Arresting humor meets criminal comedy in this quirky romp about three wonderfully witless cons in search of a crime. Starring William Forsythe, Vincent Gallo, Adam Trese and Frances McDormand, Palookaville is an irresistible, feel-good gem (Screen International) that s terrifically enjoyable (The Wall Street Journal) and hard to resist (Variety)! For bumbling buddies Sid (Forsythe), Russ (Gallo) and Jerry (Trese), a life of crime looks like a solid career move until they learn they might be under-qualified. Plotting to rob a jewelry store, they mistakenly burglarize a bakery. Scheming to hold up an armored truck, they wind up rescuing the driver. In fact, their hilarious struggle to pull off just one simple heist proves that crime doesn t pay if you re too dumb to take the loot!System Requirements:Running Time: 92 Min.Format: DVD MOVIE

"...a warm-spirited, amusing twist on heist flicks"  Desson Howe, Washington Post
"...a gentle, magical quality of tone meshes with drastic melancholy to create a welcome comic symphony."  Susan Lambert, Box Office Magazine

Editor's Note

Three friends decide to embark on a life of crime. But with their only criminal experience gleaned from what they've seen on television, the heist of the decade these fellows have planned may very well turn into the flop of the century. Winner of Best Picture Prize at the 1995 Venice Film Festival.

Plot Summary

Sid, Russ and Jerry are three working-class, slightly dense, likeable average Joes. They are also aspiring criminals, who continually find ways to screw up their would-be thefts. Undeterred, the members of this luckless gang decide to end their days of poverty by attempting a major heist of an armored car -- using toy guns. Can the bumbling palookas pull off this seemingly impossible feat?

Chicago Sun-Times 7 of 10
No doubt Palookaville will have the millstone of Tarantinoism tied around its neck; any urban crime movie with a lot of guys and a little humor is routinely linked these days with Q.T. But the movie's roots go back further, to a group of short stories by the Italian writer Italo Calvino in the 1940s. And the feel of the movie is more like those older caper films, not only Italian but British (The Lavender Hill Mob). - Roger Ebert
