5 of 5 Great Value! Saturday, October 31, 2009 A Customer from Chicago, IL
I love these speakers! The lights alone are completely worth it. Bass is pretty strong (I keep the set fairly low so the neighbors don't complain). Fans can be a bit noisy and I mainly use the rumble bar as a rest for my forearms. Sound quality is pretty good (though I'm no audiophile). The only annoyance I have so far is that the volume is controlled through the computer only. Adjusting them from the speakers only changes the volume settings on the computer. But that's no big deal. They also don't have MAC drivers for the lights, but they work perfectly fine as standalone speakers. Was this review helpful?

5 of 5 Excellent value! Monday, October 26, 2009 A Customer from Chicago, IL
I got this off of buy.com when it was around $75 and it was well worth it!!
I had intended to get a better sounding set of speakers for about twice as much, but after reading reviews and seeing some demo videos on youtube, i was won over by the novelty of this immersion kit.
I've yet to even bother with the rumble bar (I mainly use it as an armrest on my desk) and the fans... but what gets me giddy with excitement every time I use these speakers are the LIGHTS!! Just setting the winamp visualizer in the background and having the lighting change with my music is so ridiculously awesome!
The speakers are pretty decent and have not disappointed me yet (though I'm no audiophile and I don't push my systems to their limits). I have to say that the bass is pretty strong so I usually have it turned down pretty low so the neighbors don't complain. I am a little annoyed with the fact that there are no direct volume adjustments on the speakers and that it is adjusted primarily through the audio settings on the computer, but the lights more than make up for any of that and I could put up with so many more problems.
You have to actually see these lights in action... the youtube videos do a decent job of demonstrating them... but it's a whole other experience when these babies are sitting right on your desk! Visitors to my place are always impressed with the light show. Considering there are no other speaker systems out there like this (especially for the price I've gotten it at) this is a very unique and novel toy to have even if you already own a decent sound system.
Other possible issues:
My roommate also purchased this system after I showed it to him. He loves it! BUT, he's running this in Windows Vista and using the most updated drivers from their website (not off the included CD) yet he gets these occasional errors throughout the day related to the speakers. Granted, he runs all the background programs and sets his lights off to change colors even when he's just browsing the net. I have yet to do that. I simply have the speakers stay one color during normal computer usage and run the visualizer whenever I play my mp3s. That's good enough for me for the moment.
Another possible issue is that the drivers and programs do NOT work on a Mac. I have these connected to a Macbook Pro but luckily I use bootcamp and run XP as well. Speakers are perfect through XP so far and I can at least listen to my music on the Mac OS though w/o the lights (good enough! considering I just wanted a regular set of speakers in the first place).
Hope that helps any of you on the fence for this product. It's not currently available through this site, but I'm sure other places have it in stock. :-) Philips did a horrible job marketing these speakers as I'd never seen or heard of these until I saw them posted on a deal site. This sound system is really good. The only problem is no control of the treble, but otherwise amazing. It has got a ton of bass. I'm afraid if I max it out, the neighbors will make a noise complaint. The lights are also sweet looking. Haven't tried the fans or rumble bar, but the speakers are all I need. Was this review helpful?
