This thing really moves a lot of air through the Playstation 3. If you hold your hand next to it you can feel the hot air being forced out and feel the air being pulled in through the front of the system. What's nice is that it has its own power source (instead of using the playstation like other models) and with the thermal sensors, keeps running after you turn the playstation off. Everyone complains about the fan not being "whisper quiet" but it is actually quieter than the playstation's internal fan, the combination of the two together is what makes it sound loud. If you have your sound system on then you don't notice it as much, and when you turn off the playstation it does sound "whipser quiet" by itself. The shape and colors of it match the 80 GB Playstation perfectly so much so that you can't tell them apart. It also comes with some black cover pieces to conceal the chrome parts to match other models. Overall I highly recommend buying this. I've had it for several weeks now and it works flawlessly, turning on and off automatically depending on the playstation's temperature. Was this review helpful?

It is not whisper quiet like the box claims.
What I like about it is the fact that it keeps running after the PS3 is shut down.
The PS3 has it's own fans but it still gets scary hot. What made me nervous was when I would shut the PS3 down the internal fans stopped. The unit would just sit there and bake. The Pelican cooler is thermal controlled and will keep running for an hour or so keeping the air moving through the PS3.
The cooler shuts down on it's own when the PS3 is cooled down.
If the noise doesn't bother you then adding one of these, it just snaps on, can't hurt and may add some extra life to the expensive game machine. Was this review helpful?

I bought this cooler after I noticed that when I shut down my PS3 the fan inside shut down. The machine was very hot and the internal fan was going strong and then nothing. I think the design should have provided for the internal fan to run till the temperature inside was cool regardless of the off status of the machine.
I decided that I should probably either leave the PS3 on and idling after watching a movie or playing a game till it's fan stopped or provide it with an external fan to get the residual heat out.
The Pelican Cooler has an automatic temperature control and the fan runs for quite a while after the PS3 is shut down and stops when the machine is cooled down.
The cooler box claims the fan is whisper quiet but that is not true to my ears. It's quieter then a leaf blower but I sure wouldn't call it a whisper.
The cooler has an on off switch and I find that I leave it on for games but turn it off during movie watching. I then turn it back on before PS3 shut down and just let it run till it shuts itself off.
The fit and finish are very good and the price of $20.00 from buy.com using Google check out made it a reasonable add on to me.

The PS3 console seems to run pretty warm and I was concerned that it might sorten its life. I got this cooler over the the USB modual because it had a seperate power supply and had 3 fans. This Item starts and stops based on heat and only having it for a week looks good on the console and works, the heat blowing out of the cooler is quite a bit cooler then the console its self.
