In a race against time, crack Special Forces Colonel Thomas DeVoe (Clooney) and Dr. Kelly team up, putting aside their personal differences as they track the last remaining warhead to the steps of the United Nations in this taut apocalyptic thriller from director Mimi Leder. "White-knuckle tension with plenty of smarts." Gene Shalit, Today Show "...A breathless thriller..." Janet Maslin, The New York Times "Good action scenes..." Leonard Maltin's Movie & Video Guide
 Editor's Note
Brash Special Forces Intelligence Officer Thomas Devoe (Clooney) teams up with anti-smuggling official Dr. Julia Kelly (Kidman) to track down runaway nuclear bombs which have fallen into the dastardly hands of a Yugoslavian terrorist determined to draw attention to the slaughter in his former homeland by nuking midtown Manhattan. Clooney makes another run at action stardom, this time under the direction of his "ER" producer, Leder. Based on the writings of investigative journalists Andrew and Leslie Cockburn.

| | Professional Reviews | Box Office "...Effectively intense..." 10/01/1997 p.42New York Times "...THE PEACEMAKER culminates in a show-stopping action sequence....Directed by Ms. Leder with crisp economy and furious energy..." 09/26/1997 p.E10 Entertainment Weekly "...[Leder] stages all of this with crisp exactitude....[The] atmospherics are elegant and accomplished..." 10/03/1997 p.52-3 Find-A-Video 9 of 10 Stylishly shot and edited, The Peacemaker marks a very credible directorial debut for Leder (an Emmy Award winner from E.R.) as she mixes action, suspense and drama to produce quite a few heart-pounding scenes filmed from all over the globe. A terrific opening sequence... Leder keeps the action going at a steady clip, and the finale set on the crowded streets of New York City is remarkable in creating suspense and in terms of filmmaking technique. Clooney and Kidman work well together, though it is Leder's taut direction and the sometimes incredible action scenes which are the real stars of the film.
