5 of 5 Perfect for listening to Lectures with Walkman Thursday, January 14, 2010 Earl from Birmingham, AL
I spend "drive" time and "walking" time listening to lectures on my MP3 player. The wires of wired earbuds cause a minor annoyance. They get tangled in the seatbelt, etc.
I got a Walkman for Christmas and could not pass up a deal for a Bluetooth transmitter for it for 19.99 tigerdirect/compusa. I was sure that I would have to wait for bluetooth earbuds to drop in price, but I was wrong. I got this The Voyager 855 yesterday and it is even better than what I was hoping for.
Not only do I have the major benefit of having wireless earbuds for both ears, but because the Voyager 855 supports the same profiles as the Walkman bluetooth transmitter, the controls on the headset control the Walkman.
Using wired earbuds, if I wanted to approach a salesperson, for example, I would need to take out (at least one) earbud, and since I had a lecture going on the Walkman, I would need to dig it out of my pocket and pause it. With the Voyager 855, the button on the upper side of the headset pauses the track on the Walkman, so that in the same motion of taking the headset out of my ear, the walkman is paused. That may not sound like much, but it is way cool.
I have not noticed any breaks, interference, etc caused by the headset. At one point, yesterday, I thought that I was losing the signal occasionally, but I wasn't. The Walkman's controls are fairly sensitive. Either my massive chest (ha!) or more likely, my heavy jacket was pressing the controls on the Walkman. I suspected this after I had forgotten to put the MP3 player in my pocket. I walked about 30 ft away from the car and started losing the signal. I figured if the signal didn't have any problems until that distance, I wasn' having any sinal problems. There is a lock button on the Walkman. Once I set that, I haven't pressed the controls nor "lost" any signals.
Finally, pairing the Voyager 855 is very easy, especially with the first device. It defaults to "0000" for the passcode, which is good, because the Walkman bluetooth transmitter can only connect with passcode "0000". I was curious about whether how the Voyager would handle being paired to both my phone and the Walkman. I paired it with my Blackberry also. Answering the phone was easy when a call came in while listening to the walkman, but it wasn't that easy to get back to the Walkman when the call was over. It was possible, but I decided that it was easier to pull the thing out of my ear and answer the phone.
I have not listened to music on the headset, so I can't say whether it would be acceptable for that, but for voice recordings (and what little experimentation I did with the phone), the sound quality was fine.
I saw another review that said that the charger was mini USB. My understanding is that mini USB is a little trapezoid plug except that the sides each have a little curve in each of them. That is the kind of connection that my Blackberry and many MP3 players have. The Voyager 855 one does not have this type of connection. The connection is a trapezoid that is slightly smaller, with no curves on the sides, if that helps identify the type of connection.
I would recommend this headset. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Overall Best Headset for Music and Calls Friday, December 04, 2009 A Customer from Columbus OH
This headset paired easily with a Samsung Instinct. It is great! The device itself has been flawless, save for the ear hook that broke on the main piece. I get on average 8 hours of "one ear" music per charge. This is the best deal when you like to listen to music at work, but have to have one ear open for other calls, alerts, etc... The sound quality is nice. Definitely not audiophile, but good enough. Having boths ear pieces in will drown out the background noise. I would buy this set again. (Can't beat the price either)... 1 of 1 customers found this review helpful. 5 of 5 Fantastic for the price Monday, August 31, 2009 A Customer from Dallas
Pros: Great audio quality, for both caller and listener. Great volume (much louder than Jabras and Jawbone II I've used previously). A2DP compatible, (unlike Jawbone), and doesn't sound half bad. Impressive battery life. Optional stereo earbud. Charges via micro usb, as are a lot of other electronics. CAN be used while charging! Cons: A2DP stutters during music playback every now and then (quick millisecond break in sound every minute or so). Little noise cancellation (not great for driving with the windows open, but fine with them closed). Does not come with an in-ear option (though you can frankenstein one yourself... I'll explain later). Cannot switch between calls using the headset (must use phone).
Came brand new in box, sealed. I've used the Jabra BT8040, BT530, Jawbone II, and this Voyager 855. This headset has, by far, the best audio on the receiving end. It's the only headset I have NOT had to set at maximum volume to hear calls comfortably and definitely has the richest, least tinny sound of the headsets I've just mentioned. The noise cancellation is not as good as the Jawbone, but for the volume, call quality, and A2DP for music, (not to mention price), I consider it a vastly greater value. Plus, noise cancellation or not, everyone I've asked says he or she can hear me best using this headset than any of my others, including the Jawbone II. I had to give it 4/5 for performance due to the very quick but common stutter when using A2DP to listen to music, and for the lack of better noise cancellation, but overall, I have no plans to go back to even the Jawbone given how much richer and louder the audio is on this voyager. As for the ear piece, I wear glasses and prefer to have only in-ear buds without an earhook. While you can't do that with the earbuds that come with the headset, if you take a Jabra bt8040 (or bt530) eargel available online, (the one with the little loop), jam it all the way down onto the voyager until the speaker stem sticks through it, and then add the ear piece that comes with the voyager on top, it fits extremely comfortably and securely without the earhook! Overall, I'm incredibly impressed! Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 So awesome I finally wrote a review!!! Thursday, August 27, 2009 wntrbrln from Newton, WI
When "researching" a purchase I check the reviews to get a sense of an items pros & cons. However, I am always suspicious of the 5 star reviews, suspecting they are "planted". I stumbled upon this headset by accident, and it has worked out much better than I what I originally looked for. I get incredible sound quality, even when I use just the headset while driving or in a noisy area at work. I got a perfect fit with the 4 different earbud types (I actually need different sizes :) I have worn them close to 5 hrs straight and about 7 and 1/2 hrs before I needed to charge the head set with the car charger (affordably bought separately on ebay). 2 co-workers bought this same model after seeing mine. The one negative I can come up with is the silver paint on the big button is chipping from my fingernails. You won't be disappointed by this headset! Was this review helpful?

5 of 5 Great Headset Monday, July 06, 2009 Scott M from Joliet, IL
I just got two of these, one to use with my AT&T tilt, it works fantastic - all features work as advertised (unlike the iPhone...lol) and the sound quality and volume are great. The second one is on my other half's LG Vu, and also works great with it. It also came with 4 different size ear buds, so it should fit any ear.
I also tried with my tablet PC, but the PC doesn't support the high data rate, so playing stereo music didn't work well (but a new bluetooth adapter would fix that, its not a problem with the headset).

I got this headset last week and have been very happy with the product. I wanted the headset for my iPhone so that I can use it while I run. With the 3.0 update, the Stereo headset worked great.
Pros:
1) Fits in the ear perfect - You get 3 sizes of ear plugs so it doesn't fall of while you run.
2) Pretty light weight and doesn't hurt the ear.
3) Battery life has been very good.
Cons:
1) Only complaint is that you cannot control the volume from the iPhone. You need to use the headset controls. That said, the Forward/Reverse functions don't work in the headset. You have to use the controls on the iPhone for skipping tracks. Again this problem is only with the iPhone and the Track Navigation works fine with my XP laptop's Media Player and MY Fiancee's Moto Razr. Was this review helpful?

1 of 1 customers found this review helpful. 5 of 5 So far it's the Best BT Headset Sunday, May 10, 2009 A Customer from Sunnyvale, CA
I have tried many BT stereo headsets, and this 855 is the best I have used so far. In hands free mode, it does a very good job at noise reduction. It eliminate most noises outside of vocal frequency. That said, it will pick up this frequency clearly. The pro is that voice comes through clearly, and the con is vocal background will also come through clearly. Sound during travel in car or walking outside was well suppressed during conversation. In stereo mode, I was not expecting for hifi resolution. Therefore, this 855 performs to my satisfaction. The in-ear piece works well in isolating environmental noise, but it doesn't stay put... As your ear get warm, it will tend to loosen and the headset will fall off. I occasionally pushed it in to keep it seated. I find no issue with pairing with my Fuze pda. I tend to accidentally end the call when I first put the headset to my ear, or to push on the headset to keep it in my ear... The activation button is right in the way to secure the headset to the ear... Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 Great for price. Wednesday, May 06, 2009 John from Fayetteville, AR
I'm pleased with this unit...Not dancing around about it, but I'm pleased. The noise canceling is less than what I would expect from Plantronics, but the unit is full featured, comfortable, sturdy, sleek, and performs as expected otherwise. Keep in mind when buying this, it is the 'shorter distance' Bluetooth. Leaving my phone charging & walking around the house w/ headset doesn't work well & will quickly become staticy or drop signal if I get more than about 30' away. Using the extended boom improves voice quality immensely. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 FITS MY EARS THE BEST! Tuesday, May 05, 2009 T-bird 57 from Phoenix, AZ
I have purchased several bluetooth headsets, only to return them immediately because they do not stay in my ear - consequently, I could never hear my callers well, and was constantly fiddling with the device - until now! I love this headset. It fits perfectly with a tight seal in my ear. It's versatile. I can listen to my music since my phone is also an MP3 player and take calls if I need to. The accessories are plentiful and useful. A bluetooth device choice is very personal for comfort and application, and this one suits perfectly for my needs! Bravo. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 wow Saturday, May 02, 2009 A Customer from nj
best unit i've had yet. comfortable and easy. i use it with my samsung omnia. easy to pair and has good reception according to my friends. i've always liked plantronics devices. used to use the 64x seriers. its nice to have that extra earplug for surround sound! Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Great headset! Friday, May 01, 2009 Karl Konnerth from Palo Alto, CA
I found the headset comfortable and easy to use. Audio quality for phone and music playback was fine, and I haven't experienced drop-outs. It was easy to pair with my BlackBerry Bold, although it doesn't auto reconnect when it comes in range as easily as my Voyager headset did. But a quick press of the button makes it connect.
I've had mixed reports on the quality of my voice. Some say it is great, another reported it was distorted (which I believe is due to low AT&T signal strength inside my house).
All-in-all, I think it was a great deal for a stereo Bluetooth headset! Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Not perfect but gets the job done Wednesday, April 29, 2009 A Customer from Caldwell, NJ
As other reviewers have pointed out, the 855 is not perfect. I have never had an electronic gadget that is. Cons include less than audiophile sound and frequent interruptions or breakups in the sound. But I didn't buy this unit expecting audiophile sound. Rather, convenience was my goal and that is the basis for my 5 rating. The 855 sounds good enough for non-serious listening, actually better than I expected. Volume level is also fine. Loud enough even on the train. Guess it depends on your hearing acuity. The sound interruptions are bothersome but are offset by the lack of an annoying wire running to my phone. I always get the wires from normal headsets caught in something so the 855 solves that dilemma quite nicely. With the great buy.com price, and if Plantronics could only eliminate the sound cut-outs, I would have no complaints. I do find the phone talk/hear quality acceptable but don't like the isolation of the earbud when used only for that purpose. Not perfect but still a must have. Was this review helpful?

2 of 2 customers found this review helpful. 4 of 5 Great product, good audio quality Sunday, April 19, 2009 A Customer from Brooklyn, NY
None of the three different earbud sizes can keep the device securely in my ear without using the around-the-ear clip as well.
The audio quality is clear when listening to music.
The main button is in the center near the earbud. Trying to press it, especially when I have to hold it for a couple of seconds (to use some of the functions such as voice command) gives me the feeling that I am dangerously shoving it deep into my ear canal.
When using both earpieces for stereo, the rear of the clip for the main earpiece becomes the wire leading the the second earpiece. The second earpiece does not have a clip that goes around the ear, so you may find that it falls out of your ear too easily. If you disconnect the second earpiece, you will have no clip to hold the main earpiece securely onto your ear until you snap on one of the standalone ear clips (of which two sizes are included).
Whether using one earpiece or both, the ear clip can be inserted two ways, allowing the main earpiece to be worn in either ear.
When playing stereo audio, the right channel plays through the main earpiece and the left channel plays through the second earpiece. If you disconnect the second earpiece, you still only hear the right audio channel. With music tracks where the right and left channels differ at some point, you may actually notice part of your music (the left part) missing. A better design would have been to detect the disconnection of the second earpiece and then combine both right and left channels to play through the main earpiece, but it unfortunately does not do so. 5 of 5 Very comfortable Friday, April 17, 2009 Katherine from Bothell, WA
This is my 5th Bluetooth devise in the past year and a half. Not because they don't work but because I couldn't find one that would be comfortable and stay in my ear with out feeling like I had crammed a brick into the canal. The 3 different size soft flexible ear buds make a custom fit real easy. It's real easy to change what ear I want to have the bluetooth set up on as well. This is a nice feature when on a long road trip. I had no problem getting it to link up with my Nokia phone and I've been told the sound clearity is great from those whom I'm speaking with over the phone. I wish I had found this earlier. It could have save me a lot of time, money and ear pain. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Works perfect Thursday, April 16, 2009 A Customer from Scottsdale, AZ
My wife goes through headsets like nothing I've seen. She's very picky about "hearing." Found this unit to be perfect for her. She loves the fact she can hear extremely well and the mic is very sensitive and picks up everything. Works well when she uses it driving in the jeep. Thinking about buying another for myself. 5 of 5 Excellent Device Friday, April 03, 2009 Kenn from Queens, NY
This is my fourth Bluetooth headset over the past eight years and I am pleasantly surprised with this latest innovation. I upgraded my cell phone in December and it now has many Entertainment features including storage for a music play list and streaming video. It's nice to have a headset that allows me to enjoy the fun part of my LG Voyager, but also functions as a very good headset for communicating.
The only drawback I have noticed so far is, when I use the "voice dialing" feature of the phone through the headset. (I never had an issue with my previous headset or if I choose to use the voice call option with out a headset).
Other than that, I love the look, the sound quality and functionality. Thank you Plantronics and Buy.com. Was this review helpful?

I've had my Voyager 855's for about three weeks now. It comes with 4 sets of ear adaptors and the sound is great. If I could give it a score greater than 5 I would. They are really nice. The stereo feature is what I use and like most. Works extremely well on the ATT Tilt Was this review helpful?

This is the best bluetooth unit I have owned. It connects quickly to the PC (for skype and conference calls/web meetings) and also to my cell phones (LG Dare and Blackberry Curve). People tell me that I sound clearer and better than when on a land line. The best part is that I can use my LG Dare as an mp3 player and this item allows stereo operation with it's 2nd earbud. 4 of 5 Great Headset! Minor fit issue. Monday, December 29, 2008 Tony G from Tulsa, OK
This is a great headset for the price. Got it for <$75, incl. shipping! Lost my Plantronics 925, which I really liked, but had to use wired earbuds and an armband while running to music on my AT&T Tilt 8925(HTC TyTnII). The wires inevitably pulled out the earbuds. Per other reviews, the 855's stereo isn't Sennhesier/Bose quality, but I can't answer and make calls and auto-return to music with their headphones/earbuds. I expected the worst, and was pleasantly surprised with the sound quality. My other earbuds were cheap, so I think the 855 sound is better!
I had complaints from others when I called using Jabra and Sony headsets. With the 855 (and 925), sound quality to the hearer is equivalent to or better than handset quality.
My two suggestions for next generation 855 are: 1) Add dual-pairing capability. I have a Blackberry Curve and Tilt. The 925 paired with both simultaneously, so I could answer or place a call on either. The 855 can pair with only one at a time. 2) Use the 925 plastic ear insert design for the 855. It stayed in my ear much better. I have to push the 855 into my ear every few minutes, or wear the ear hook. Not a problem when using for stereo, as the earhook is required, but not desirable for general use.
Overall, I'm very satisfied with the 855, and can easily work around these minor issues.

5 of 5 Awesome!!! Tuesday, September 23, 2008 A Customer from Jacksonville, Florida
These are by far THE best stereo bluetooth headphones I've ever owned. However, no matter what wireless hardware you have, you may encounter some very minor static interference depending on your location. This is not the products fault and happens very rarely. I love the fact that I can link up to my laptop and listen to music via bluetooth and when I have a phone call on my cell phone, the music stops and switches to answer my phone. It works the same even when I'm on the go listening to music via bluetooth ON my cell phone as well. The music sounds clear, crisp and rich of bass and I am heard loud and clear on the other side of the line with no annoying background room noise. Once you have these head sets paired up to either your laptop or cell phone, connectivity happens with just turning the device on and you're done! Was this review helpful?
2 of 5 Somewhat OK for phone calls, pathetic for music Tuesday, September 23, 2008 A Customer from Stamford, CT
The sound quality of this headset is ridiculously bad. Callers complain about not being able to hear me well, and I can't hear them too well either. As for music/stereo, the response range of the speakers is truly pathetic, with almost no low frequencies and severe distortion at high volume. Surprisingly bad from a supposed segment leader like Plantronics. I am returning mine. Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 Pretty cool bluetooth for the price. Wednesday, August 20, 2008 A Customer from New Orleans, LA
I've had my Voyager 855 for about 2 weeks and it's been working pretty well. Setup is really easy with my Blackjack 2. Mine came with 3 sizes of silicon noise isolating ear pieces and a foam earpiece. The stereo option is cool but my music doesn't always stream that well unless my phone is on the same side of my body as the receiver. Overall its a good deal even as just a bluetooth headset for phone calls. Was this review helpful?

5 of 5 Poor quality control; extremely unreliable. Thursday, August 07, 2008 A Customer from Tacoma WA
I have had three of these headsets now and am returning the third once again. While Plantronics has been very good about it all I am extremely disappointed in the lack of reliablity. The first unit had sound quality issues, the second eventually failed to turn on, the third had connectivity issues and eventually failed to turn on. Stay away from this headset. 5 of 5 Best blue tooth I've used Wednesday, August 06, 2008 A Customer from Austin, TX
This is a great headset. Setup with my LGVu cell phone and my Dell computer was very quick and easy. I love that it has two ear pieces. It allows me to block out whatever is happening around me and listen to music or have a conversation on the phone. Everyone I talked to has said they cannot tell I'm using a bluetooth headset. The second ear piece can be removed and then it's hard to tell I'm even wearing anything (woman with long hair) so I can listen to music while I run errands and no one really notices. 1 of 5 Stereo doesn't sink into my 755P Treo. Friday, August 01, 2008 A Customer from Phoenix, AZ. 85050
I'd purchased the Voyager 855 to listen to music while I'm working out and hiking but it doesn't work with my Treo 755p Phone. I called Plantronics just to find out that I'm lucky to even to get it to work with my phone calls. It would've been better to know this info before I bought it. Maybe Plantronics should let their consumers know what doesn't work with each product before they buy their products. Now I feel that this was a wasted of money. Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 Could be better Tuesday, July 29, 2008 Mr. B from Boyne City, MI
Headset prefers to be paired with one system only. When hooking to more than one (ie. laptop and cell phone) the last one paired seems to take control of the connection when reconnecting. Repairing is necessary for the second connection. The other negative is that when using the stereo setup with both earphones and an XP laptop playing music, there are brief but evident dropouts in audio every once in a while, even at 5 feet away. The good is that it is extremely small and lightweight and works terrific with my Blackberry Curve. Battery life is very good also. Was this review helpful?
2 of 5 Good MP3 headset; poor phone headset Friday, July 18, 2008 Chris from Cleveland, Ohio
I have an LG cu500v. Unfortunately it's too late to return this - nice looking, very light, easy to use buttons. The sounds quality is very good when used as an MP3 headset. But when I use it as a phone headset, everyone complains I sound like I'm on a walkie-talkie - and it does not handle wind noise very well AT ALL. The battery standby time is very poor as well. Very poor range - it gets static and drops sound if my phone is more than a few inches from the unit - if I walk a few feet away from the phone, it will just cut out entirely. 5 of 5 Very good headset but a little incompatible with S Monday, July 07, 2008 A Customer from Mission viejo, ca
I am pretty happy with this bluetooth, very good and sturdy design, very easy to use everything: phone call, voice dialing, music player is in matter of a touch. High quality sound, seals out noises very well and fully charges like in 2 hours or so, always use it to listen to my phone player, love it!
The only things I can complain about are that my Sony Ericsson W850i phone sometimes acts weird with this device, very similar to the previous person reviewing "Incompatible with Verizon Voyager/lousy sound qual" it would randomly disconnected, and voice dial function sometimes fails and I have to turn off and turn on my phone again in order to fix this.
OVERALL: >Very good and quality device!
>Recommend for people looking for wireless music headphones
>MAKE SURE YOUR PHONE IS COMPATIBLE
> btw: watch out not to use it at rain Was this review helpful?

I am very unhappy with the performance of this headset or any Plantronics headset with my Verizon Voyager. It disconnects constantly and the voice recognition does not work well. 5 of 5 Voyager 855 Treo 700WX Wednesday, May 14, 2008 Mark Wu from Texas
Best one for TREO 700WX. I use both hand free and listen to music. Super clear while listen to music.
I use the 100M bluetooth card as well. The best feature is: It can quick pair with device in less than a second by just one touch of call button. This almost fix the known bug of 700WX which keep disconnect after couple of connection.
BT 8010 and 8040 you have to turn off and turn on again. This device
just one touch. The slide down answer call is pretty cool to make up
the call button too small issue.
I was looking for a BT to fixing the 700WX disconnect issue and hanging issue. I find 855 is the solution.
Only two issue:
1) Call button is too small while driving.
2) Bluetooth connection is not as good as Jabra 8400
for 100 meter distance. Was this review helpful?

5 of 5 Great Product, Great Service ! Sunday, April 20, 2008 ddavis282 from Raleigh, NC
I purchased my Plantronics 855 about a month ago and immediately had great service from Buy.com. It was here in about a week's time. The device works great and have yet to experience any problems with it. I use the samller Earpiece setting and this sizing works for me with no problems ! Plan to use Buy.com for my next major purchase based upon my experiences with them to-date. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Satisfied overall performance Monday, April 14, 2008 A Customer from NEW YORK
Quick delivery. cool outlooking and easy to use. Connection to cell phone is quick and visible. The acoustic effect is satisfied as long as you are not a acoustic enthusiast. Was this review helpful?

After trying a few of my friends stereo headsets to use with my Moto-Q I bought the Plantronics 855 I could not be more pleased with it's performance both in ease of use & sound quality. I bought it at Buy.com & received it in 2 days. I highly recommend both the merchant & the plantronics 855 . Was this review helpful?

5 of 5 Works with my Centro! Wednesday, March 12, 2008 Ray from Farmington, CT
I recently got a Palm Centro (for Sprint) and was looking for a Bluetooth headset that could be used for listening to my mp3s using RealPlayer mobile and for taking calls. The wraparound models looked terrible and many of the other options were ridiculously overpriced.
I found the Plantronics 855 on Buy.com at half the price I'd seen in some other stores. I bought it and it works great! The only catch, if you plan to use the 855 with your Centro, is that you MUST download Audio Gateway through Softick.com.
I use the mono Bluetooth for calls and some people have minor issues with hearing me, but most have no problem. I use the stereo attachment for music and the clarity is excellent, though I suppose the bass could be improved. Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 Great stereo headset Thursday, March 06, 2008 Kudzai from Hackensack,NJ
For a start it does everything it says it does. I have used it with my PS3, my laptop, and my phone, and it works well with all products. The earpiece could be a little louder but given that the earpiece fits so snug and blocks out a lot of external noise, that's not an issue. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Nice Multifunction Headset! Thursday, February 21, 2008 Buzz from Hurst Texas
This headset is excellent in the fact that it can be used with just a phone as a in the ear headset and then when you want to listen to music you can add the other ear piece and you have a stereo headset.
This is the only product that I know that works like this.
Great product! Was this review helpful?

I'll start with my criticisms:
- It comes with three different sized ear cushions; I wish the smallest size was just a little smaller.
- The curved piece that goes behind the ear was as big as my ear; I carefully warmed the plastic curve over a flame and bent it sharper for a tighter fit. Though this probably voids the warranty, it fits a lot better.
- The cable that connects the two ear pieces can be heard sliding as you move your head from side to side.
As you'll notice, I rated it quite high despite the criticisms because this is the best stereo bluetooth that I have found. The sound is loud and the quality is excellent for buds. The battery life has been good and I am happy. I highly recommend them and this is the best price that I found. Was this review helpful? Click here to see all 58 reviews
