5 of 5 Great in ear BT headset Friday, September 28, 2007 Hector War from Mission, Texas
The headset is very light and easy to use. It worked well with the MotoSLVR L2 phone and OK with the MotoKRZR K1 phone. I believe that BT is directional and the phone needs to be within a specific envelope of use. Voice is very clear with the MotoSLVR L2 and is sometime fuzzy with the MotoKRZR K1. I primarily use it in the car. Wind noise is a problem if planning to use it outside. Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 I like it Monday, August 13, 2007 Jonathan from SLC, UT
This is my first bluetooth headset.
I paired the headset with my iPhone and use it primarily in my car (2007 Honda Civic). People complain of background noise when I have the A/C blowing on me or when I'm driving with the windows down. Other than that I think it works great. I can hear clearly. I love how light it is. I don't have to use the over the ear attachment because it fits securely in my ear (comes with multiple ear size pieces). I haven't used it for more than a 1/2 hr at a time but no discomfort after using it. I love the car charger and auto-answer when I pull the headset out of the charger. If a call comes in while it's in my ear it also beeps in my ear.
I would recommend this headset. Was this review helpful?

I've owned several generations of Plantronics BT headsets including the Discovery 640 and 645. This is by far the best of the Discovery series, and my everyday headset as a result. Good clarity, volume, excellent carrying/charging pen that can be tucked into a pocket like a regular pen, small size and very comfortable in ear, no need for earloop (though it is an option). This one is much less sensitive to wind noise than past generations, but is not a heavy duty active noise cancelling headset that you can use with windows down in the car. I can even use my old 64x accessories with the 665, and do keep the mini-USB charging adapter from my 645 on the carrying pen so I can charge phone and headset with one charger.
The 665 fixes all the key problems with past Discovery headsets: longer battery life, never falls out of the carrying/charging pen, the carrying pen now has a rubber tip on the shirt clip that means it never falls out of my pocket, and the ear jells stay connected to the headset better. Only issues I have are 1) the 665 sometimes looses connection briefly to my Motorola Q, but a double press of the main button generally brings it back, and 2) of course, heavy winds are too much noise for it to handle.
I've tried a number of other headsets over the years seeking better wind noise cancellation like like those from Gennum or The Boom (I still keep a wired second gen The BOOM headset around for this purpose), and will be trying nXZEN's nx6000 next. In the mean time, the 665 is my top choice and I use it daily. Was this review helpful?

I have been using Plantronics 6xx for a while ... 640, 2x645, and just recently upgraded to 665. Considered the Jawbone, but it was just too bulky even though performance was better. For me small form factor and ease of use was priority.
As you can imagine, I have all the legacy stuff, which makes it much easier than starting from scratch. so the omissions of the necessary items do not bother me.
Car charger though a good idea, is pretty much useless for me.
Add of the USB charger was definitely needed ... what I use most on travel.
Missing is the battery charger ... the other necessity.
Missing also is the Wall charger ... necessary at home.
Relative comparison to past products.
Bluetooth link very fast... much improved.
Pickup out of cradle is near instantaneous ... much improved.
Audio quality on far end is better than previous, not total noise canceling like jawbone, but reasonably good.
Elimination of vibrate on ring is not good, but my phone vibrates, so not too bad, but wish it were still there.
I have a BB 8100 cell phone on T-Mobile.
Hope this helps. Was this review helpful?
3 of 5 Maybe I'm still learning, but... Monday, May 14, 2007 A Customer from New Orleans, LA
This is the 1st bluetooth headset I've ever used, and it is a different experience. Even though I'm tech saavy, I feel like a caveman approaching the monolith from 2001! The documentation was a little sparse, in my opinion. Maybe I'm still learning how to use it properly, but I'm experiencing some quirks:
The headset paired to my Motorola Q just fine. But it seems to have a mind of it's own as far as when it's going to pick up the audio and when it's not. If it's powered up and I start to dial on the phone, I hear the tones through the headset. Then, when I press send on the phone, the audio is transferred back to the phone for the first 10-15 seconds of the call. Then, the headset picks up the audio again all by itself. Shouldn't I be able to hear the entire thing through the headset without the interruption? If I have to hold the phone up to my ear for a few seconds, doesn't that defeat the purpose?
Sound quality seems... ok. It gets the job done, but it's not going to win any awards. From the reading I did on BT headsets before I bought this one, it seemed obvious that sound quality just isn't the best no matter which one you get. Any background noise or wind is very noticeable.
The unit is very lightweight. The different sized silicon earbuds were a nice touch. I was glad to select the one that fit the best.
On the first full charge, the battery seemed to run out much quicker than I expected, but since then battery life seems ok. Again, maybe I'm still learning...
