 Editor's Note
Lon Chaney, "Man of a Thousand Faces," stars in this silent horror classic. In the film, based on Gaston Leroux's timeless novel, a disfigured, catacomb-dwelling musician (Chaney) terrorizes the Paris Opera House while attempting to turn a pretty chorus girl (Mary Philbin) into a star.
 Plot Summary
The Phantom lives deep in the recesses of the Paris Opera House, well hidden from cruel and prying eyes. But when he falls in love with the beauteous Christine Dane, he becomes aware of his intense loneliness; in desperation, the Phantom kidnaps his love and carries her back to his secret lair. Assuring Christine that he will never harm her, he asks only one thing: that she never remove his mask.

5 of 5 Lon... Phantom Friday, March 10, 2000 cunjer from Reno NV
Not much to say, the first and best of the series. The horror and the pathos of the villain best portrayed by the flowing movements of Chaney, which makes it soooo really spooky. And Besides: This one HAS the Persian. Was this review helpful?

Yes, it is true, this is perhaps one of the ultimate classic films, Lon Chaney assuming the role of the scarred and insane Erik. Perhaps it is my bias as a fan of the broadway show and Andrew Lloyd Webber's vision, but this version pales in comparison. It is a classic love story, but is better now then then, my suggestion, rent this one, buy the one with Antonio Banderas when it comes out. Was this review helpful?
