| | Professional Reviews | Entertainment Weekly "[T]he often gasp-inducing footage takes on a startling vividness and depth." -- Grade: A 04/27/2007 127Ultimate DVD 5 stars out of 5 -- "PLANET EARTH is a sprawling look at our world and its wildlife, sumptuously captured by the most technologically advanced cameras." 08/01/2007 p.88 DVD Verdict 10 of 10 Simply put, Planet Earth is the new gold standard in nature documentaries. Produced by Alastair Fothergill and the BBC's Natural History Unit as a follow-up to their universally lauded oceanographic series, The Blue Planet, this 11-part examination of the majestic beauty of Earth's remotest landscapes and rarest species is guaranteed to take your breath away. The show offers a whirlwind tour of the planet, sweeping viewers in grand aerial shots from artic tundra to craggy mountains to surging deserts to rainforests and oceans teeming with life. Along the way we get a brand new glimpse of the life-and-death struggle unfolding daily in the wilds of our globe...Like all nature series, each episode of Planet Earth draws its dramatic intensity from the relentless struggle between life and death--and the show is, indeed, dramatically intense. Placid shots of achingly beautiful flora, fauna, and sprawling landscapes are juxtaposed against the never-ending contest between predator and prey. Planet Earth is absolutely riveting, but not for the feint of heart...It is the astounding breadth, scope, and depth of Planet Earth that makes it revolutionary. - Dan Mancini

5 of 5 Invest a weekend Monday, May 12, 2008 Claude from Melbourne, KY
Just about the most amazing thing I've ever watched on any media; television or theater included. The cinematography has to been seen to be believed, and if you own a HD player (HD-DVD or Blu-Ray), consider this a must own. Astounding work... Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 A must-have for any HDTV owner Friday, June 22, 2007 R, Baze from Lewisville, TX
Planet Earth sets the benchmark in cinematography and then raises the bar as a nature documentary. You will be mesmerized by the beauty of our planet and take on a new respect for what it holds. Planet Earth can be enjoyed by any age and should be labeled as required viewing. To really take in all of the detail, you will have to watch each episode more than once. Yes, it does cost a little more but this is an investment. One word of caution; do not loan it to anyoneyoull never get it back! Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Our Planet as you have never seen it before. Wednesday, May 30, 2007 John from New York
It is not fiction or CGI; it is for real! Experience nature in spectacular HD. You will be amazed to see wildlife in action and breath taking scenic vistas, closeup and personal. The cinematography is jaw dropping! If you have seen the series on TV or the previews and want more, you will be thrilled.
Note that David Attenborough narrates this BBC version and not Sigourney Weaver, and some special features on the DVD are not on the HD version.
Additionally, some scenes of wild animals hunting may not be suitable for young children. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 A powerful argument for hi-def discs Tuesday, May 01, 2007 A Viewer from Maple Grove, Minnesota
Planet earth on HD DVD is a phenomenal experience. If you are not impressed by the image quality of this set it means one of two things: your TV is busted, or you actually live in all these locations and prefer to look out the window. The transfer is superb and the sound is excellent. Works fantastic on the Xbox 360 HD DVD drive, just make sure you have the latest firmware. Sign into xbox live first, then put in the disc. If you need an update, it will prompt on its own. Highly recommended! Was this review helpful?
