| | | The best HDMI mate for any TV
Be impressed with this Philips DVD player with HDMI digital video and audio connection. Step into another home entertainment arena as you immerse yourself with High Definition video (720p / 1080i/1080p).
192kHz/24 bit audio DAC
192KHz sampling enables you to have an accurate representation of the original sound curves. Together with a 24-bit resolution, more information is captured from the original analogue sound wave form, giving a much richer audio reproduction.
High definition JPEG playback
With High Resolution JPEG playback, you can show up to 2 Megapixel resolution on your Flat TV (FTV). Now you can view your digital pictures in their true resolution, without loss of quality or details.
Progressive Scan
Progressive Scan doubles the vertical resolution of the image resulting in a noticeably sharper picture. Instead of sending a field comprising the odd lines to the screen first, followed by the field with the even lines, both fields are written at one time. A full image is created instantaneously, using the maximum resolution. At such a speed, your eye perceives a sharper picture with no line structure.
True high-def 1080p HDMI
HDMI stands for High Definition Multimedia Interface and intelligently communicates the highest output resolution from the source device. It is a direct digital connection that can carry uncompressed digital HD video as well as digital multichannel audio - eliminating the conversion to analog signals so you get perfect picture and sound quality, completely free from noise. In addition, with HDMI video upconversion, you can increase the resolution of SD (Standard Definition) video signals that DVDs use to HD (High Definition) so you'll see more details and sharper, more true-to-life pictures.
DivX Ultra Certified
DivX Ultra combines DivX playback with great features like integrated subtitles, multiple audio languages, multiple tracks and menus into one convenient file format.
Multi-media formats
Multi-format playability allows you to play most file formats for maximum listening and viewing pleasure, including MP3, WMA, JPEG and the popular DivX digital media format. DivX playback enables you to play and share compressed high quality DivX video content beyond your computer.

4 of 5 Great DVD Player but bad remote Saturday, March 07, 2009 A Customer from Rockville, MD
I have had no problems with the DVD player itself so far except that there are very few buttons on the front panel. Apart from Play button I would appreciate having rewind and forward, next and previous chapters etc. The remote broke after a couple of weeks and I had to buy a new remote. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Good DVD player for the money. Tuesday, August 19, 2008 David from Londonderry, NH
I have used this DVD player for a few weeks and so far it has performed well. For the money (under $70.00) it does the job perfectly and I have no complaints. Was this review helpful?

5 of 5 much better than expected Thursday, April 10, 2008 Patrick from Baton Rouge, LA
I got this unit since I have an 32" Sony Bravia HDTV with HDMI imputs and felt like making use of my tv's capabilities (Blue Ray is too expensive for me at $30 a movie right now). I thought it may improve the image slightly. However, I assumed people were merely exaggerating when they were praising the high quality of their regular dvd movies. I plugged it in and popped in a dvd I burned from some clips off the internet to test its true power. The difference is amazing! I can sit with my face nearly pressing against the screen and be able to see the entire picture clearly on the pristine 1080p upconversion (yes, my tv supports 1080p). Normally, I have to sit at least 4-6 feet away to be able to see movies without any sign of blurring but not anymore. It feels like watching a movie that was bought on HD DVD (never seen blue ray so can't compare). I think my only gripe is that the controller isn't long enough and it doesn't have an eject button on it. My next purchase would be an external hard drive to make use of its divx playing abilities from clips I can download from the internet. P.S. buy your HDMI cable from monoprice.com. Best quality for wholesale price. HDMI cables are only expensive because of the middleman and markups to compensate lower prices on the high quality dvd players. Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 HDMI cable not supplied Sunday, April 06, 2008 A Customer from Austin Texas
There is no HDMI without the HDMI cable which is not included - the information on the box of the player is thus inaccurate!
The customer has additional burden to get the cable and to pay additionally. Was this review helpful?

5 of 5 excellent player Sunday, March 16, 2008 Mike from Austin, TX
this DVD player is a great value. setup was incredibly easy. SD DVDs look great when upconverted to 1080p. I'm happy I bought this instead of a blu-ray or HD DVD player. Was this review helpful?

I purchased this Phillps dvd player for the up-convert 1080p cus I purchased a Toshiba 65inch HI-Def (1080p) on black friday. Now, the basic 480p dvd's looked ok. but I knew I was missing out using the old dvd player. but I didnt want to dish out the money for a HI-Def dvd player, or Blue ray until we see which comes out on top. Hook-up was a breeze,HDMI and I used my TV's optical digital output to pass the sound to my home theater. Set up was pretty easy and straight forward. I popped in a test DVD (transformers), I set the DVD player to standard picture (1080p)and my tv to movie. when the movie started, I was blown away. the picture is so clear, the definition is outstanding. I knew I made a right decision. Taking a standard dvd and get as close to hi-def 1080p as i'm going to get until I get one of the real hi-def machines with hi-def/blue ray dvds. If your looking for an inexpensive alternative until you get the real thing, this is definitly one way to go.. I fully recommend this Phillips 1080p Upconvert DVD player Was this review helpful?
