4 of 5 Big antenna, but not better than my little antenna Tuesday, January 06, 2009 Kev from Minneapolis MN
Upon unwrapping, the antenna had a rattle noise. I didnt want to spend the money to return and decided to fix it. The wire coils are only glued in for support which was easily knocked loose. This may not affect function, but it sound broken. About 30 min to repair.
I live approx 15 miles from the antennas (digital broadcast) in the city of Minneapolis. So far I have only tried to place the antenna indoors, but sitting in a window on the 3rd floor facing the antennas. Signal strength (using TVs signal meter) appears to be no better than my small, unpowered Zenith directional antenna. My next step is to place the Philips outside, but it needs to be plugged in and therefore you need a power outlet. I cannot say that I am overly impressed, but the recommendation is for external mounting. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Decent antenna Wednesday, November 12, 2008 A Customer from Sacramento, CA
I have owned 3 antennas, and this one seems to be the easiest to use. The others were an AntennasDirect DB2 and an RCA rabbit ear/UHF ring type. The MANT950 is a bit easier to conceal than the others, just mount it on the wall or to the tv stand post. It is a bit larger than I expected though. The RCA needed to be turned on and off but the philips doesn't. Reception is a bit better than the DB2, which is not amplified. I have it connected through a Channelmaster 2000 converter box. 4 of 5 works great Saturday, May 17, 2008 A Customer from Wilton,CT
I live in the woods and about 50 miles from NYC. This antenna can receive broadcast indoor from nearby broadcasts only - from Long Island and New Haven. I mounted the antenna on my roof and was able to receive about 33 channels, with occasional signal lost. The only issue is pointing the antenna to an optimal direction to receive the broadcasts in both southwest and south direction (my favorite channel is from Long Island but pointing to the south makes other NYC area channel weak). Overall, this antenna works satisfactory with a clean look. Was this review helpful?
