5 of 5Very Pleased with X3 8650 and the Price. Thursday, March 05, 2009 Rusty from Butler, NJ
Very pleased with the price/performance ratio of
the Phenom X3 8650. I was able to buy the price
down even further from the sale price cuz of the 26 points I had accumulated from Buy.com's own Visa card. Gotta
love buy.com for that.
Bought the 8650 as a upgrade chip (from a X2 3800+) for my Tseries Biostar 780G for a HTPC I built.
I've had it up to an o'clock of 2.42 Ghz w/out volt. mods
in the Bios and it was stable so far for a 1 hr run of
AMD's Overdrive Stability test. I've had it seemingly stable
at 2.52G but havnt run stability test at 2.52Ghz, as yet. This
chip is very adequate for my HTPC needs. Does everything
I need it to do, and well.
The included retail 9 bladed fan is identical to the one i got
with my old Athlon64 Single Core Retail Sckt 939 3700+chip
and the heat sink is nearly identical.
This my only gripe. You'd think AMD would
offer a better cooling solution for a Retail X3 chip.
My temps went up to 55-56c runnin stability test for
10 mins with a .1Volt increase to the CPU voltage when
I was o'clocked to 2.52Ghz. For serious overclocking
you would need a better aftr market cooling solution to
keep the chips temps down.
Overall, very pleased.
