Looking for a wider than 28mm lens on a pocket size point and shoot? Look no further! For me, 28mm just didn't do justice to interior room shots. I was one step away from the bulk and cost of a digital SLR when Panasonic released the Lumix FX35 with intelligent auto mode. That must have something to do with their new Venus IV engine. I don't know. What I do know is that I may never have reason to learn the myriad of features available on this camera beyond shooting on intelligent auto mode. Picture quality is at least as good as my Nikon CoolPix. The features are easier to use - a slide on / off switch that can't be mistaken for the shutter; a dial switch for intelligent auto mode, normal mode, scene mode (something like 20 scenes), video (high def!) mode, and document copy mode. How simple! Beyond this, there are layers of menus and modes that are of little interest to me. I am sure I will get around to them, but I am in no hurry. I haven't found a scene or shooting situation where I can beat that awesome Panasonic intelligent auto mode. Short of hauling around a DSLR, I could not be more pleased with the picture quality of this camera, and, I am happy to to give up that small difference in quality for the lack of bulk and complexity that would come with the DSLR.
