Beyond power. Beyond limits. Beyond evolution. Beyond anything ever created in the world of gaming, lies the PLAYSTATION3 system. And with it the chance to transcend the concept of what traditional game play is supposed to be…for gamers worldwide to finally PLAY BEYOND.
PROCESS THAT: IT PERFORMS 1.8 TRILLION CALCULATIONS PER SECOND
The PLAYSTATION3 system’s Cell Broadband Engine is the very thing that game developers have always dreamt about. Its unique multi-processing unit design represents a tour de force in parallel processing. The ability to do more of everything at the same time means more enemies, more AI, more explosions, and more realistic game play. Game play
that takes into account ragdoll physics and keyframe animation, enemy AI behaving unpredictably, glass cracking
based on the size of the object that impacted it, and individual flecks of dust in a beam of sunlight to create a more
believable and unique experience. The Cell Broadband Engine has the muscle and horsepower to move beyond artificial
intelligence. This is the power that is the digital soul of the PLAYSTATION3 system.
- 1 Central Processing Unit (CPU) and 8 Synergistic Processing Units (SPU)
- 40 times faster than the chip that runs PlayStation 2
- Capable of running at speeds at 3.2 GHz
- Memory bandwidth: 25.6 GBytes per second
IT DREAMS IN BLU-RAY
Dreams are boundless. Their images are expansive and their colors inspired. Up until now, game developers have
been dreamers cursed to dream with limitations. Forced to compromise their creative content for precious disc space.
Then came the advent of Blu-ray. Just as the DVD offered a technological leap over CDs, the Blu-ray disc is the next
leap forward in the advancement of data storage and high definition entertainment. But not as a simple evolution
of an existing format. Blu-ray is something entirely different, a revolution catapulting the high definition gaming
and movie experience into unknown frontiers. A revolution that finally frees game developers and moviemakers from
the constraints of storage space. And allows them to dream in Blu-ray.
- Five to ten times the storage capacity of traditional DVDs
- 50 GB BD vs. 9 GB DVD
- Pristine picture quality with the capability for ultimate
high definition1
- Recordable formats with unsurpassed storage capacity
to store your digital world (photographs, home videos,
music libraries, and data)
- DVD compatibility so existing DVD collections can be
enjoyed on Blu-ray hardware2
SIXAXIS Wireless Controller: IT SENSES YOUR EVERY MOVE
The power is here. The question is, can you control it? With the PLAYSTATION 3 system’s
Cell Broadband Engine creating experiences that were never before seen as
possible, a controller was needed that would enable your experience to match its
potential. Enter the new SIXAXIS controller. Utilizing sensors designed to read when a player angles, tilts,
thrusts, or pulls, the SIXAXIS controller allows game play to become a natural extension of the player’s body.
And with the heritage of the PlayStation console’s basic controller design still intact, gamers will be able to play
the controls they’ve already grown accustomed to while
harnessing the added intuitive movements
of the SIXAXIS controller.
- Utilizes breakthrough technology and a highly sensitive motion sensing
system so as the user moves the controller the game moves with it
- Features Bluetooth for wireless gameplay; the PLAYSTATION3 system
can support up to seven wireless controllers at one time
- Can be swapped seamlessly from wireless to wired and automatically
charged using the controller’s USB cable
- The shape of the L2,/R2 buttons has been altered, enabling
increased depth in stroke for more subtle control in games
- The tilting angle of the analog joy sticks has been slightly broadened
to enable more delicate and more dynamic manipulation
- The information detection (L2,R2, analog joy stick) has been
increased from 8 bit to 10 bit

If you want to play 2 players on EA Games, the X-Box is better! EA just wants you to play others on-line and not together on one system. They have optional games for 2 players to play on one system with the PS3.
For the price I would think you should play the main games on one system and not on-line for people who don't want to play on-line! Was this review helpful?

I was hesitant to buy another gaming console, considering I have an Xbox 360 Elite. What made me consider and ultimately buy a PS3 was deal at Buy.com, plus the built in BluRay. I was buying a BluRay for another tv - for another $100 or so, the PS3 made sense. Although I've only played the 1 game it came with - I'm using the PS3 for a lot of other things. It easily picks up the other PC's in the house, allowing me to stream and download music, pictures and video's from anywhere in the house. The web browser is pretty amazing as well, despite have to reset preferances for view size each time you open the browser - it's pretty cool. Finally, the Playstation LIFE program, allowing you to donate your PS3 processing power for research is amazing. I'm hoping that additional options, such as web browsing while the unit is "folding" - and a few other upgrades will be added over time. I like having it on while playing music - I would have it on 24/7 with a few other options added. Everything is simple, it works - it's a media hub with the benefits of gaming. Awesome.
