LEICA 28mm Wide-Angle Lens with 10x Optical Zoom
Now you can fit sweeping landscapes into a single frame with the 28mm wide-angle setting. Pull in subjects from far away to capture even subtle facial expressions with the dynamic 280mm telephoto setting. Ideal for traveling, the DMC-TZ5 Lumix® 9.1-megapixel digital camera combines a wide-ranging LEICA DC Vario-Elmar lens with a handy, compact body. The Extra Optical Zoom function also extends the zoom to as much as 16.9x, giving you even greater telephoto power.

Intelligent Auto Mode Helps Get Great Shots in Every Situation
Set the TZ5 to iA mode and let the five Intelligent Auto functions team up to help prevent shooting errors. Intelligent Exposure corrects lighting differences, so images come out just the way you see them; Intelligent Scene Selector chooses the mode that best fits the situation; MEGA Optical Image Stabilization (O.I.S.) helps prevent blurring from hand-shake; Intelligent ISO Control helps prevent motion blur; and Face Detection helps produce clear portraits by optimizing the focus and exposure settings.

Big, Bright 3.0" LCD with Intelligent LCD Function
With a total of 460,000 dots, the big, bright 3.0" diagonal LCD makes viewing and shooting easier and more comfortable. The Intelligent LCD adjusts brightness automatically in 10 steps as the ambient light level changes, so images are clear, bright and easy to see day or night, indoors or outdoors.

30 fps High-Definition Motion Images and HD Output
The TZ5 can record motion images with sensational 1280 x 720 HD resolution at 30 frames per second (fps). You can use the zoom, too, and capture some truly dramatic shots. When you're done shooting for the day, just connect the camera to an HDTV and you're ready to view your still shots and motion images in high-definition beauty.

Special Travel Functions for the Perfect Trip
The Clipboard allows you to take photos of maps, timetables and other travel info. They are saved in a separate folder of the built-in memory to distinguish them from normal photos. You can print titles and other characters on the photos you shoot with the Title Edit and Stamp. This is great for creating your own postcards from a vacation trip. Input your departure date and destination with the Travel Date Setting. Later, during photo viewing, the camera will indicate on which day of the trip each shot was taken and the location.

5 of 5 Extremely pleased Tuesday, April 14, 2009
Teresa from Wilmington, NC

I recently purchased this camera after my daughter gave me a flyer/brochure she got from the hospital after the birth of my granddaughter. I LOVE all the great features on this camera - especially the one that allows you to enter a child's birth date and it keeps up with how old they are when you take photos of them! My old camera was always taking slightly "fuzzy" or "blurry" pictures of the baby in motion. This camera does a great job of eliminating the blur when the baby moves. The photos have all been great and I'm extremely pleased. The IA feature is great for a photography novice like me. Even I am taking really good pictures now! I highly recommend this camera.

I ordered my TZ5 on Dec. 30. and received it on Jan. 6, 2009. Easy ordering, good price, and fast handling. The camera is ideal for carrying with you in a pocket. It produces excellent pictures with its Leica lens. In iA mode, it is fully automatic with multiple face detection features assuring perfect pictures. I recommend this product and source.

5 of 5 Wonderful and Easy to Use! Saturday, July 26, 2008
Wendy from New York
This camera takes beautiful pictures. It is easy to use and basically does all of the work for you. It is important to read quickly through the manual so that you realize why there is a bit of a delay at times. A great value for the money.

5 of 5 Excellent Camera Monday, July 21, 2008
A Customer from La Jolla, CA
This is an excellent camera for the price. 10x zoom is very impressive. Would've been nice if megapixels were higher but for most uses this suffices. It is quite compact given the features. Regarding video, given that this is a camera I thought the quality was excellent. It doesn't do as well with action scenes but for slow moving scenes where focus doesn't have to change much, this is excellent especially considering you don't have to lug around anything big. I'm happy with the image quality. You do have to invest some time in learning the camera's functions to bring out the best quality pictures. I paid around $275 through buy.com. I would not buy any other camera unless you absolutely have to spend less than $150 or have special needs such as a very slim camera. The extra money is worth it. Cameras in our family that are just a couple years old vastly pale in comparison.

5 of 5 Fantastic camera Sunday, June 15, 2008
A Customer from Silverdale, WA
I was undecided between this model and the Canon SD950, but glad I bought the Panasonic DMC-TZ5. It was much cheaper (especially on sale on Buy.com) and the optics is fantastic. I love the 28mm wide angle and the 10X optical can be expanded even more out to 16.9 (at reduce resolution) and even can be expanded by digital zoon by 4X more to 67.5!! Of course the resolution is very poor at this zoom level, but it does work. You will need to purchase a memory card to store your photos as the internal memory is only for starters. I recommend buying the high speed (10 megabits per second or faster) SD card of at least 2GB. So far with the photos I have taken, the camera has performed perfectly and I'm extremely happy with it. And of course, Buy.com had the lowest price anywhere at $269.99.

5 of 5 Simplicity Itself Sunday, June 15, 2008
Dianne from Mount Vernon, NY
I chose this camera for it's compactness and the extremely high quality lens. I never expected the controls to be so easy to use right out of the box. Important ones are right there on the body to select. I can select the type of shots I'll be taking before I leave the house and the camera memorizes two of them. Facial recognition software is superb and highly accurate, really import when you're running around after three year olds at a birthday party. The color accuracy of skin tones is astonishing and there's very little editing need to print outstanding 4X6's every time. If you want a compact, easy to use camera, this is the one to you'll be very happy to have.

Great photos, easy to use, and compact. I bought this camera 3 weeks ago and 2 of my friends bought it after using mine. Shipping through buy.com marketplace was $9, and I received it within 3 days. Great product, great service and fast shipping. This is why I do all my business at buy.com. Thank you.

4 of 5 So far, so good. Tuesday, May 20, 2008
A Customer from New York
We have the camera for only a few weeks but it seems to be a great camera. My one and only complaint is the writing speed. I spent the extra $ to get the high speed 8 gig SDHC card and yet the writing speed is not what I was hoping for. Otherwise, we really like the quality of the pic’s and video.

4 of 5 Great camera for travel!! Monday, April 21, 2008
Monte from Houston, TX
I used to hug around a heavy DSLR with 18-200mm for travel. Or worse, sometimes I carried a few prime lenses that make my bag even heavier. This time, before my trip to Chicago last week, I decided to buy a high zoom ratio digital compact to try if it may replace my heavy DSLR stuffs. I am happy to report that this Panasonic TZ5 was up to this task. I still carried my same old DSLR+heavy lenses with me, but I found they were left in hotel most of the time. This TZ5 zooms from 28mm to 280mm (35mm formtat equivalent) optically, and can further increased to 470mm by electronic zoom. It has an optical image stablization system to reduce the hand shake, very useful when you zoom to telephoto. Its optic quality and noise reduction is much more than just adequate. You can hardly see the differences with DSLR if the prints are under 8X10'. Its intellegent exposure handles the highlight/shadow beautifully. The only thing I miss is the manual control of apertures. But otherwise, I will travel light from now on. I can safely leave my DSLR home for most of the trips and carry this wonderful digital compact!

5 of 5 View LCD in Sunshine Sunday, April 20, 2008
Ilene E. from Surprise, Az
I love the fact that I finally have a digital camera that I can take pictures in complete sunshine and see through the LCD! Nice wide angle for a big group picture or landscape. I have many cameras & find this one to be the most virsitale. With the mode set to IA, even a novice can get great shots. I would definately recommend this camera.

5 of 5 Terrifc Value Thursday, April 17, 2008
GeraldT from Midway, NC
Never expected this: the camera I buy for vacation travel becomes my favorite. The Lumix TZ3 topped my research until I read previews of the TZ5, so I waited. It was worth it! The TZ5 has the mix of versatility, features, picture quality, ease of use and size that I had not thought possible to find in a single camera. After two weeks and several hundred pictures, it continues to amaze me with the consistent quality of the pictures it pulls out of every condition I can think of. The Intelligent Auto engine gets it right so often it's scary - OK, it isn't perfect, but it still turns out shots better than other cameras I've owned and tested. The Scene modes, white balance, intelligent ISO and other controls provide much more control than you would think when you want to go in a more manual mode. The travel features and text and sound addition options are winners. My only downers: the retractable lens cover seems rather fragile and the mic is located directly under where your left index finger wants to go when you hold it. I haven't pulled out my "real" camera in a longer while than I can remember in the three years I've owned it. Forget NikCanon and the boys - get this one.

5 of 5 Sweet Camera for the price Tuesday, April 15, 2008
A Customer from Colorado
I was looking to replace my little portal Nikon Coolpix 5600 5 Megapixel camera and my larger PowerShot Pro 1 8 Megapixel camera with something that could combine both size and features. This camera has done that and more. It takes incredibly clear shots and has the option of all the manual settings. Very nice package.

5 of 5 Great Product & Great Service From Buy.com Tuesday, April 15, 2008
run_gary_run from Indianapolis
I haven't much to say except that the Camera is just what I wanted and it is preforming just how I need it to do. I use it daily at work and several times a week for personal use. I enjoy using the Panorama Maker 4 software that came with the camera too. I really don't think you'll be making a mistake with this camera so I recommed it to anyone that wants to have a camera that is taking pictures for pleasure or even the close up ones. The 10x Optical Zoom is really Great too!
