| | | Once upon a time a movie company shot an Academy Award-winning film in a small Texas town...for the people involved, nothing was ever the same. Features: DVD From George Hickenlooper (Hearts Of Darkness: A Filmmaker's Apocalypse about the making of Apocalypse Now) comes this award-winning documentary about the making of another '70s classic The Last Picture Show--director Peter Bogdanovich's masterpiece--a film that ultimately turned the lives of those involved upside down. Picture This follows Bogdanovich to Texas where he candidly reflects on the demise of his marriage, his affair with actress Cybill Shepherd, the murder of his girlfriend Dorothy Stratten, his collaboration with Pulitzer Prize-winning novelist Larry McMurtry, the making of the disastrous sequel Texasville, the bitter controversy surrounding the making of both films in McMurtry's hometown, and the personal traumas suffered by the cast: crises which bore an uncanny resemblance to the characters they portrayed. Picture This both humorously and provocatively deconstructs the layers of fiction and reality that went into the turbulent making of Bogdanovich's triumphant work acclaimed as "the greatest film since Citizen Kane." "...as pensive, sad and ironic as the classic Last Picture Show." USA Today "Sharp, supple, hip..." San Diego Union "A remarkably skillful portrait..." Variety
 Editor's Note
Peter Bogdanovich created an American film classic with his black and white drama THE LAST PICTURE SHOW. A quarter of a century later, Bogdanovich assembled many in the original cast including Jeff Bridges, Randy Quaid, Cybill Shepherd, and the Bottoms brothers to create a sequel based on a follow-up novel TEXASVILLE by original author Larry McMurtry. The shooting was fraught with problems and drama behind the scenes and the film was a unqualified bomb upon its release. This documentary looks at both the original and the sequel, explaining the trying circumstances over both shoots and how TEXASVILLE became such a failure.
