Beyond power. Beyond limits. Beyond evolution. Beyond anything ever created in the world of gaming, lies the PLAYSTATION3 system. And with it the chance to transcend the concept of what traditional game play is supposed to be…for gamers worldwide to finally PLAY BEYOND.
PROCESS THAT: IT PERFORMS 1.8 TRILLION CALCULATIONS PER SECOND
The PLAYSTATION3 system’s Cell Broadband Engine is the very thing that game developers have always dreamt about. Its unique multi-processing unit design represents a tour de force in parallel processing. The ability to do more of everything at the same time means more enemies, more AI, more explosions, and more realistic game play. Game play
that takes into account ragdoll physics and keyframe animation, enemy AI behaving unpredictably, glass cracking
based on the size of the object that impacted it, and individual flecks of dust in a beam of sunlight to create a more
believable and unique experience. The Cell Broadband Engine has the muscle and horsepower to move beyond artificial
intelligence. This is the power that is the digital soul of the PLAYSTATION3 system.
- 1 Central Processing Unit (CPU) and 8 Synergistic Processing Units (SPU)
- 40 times faster than the chip that runs PlayStation 2
- Capable of running at speeds at 3.2 GHz
- Memory bandwidth: 25.6 GBytes per second
IT DREAMS IN BLU-RAY
Dreams are boundless. Their images are expansive and their colors inspired. Up until now, game developers have
been dreamers cursed to dream with limitations. Forced to compromise their creative content for precious disc space.
Then came the advent of Blu-ray. Just as the DVD offered a technological leap over CDs, the Blu-ray disc is the next
leap forward in the advancement of data storage and high definition entertainment. But not as a simple evolution
of an existing format. Blu-ray is something entirely different, a revolution catapulting the high definition gaming
and movie experience into unknown frontiers. A revolution that finally frees game developers and moviemakers from
the constraints of storage space. And allows them to dream in Blu-ray.
- Five to ten times the storage capacity of traditional DVDs
- 50 GB BD vs. 9 GB DVD
- Pristine picture quality with the capability for ultimate
high definition1
- Recordable formats with unsurpassed storage capacity
to store your digital world (photographs, home videos,
music libraries, and data)
- DVD compatibility so existing DVD collections can be
enjoyed on Blu-ray hardware2
SIXAXIS Wireless Controller: IT SENSES YOUR EVERY MOVE
The power is here. The question is, can you control it? With the PLAYSTATION 3 system’s
Cell Broadband Engine creating experiences that were never before seen as
possible, a controller was needed that would enable your experience to match its
potential. Enter the new SIXAXIS controller. Utilizing sensors designed to read when a player angles, tilts,
thrusts, or pulls, the SIXAXIS controller allows game play to become a natural extension of the player’s body.
And with the heritage of the PlayStation console’s basic controller design still intact, gamers will be able to play
the controls they’ve already grown accustomed to while
harnessing the added intuitive movements
of the SIXAXIS controller.
- Utilizes breakthrough technology and a highly sensitive motion sensing
system so as the user moves the controller the game moves with it
- Features Bluetooth for wireless gameplay; the PLAYSTATION3 system
can support up to seven wireless controllers at one time
- Can be swapped seamlessly from wireless to wired and automatically
charged using the controller’s USB cable
- The shape of the L2,/R2 buttons has been altered, enabling
increased depth in stroke for more subtle control in games
- The tilting angle of the analog joy sticks has been slightly broadened
to enable more delicate and more dynamic manipulation
- The information detection (L2,R2, analog joy stick) has been
increased from 8 bit to 10 bit

4.7 of 5 Slow loading times, I blame blu-ray 5/27/2008
from Queens VIllage, NY
My only gripe with the PS3 is the incredibly slow loading times on certain games. I've been told by multiple people that this is the fault of Blu-ray and its' slow read speed. Other than that this thing is awesome, looks great with my new HDTV and the fact that it upscales SD dvd's is a great bonus. Fast shipping, I'll definitely purchase from Buy.com again!

5 of 5 must have 5/24/2008
from Chicago
I haven't owned a console since the early days of the PS2. I was originally going to buy the 360, but after some research, and some common sense, the PS3 was a no brainer. $399 for a next gen console complete with HDMI 1.3, bluetooth 2.0, and oh yeah, a blu-ray player that if it were separate, would be rated among the best. 40gb is more than enough, but the ability to add another HDD upwards of 200gb, a 1 year warranty on a console that odds are, will not fail, free online play, and a system/store that is constantly being upgraded, why was I ever considering the 360?

5 of 5 Great product, fast shipping 5/7/2008
from Silver Spring, MD
The PS3 shipped very quickly even though I used the free budget shipping. I ordered it on Monday morning and received it on Wednesday afternoon. The PS3 is a great system and the 40 gb is an ample amount of space. My wireless internet connected relatively quickly and I had a pretty strong signal even though my system is an entire level away from the router. The bluetooth headset connected immediately. The system does not get hot even after playing it for 2 or 3 hours. It does get warm but not hot. Best if not placed on carpet, rather on hardwood or some other hard surface that does not conduct heat well. Also I was not charged tax which in my case was a $22 savings as opposed to buying if from a physical store. I've had it for 2 weeks and am enjoying it and the free online gameplay. Haven't experienced a bit of lag yet. Great graphics, awesome gameplay for the game I have, which is Rainbow Six Vegas 2.

4.7 of 5 Great product - but should be perfect 4/14/2008
augeydoggy from Princeton, NJ
It is expensive but you get what you pay for. I have a difficult home theater projection system with non-standard equipment that can be tricky to set up, especially where HDMI and HDCP are involved. This is the first time I have had 1080p on that system and it is great. Since the only game I play is gh3, can't say much about that, but works great as a media player getting music and photos from my pc over the wireless network, and I love the way the standard controller can be used for the DVD's, with the controls on the screen - no more fumbling for the flash light looking for little buttons on a remote! Only complaint - what PS3 users call "mosquito effect" and videophiles know as "ringing" - a sort of colored halo on the edges of objects on upscaled DVD's, due to overly aggressive edge enhancement. The latest firmware is supposed to offer a way to fix this, but I haven't found it. Meanwhile I play regular dvd's on my Toshiba HD-A2 which does a fabulous job of upscaling. For the price, the PS3 should do as well.

5 of 5 Seriously, this is enough!!! 4/13/2008
MakulaTolkien from North Bergen, NJ
I've had all the playstations (1, 2 and PSP) but this console looks amazing, the graphics in all games are great. 40 gb are enough (of course, if you are not a sick addicted gamer,) then I love the wireless controller, and the blu-ray is as clear as water. If you like to play in a good console, this is the best right now.
I can't wait for GTA4, MGS4, RE5 and many more... BTW thanks Buy.com for the fast shipping.

4.7 of 5 Best for BluRay 4/7/2008
zimbelpeople from Wichita, KS
I hesitated going with Playstation since I do not game, just wanted Bluray capability. Finally converted over after struggling with a new Samsung BR DVD. Out of the box it failed due to lack of a firmware update. 3 weeks later, still no resolution, returned for a refund, and purchased the PS3. Flawless hookup, plays the latest BR DVD's without issue, loads 3 times as fast, and plays older formats. (Should really have the Bluetooth remote as part of the package).

5 of 5 Great System 4/4/2008
from Clinton, Iowa
The PS3 is the right system for me. It combines good game play, a Hi Def DVD player, and web browser / media player. The on-line game play is free and you can still find many PS3 games at a reasonable price if you shop around.
