graphics do NOT show up as good as they did on a friend's PS3 with 60GB. PS1 games would not load at all on our grandson's new PS3, but they would load on the friend's PS3 with 60GB. It seems that the PS3 with 60GB is able to run all the Playstation games that have been released over the years.

    I wanted a Bluray player so why not this one. I love this thing! Has all the digital connections you need to hook up to your recevier, DVR etc. DVD's look awesome and there's games to boot. I got the remote to go with, please note that if want to use the remote you'll need to update the console and to do that you need to connect it to the Internet. Not a big deal and what most will do anyhow, but thought I should mention.

    I have this PS3, my brother has a 360, I'm pleased with my choice. My brother has already had to send his 360 in for repair. The PS3 is simple to setup, simple to use, and the gameplay and graphics are great. I really don't notice a difference between the 2 systems.

    SO I had this PS3 for less than 15 days when the Blu-Ray Drive Died. I called up Sony and gave them all of my information. They claim to send you an empty box for you to mail them your PS3. Then after fixing or replacing it will you get it back. No even exchange (most good companies offer this option - while keeping your credit card on hold). So get this after 9 days of seeing the box has not tracked..I contact them to find out what is the story . And they tell me that they didn't have my address to send the box. You gotta be kidding me? Sony has lost there edge. I just cut up their credit card and if buy.com doesn't post this review I think I will cut theirs too!

    the picture/graphic quality is superb and bargain deal to have both game console and blueray DVD player at the same time. it costs less indeed to buy a decent blueray, not to mention PS3 bulit in with the Dolby Truesurround decoding which most 'cheaper' HD DVD players do not have.     Ive done tons of research on what I should get for christmas, and after so much contreversy everywere ive finally chosen to get the ps3.Dont under estimate the PS3, its still under the rader because of microsofts early release of the xbox 360, but it will take the crown once again as new updates are allowing it to catch up to xbox 360 standards. Some graphics for the ps3 games compared to xbox 360 pale in comparison, but dont blame the system, as the nvidia's visuals card on the ps3 is the strongest available to date, even outdoing video cards available for PC's. Soon ps3 graphics will catch up, and even outdo xbox 360 graphics. The blu-ray discs deliver more defintion then that of hd-dvd's, as blu-ray discs have a storage of 50gb(hd-dvd=30gb).ps3=7 processors. xbox=3 processors

    The surprisingly weighty Playstation 3 is a powerhouse console with amazing features and even more amazing gameplay. The PS3 is great at playing my old Playstation classics as well as the new titles. The durability of the console is exactly what we needed to see form Sony, as the PS3 has no trouble running extraordinarily long hours without any issues at all, perfect for hardcore gamers. This system is a good buy for anyone; it has the graphic capacity to impress any fan of videogames, the titles to immerse you in videogame lore, and best of all the simplicity to have you gaming 3 minutes after you open the box. By leaps and bounds the best console for the buck; blu-ray is the next generation. Make the right choice and pick Sony's masterpiece console.

    I marked all 1's so as to make sure you read this: Every buyer should know (but probably doesn't) that the PS3 80GB, 20GB, and 40 GB model's DO NOT offer the same backwards compatability (play your old PS2 games). They instead have emulators, where as the 60GB model has the actual CHIP to read the old games. Don't be fooled by sony's price cut, it had a reason.

    When you compare the Xbox-360 and Playstion 3 side-by-side, the Xbox-360 is the clear winner as far as features go. The Xbox-360 can connect to computers, has Xbox Live, as well as the Xbox Live Guide. Yes, these features are awesome. Theres only one problem. The Xbox-360 hardware breaks every 3 months or so. Its very evident that Microsoft did a mediocre job testing their hardware before it was released to the gaming public. The fail rate of the Playstation 3 is under 1%, while the Xbox-360 is over 25%. The Playstation 3 runs smoothly and has great features that will surpass the Xbox-360 in the long run. "Home" will clearly stop Xbox Live in it's tracks. The Playstation 3 6-axis controller also adds to the excitement (although it feels as if it was not fully tested, it can still add to the excitement of gameplay). The Playstation 3 also comes equipped with a "Blu-Ray" player, which is clearly the future of games and DVD's. The Playstation 3 is a great value when you look at it in the long run. Sony is doing a great job anticipating various updates such as "Home". At this point, we can only hope Sony lives up to their word.
