1 of 5 Backlight of display does not last very long Friday, January 04, 2008 Dennis from Colorado Springs
The primary purpose of the viewer is to show pictures on the LCD screen. After receiving the product, it worked for about a month before the backlight on the LCD stopped working. With a lot of light reflecting on the front, or by plugging the video out into another monitor, I could see that the unit was still working - just that the display was kaput.
I sent it back three or four times over the year and a half I've owned it, paying $5 or so for shipping each time. The last time it lasted five or six months, but I can't afford to keep sending it back, and now the one year warranty has expired. Next time, I'll probably buy locally and get the product replacement plan if it's cost effective. But this one is a case of "planned obsolescence" or simply poor design for continued performance. I am very happy with my purchase. This does exactly what it says it does. The pictures are sharp and clear. Perfect to have in your office. Was this review helpful?

Just sent it back for the THIRD TIME!!!
I bought one of these in June 2006. It worked pretty well for the first couple of months, then the backlight stopped working. Using a bright light in front, you could tell that it was still displaying the picture show, and you could view the photos via TV with the provided cable. BUT, the primary purpose is to have the unit display the pics so you can see them.
Two weeks after receiving the replacement unit, it started blinking out for a few seconds every few minutes. This was minimally acceptable for a while, but finally it also (the backlight) died completely.
So, I just sent it back for the third time. From my short discussion with Photoco, they have not improved the design, so I suspect that I will experience the same problem with the next unit.
Nothing in the instructions suggest that it is not intended for 100% duty cycle, and if that were the case, I would have returned it immediately. I can only recommend to NOT buy this item. Was this review helpful?
