5 of 5 Very nice Pencils - Comfortable -- My kids want to Thursday, February 26, 2009
Robbie J from Cary, NC

Ordered these for a tremendous price for 4 pencils. Just be prepared to wait. After waiting a very long time -- they arrived. They are very nice for about 2.50 each and free shipping. Cannot agrue with that! Just have to argue with my 2 kids about them trying to steal all of these cool pencils! Wurd! I prefer to use a different eraser then the one on the pencil. The one on the pencils is very nice and telescopes to quite some length. Nice Units!

4 of 5 Great Pencils Sunday, November 30, 2008
ST from Houston, Tx
These are good one even for frequent use. They are slightly bulky but gives the advantage of firm grip when using them for developing hand sketches. The only for 4 rating is the open eraser at the back. I would prefer to have a covered eraser.

4 of 5 Great Buy Sunday, November 23, 2008
A Customer from Manhattan Beach, CA
It took a long time to receive these (although e-mails kept apologizing for the delay, so I knew they were coming), but it was worth the wait. Great mechanical pencil for the price. I'll probably order more.

5 of 5 Quality pencils Friday, November 21, 2008
A Customer from Springville, Utah
These Sanford mechanical pencils were surprisingly well made with a quality feel and mechanism. The barrel was somewhat wide and wouldn't fit in some of the pencil or pen holders in many briefcases, etc. but I was very comfortable to write with and such a bargain $2.50 per pencil. I'm sure retail would have to be 2 to 4 times what I paid. As others have mentioned, it took a long time to receive my order. Other than that, a great bargain.

4 of 5 Decent Pencil Friday, November 21, 2008
A Customer from Bradenton Fl
I know i might be a little biased when it comes to this review, because i didnt recieve shipment until 2 months later from woot.com (even though i bought it from buy.com) Each pencil was individually wrapped in a plastic baggy. It was thrown in a box with some cushion. There is no box or anything like that. The picture looks slightly better then the actual product. The lead is a little light for my tastes and breaks easily. The build quailty is average and nothing special. Decent pencil for the price. (2.50)

5 of 5 Nice Clickers Friday, November 21, 2008
DT from Cambridge, MA
Great pencils, high quality clicking action, great rubber grip, looks fancy, etc. It took a while to get here and the barrel might be too fat for some, but I can overlook these things because the price is right and the pencils themselves are very nice. I put one in my 8-yr old daughter's pencil cup and she noticed it immediately and began to treasure it.

5 of 5 Phd Pencil Monday, November 10, 2008
A Customer from Chandler, AZ
I would recommend this pencil because of it's comfortable grip, extended eraser and expensive but affordable look. Shipping was horrible since it took a month to get to my door, but the product was good.

5 of 5 Great pencil Monday, November 10, 2008
John from Chino Valley, AZ
Fingers never get tired and lead does not break as frequently as other brand pencils do for the same thickness lead. Really comfortable to hold.

5 of 5 the ultimate pencil Monday, November 10, 2008
James from Madison, WI
Let me first say that I am extremely picky with pencils. A "4" from me is probably all you would ever want in a pencil. I've gone through at least 10 different kinds of mechanical pencils in the past year. I've been doing this for 4 years now. From cheap $1/5 to $10/ea. So far, this is the best pencil I've used. As an engineer, I have strict standards. Pros: extending eraser, solid weight, good grip, spring-loaded writing (hard to rip the paper you're writing on), smooth, tight-fitting lead (no wobbling) Cons: A little too fat for my fingers. Shipped item was maroon red, not black. After 3 months of hard use and taking it apart every couple days out of boredom, the plastic screw-in center piece (that should never be removed) eventually stripped. If you don't play with your pencils as an engineer would, this isn't a problem. Overall, I will be searching for the *perfect* pencil. But, in the mean time, this is the one.

3 of 5 Bubble wrapped individually for packaging? Monday, November 10, 2008
A Customer from WA
Bought these so long ago and received them more than a month later. Package finally arrived and I was surprised to find that rather in a plastic/cardboard package you would see most mechanical pencils in, they were wrapped in four individual bubble-wrap bags. Weird. Ease of use is a 2 because I'm referring to the item being ordered and it was hard to receive it on time.

1 of 5 Never Received Friday, November 07, 2008
A Customer from Phoenix, AZ
I ordered these on September 12th and after receiving 2 backorder emails I received an email saying they were shipped on October 10th. Today is November 7th and after several emails back and forth with the Customer Service Department, I still have not received them. I paid using PayPal and they charge your account immediately even if it takes months to ship.

4 of 5 Ooops! Sunday, November 02, 2008
A Customer from Annandale, VA
When I saw this item on top of the What's Shakin' list, I immediately assumed it was a combo pen-pencil-stylus. I wasn't aware that PaperMate had more than one product on the PhD line. Oh well. These pencils still look very nice and seem fine as mechanical pencils go. As far as I can tell, there's nothing wrong with these pencils. Buy.com took about a month to fulfill the order, but I wasn't charged until my order shipped.

5 of 5 Sanford PhD Mechanical Pencil Tuesday, October 28, 2008
Jack from Branchburg, NJ
If you like a well made and good looking 'fat' mechanical pencil with a .5mm thin lead then this is for you. It has a very comfortable grip and feels great in your hand. The tip eraser extends to provide you with an inch of 'white' eraser material. The shiny black body and gold trim has the look of a much more expensive pencil.

5 of 5 Nice pencil! Tuesday, October 28, 2008
A Customer from Brooklyn, NY
I teach math and this is a nice tool. The 0.5mm lead is stronger than the 0.7mm, and it writes just fine. Best feature? A large eraser that extends when the top is twisted.

4 of 5 basically happy with purchase Tuesday, October 28, 2008
jim from shaker heights, OH
The delivery was very late. Other than that I'm glad to have the pencils. Good deal. I think I paid $10 for 4 pencils. The thing around the eraser is plastic. It's not a cross set -- but a good pencil at a good price.

5 of 5 Excellent Pencils Tuesday, October 28, 2008
Rick H. from Charlotte, NC
These pencils are great. Every pecil I have used in the past few years has advanced the lead so far with each push that it breaks off when I try to write. I end up having to adjust the lead with my fingers every time I want to advance it. These are the first pencils I have used that advance the lead only about 1mm with each push, which is perfect. Also, the eraser works well and easily extends, by twisting the cap, to the exact length you need. I am very happy and woul gladly buy them again. They are easily worth twice what I paid.

4 of 5 Nice pencils Tuesday, October 28, 2008

Rec'd pencils after a few backorder notices, but when they arrived they were a good value for the price, and seem to operate well. I'd buy more.

5 of 5 Good buy, nice pencil Tuesday, October 28, 2008
Uncle Ed from Springfield MO
What can you say about a pencil? This one is sturdy, larger diameter, rubberized grip, and feels good in your hand. If you write as much as I do, you appreciate a pencil that doesn't feel flimsy. At four for ten bucks, these are a great deal.

5 of 5 Value for Money Tuesday, October 28, 2008
A Customer from minneapolis, mn
The pencils took longer than normal to be delivered, but I was given the option to cancel when the order was backlogged. The pencils came individually wrapped in bubble-wrap (in order words, 'bulk'). At $2.50 each the quality and price are unbeatable.

5 of 5 Exceptional Pencil Saturday, October 25, 2008
Gerald Boyette from Tampa Florida
The finish and presentation of these pens is exceptional. I gave two of the four away as gifts to men who own very expensive writing instruments (both, business owners) and they too were impressed. And, of course, they are comfortable writing instruments large enough for a man's hand. I don't expect this deal to come around again but I'm on board for another just like it.

5 of 5 Very nice pencil Wednesday, October 22, 2008
A Customer from Kennesaw, GA
These mechanical pencils are well worth the money. I bought them for my daughter to use in school and like them so much I decided to keep 2 of them for myself. They are very well constructed and function very nicely. The only thing I did not realize when I bought them is that they are .5 mm instead .7 mm which is what I used to using but that's no problem at all. I just need to learn not to press too hard when writing.
