5 of 5 Love the Palm TX, but had to get replacement Tuesday, August 12, 2008
A Customer from Orlando, FL

I love the Palm TX and the many applications available for the Palm TX. I use it for to do lists, keeping my time (as lawyer) and memos. I can email any of the lists, time entries or memos to my office wirelessly from my home. Unfortunately, the first Palm TX I received had a defective digitizer and I had to return it to Buy.com. Palm diagnosed the problem quickly and advised me to return it to the Buy.com. Buy.com was very helpful and I had a replacement in a few days. I learned through blogs that a defective digitizer is a common problem for the Palm TX. I use a Blackberry for email and cell phone, but find the Palm TX is much easier to use for timekeeping, to dos and memos. I keep the Palm TX with me at all times when I am working.

5 of 5 Another great Palm Thursday, December 13, 2007
A Customer from Nutley, NJ
If you are a fan of the Palm line, then you will really like the TX. Large screen, great colors, the wi-fi (that is really great!) and since I have been a user of palm products since a palm III, easy to use. Downside is that even though I am proficient in graffiti, this one does not seem to accept it well so it forces you to use the built in keyboard. But it pops in and out so it gives you the whole screen when you need it. I was able to add in all my old apps easily and add new ones. I transfered a lot of things from a smartphone which got just too clunky so I actually decided to go back to two devices for the large screen, lighter palm and wi-fi. I installed an IM software that works like a charm and where wifi is around - can chat easily like at home. I have my life in the calendar and the address book so keep it handy. Games are a must. Keeps good power too. Hope you enjoy yours as much as I enjoy mine.

3 of 5 Secure WiFI doesn't work Friday, December 07, 2007
Tom Kennedy from Thornton, CO
Overall not a bad PDA. The biggest problem with it is the WiFi doesn't work reliably if you use any encryption (WEP or WPA). Installing the Enterprise WiFi upgrade (which provides WPA-AES and WPA-Enterprise) doesn't help either. <p> I spent a year fighting with their entirely useless tech support to get them to fix the problem. I returned my TX 4 times. All of them had the same flaky secure WiFi. (WiFi does work fine when connecting to an unsecured WAP.) <p> If you plan on using WiFi with WEP or WPA, don't bother purchasing. After two years of cursing my TX, I'm replacing mine with a Nokia N800.

5 of 5 Pretty decent for first PDA Sunday, September 16, 2007
A Customer from St. Louis,MO
This is my very first PDA and I am pretty satisfied with my purchase. I read multiple reviews from several websites - including Consumer Reports - and decided that this PDA was worth a try. I'm happy that I purchased it! I mainly use it for the calendar and task functions as I bought it to replace my old "pen and paper organizer" method. I love the ease of entering events and task - and especially love the [sound] alerts and organization [i.e., type of task: business, personal, create your own]. I also like the WiFi feature - use it to check email or the Internet either at home (we have wireless) or in a restaurant with free WiFi. I agree with all the other reviews regarding "first PDA" - the Palm TX is definitely a good purchase of a first-timer!

5 of 5 Best Palm I've Owned Monday, August 06, 2007
sshunn from Montgomeryville PA
This is my third palm and the best so far. The screen quality is exceptional and the colors brilliant. The battery appears to have a longer life between charges than my Tungsten E. I enjoy the ability to use wi-fi from my Palm.

3 of 5 Good product, but not excellent Saturday, July 14, 2007
Asimov from San Antonio, Texas
The device is well designed, with few drawbacks. I updated from a Sony Clie PEG T665C, which has been discontinued. Since it looks like Palm OS PDAs are being discontinued in favor of phones, the Palm TX is as sophisticated as a PDA will ever get. I have been wishing for device that would (1) function as a PDA, (2) be a good book reader, (3) allow me to browse the internet and check e-mails, and (4) substitute my mp3 player. The Palm TX excels at (1) and (2), is good for (3), and it is clearly bad for (4). As PDA and book reader, I could not ask for more. The PDA synchronizes wirelessly at excellent speed. The updates in the Palm Desktop software are marginal, which is not bad, as I could easily export all of the data (contacts, notes, to-do) from my Sony Clie. I am very satisfied with the compatibility with older versions of the Palm desktop. My wife could also synchronize her very old Palm m100. Thus, you can use you older Palm devices with the newer software; the software automatically recognizes the user and creates independent accounts on the same computer. As a book reader, I am happy with the screen size and the size of the available fonts. As a device to browse the internet it works well. I was pleasantly surprised of the amount of content for mobile devices. This is obviously driven by phone needs, but Palm TX benefits from the availability of such mobile sites. There are excellent mobile versions of Yahoo!, Hotmail, and Google. There is tons of good content on mobile format. With respect to the easiness of browsing, I have mixed feelings. You have to browse with the stylus. I wish there was a “back” button that could take you to the previously browsed page, or to the previously opened application. The Sony Clie had a browsing wheel with a back button that was so convenient. In the Palm TX, there are few buttons, which means you have to rely on the stylus more. It is a minor inconvenience that should not dissuade anyone from buying this product. Now the bad news ... the Palm TX is really bad as mp3 player due to hissing sound in the background. The hiss is relatively loud and makes very unpleasant to listen to music. The hiss is even more evident in good quality headphones. This problem appears common in Palm TX devices, as anyone can check in the discussion groups at the Palm support website. Some people in those discussion groups have argued that Palm used inexpensive and unshielded audio components to bring the price down. I have had a number of mp3 players over the years (RCA, Rio, Creative, and the Sony Clie) and I have never heard this kind of hiss in any of them. I bought an external cable with volume control to fix the problem. The external volume control does impose an extra impedance that filters the noise; however, I am sure it also filters some music frequencies as well. The hiss noise brings the value of the device a bit down. I am disappointed that Palm failed to get the sound right. Extra software is needed to complement the usefulness of the device. For example, no Palm software is available to browse the contents of the memory card. Fortunately, freeware is available such as FileZ (www.nosleep.net) and UniCMD (http://www.unicmd.de/en/index.html) that allow to delete, copy, rename files in the card and in the Palm device. Excellent freeware is available in the internet (e.g., http://www.freewarepalm.com/). Palm TX ships with Pocket Tunes to play mp3 files. A $30 upgrade is available to enable WMA files and internet radio. The idea of internet radio using the Wi-Fi is great. I did not go for the Pocket Tunes update. Instead, I purchased Kinoma (www.kinoma.com) which allows playing not only audio files (mp3, wma, aac) and internet radio, but also video files (e.g., mpg, mov), and internet video (e.g., YouTube). It comes with a browser with pre-defined internet radio stations and video sites. Kinoma communicates quite well with the Blazer web browser. For example, when clicking a link to stream audio or video, Kinoma opens automatically and closes after the stream ended, taking you back to the Blazer browser to the internet point you were. Kinoma is less expensive than Pocket Tunes; thus, you get much more bang for the buck with Kinoma. The only drawback of Kinoma is that it stops playing when opening another application (as opposed to Pocket Tunes that keeps on playing until manually stopped). For additional video formats besides those supported by Kinoma, older versions of The Core Pocket Media Player (TCPMP) are available as freeware. There is an excellent free application to listen to internet radio, Mundu Radio (http://radio.mundu.com/). Any radio station can be added to the library, provided the URL is known. Differently than Kinoma, the Mundu Radio application keeps on playing while any other Palm application is open. Thus, for example, you can read books while listening to internet radio. I was very surprised with the wireless capability of the Palm TX. Not only it is possible to browse the internet, and stream audio and video from the internet (using Kinoma); it is only possible to wirelessly synchronize, and even browse the computers in a computer network and download and open compatible files (e.g., office files, pictures and audio files, palm application pdb files) via the WiFileLT application. I was not expecting this and I was pleasantly surprised. It was easy to set a good security level to connect to my Wi-Fi signal. I use MAC addresses to filter devices that can connect to my network with WEP encryption. I had not problem to customize the settings of the Palm TX to connect to my network. Pure beauty. As a parenthesis, I am surprised that Microsoft did not put the Wi-Fi connectivity in its Zune media player to better use. It is only used to share files among Zune users. What a limited use of Wi-Fi capability! That device would have been great had it had a web browser and internet radio. As is now, the Wi-Fi connectivity is pretty useless.

5 of 5 Great product at a Great Price Friday, June 01, 2007
A Customer from Houston, TX
I had one of these for about 6 months and loved it so much; I bought one of these for my wife to replace her old Vx which was on its last leg. The wireless sync and web browsing closed the deal for me. Great product at a great price. Buy.com is great to purchase from.

5 of 5 if only the Palm TX was stable Wednesday, April 25, 2007
greenfeet from Silver Spring, MD
I had not seen the reviews warning of many resets before I purchased my TX, but it wouldn't have changed my decision either. The TX replaces a Palm Tungsten/C which was also resetting often, but it had gotten really unstable. The only wireless option for me was the TX and while it does lock up a lot (others suggest it's related to the non-volatile storage) the non-volatile storage scheme means that less data seems to get lost and the recovery is quick. Conclusion, the resets are a sacrifice I'll accept for the otherwise stable platform and wireless capability. After all, it's still an improvement over the Tungsten/C.

5 of 5 INCREDIBLE Wednesday, April 25, 2007
vanniegsta from kansas city, ks
I love my new palm tx so much that I don't know what to do without it. It sure makes my life much simplier and less chaotic. The design of this pda is simply intelligent. I highly recommend buy.com, a trusted seller. I actually found and bought one on ebay in which the seller claimed the item to be "brand new" when it was actually refurbished (did not have a manual and came in standarized brown box) for $229. I made a smart choice by returning it and buying it here. For only $40 more (actually $10 more because I signed up for the buy.com visa credit card), I get a brand new palm tx with all its accessories, the technical support and warranty. You will not regret buying this item. Thank you so much buy.com. Will most definitely buy again.

5 of 5 Palm Has Finally Done It Friday, April 06, 2007
K Sullivan from Chicago, IL
I have owned Palms for a long time. I used them when they first gave me the ability to get email - using a bluetooth connection through my phone to retrieve data. It was SLOOOOOOW and cost money for a data plan through my phone.<br><br>When the LifeDrive came out, with integrated WiFi, I jumped right on it. It was so clunky, though, it was a major pain.<br><br>With the T/X, Palm has hit a home run. Slim design, powerful and quick Wi-Fi access, integrated browser and email make it a great way to stay connected when I'm out and about, in addition to all the calendar and contact features Palm has always had.<br><br>I may sound like I'm a Palm shill, but honestly, I'm just a regular customer who has been very happy since the day his new T/X arrived. :)

5 of 5 Love the WiFi Access! Wednesday, March 28, 2007
rtremmel from Lutz, FL
I bought this Palm as a gift for my wife. She uses it constantly and is delighted with its WiFi web browsing and music playing features. She keeps all her appointments, notes, and contacts on it in addition to music and pictures. The wireless sync is also a cool feature if you have wireless available in your house.

I have never had any problems with it. It only needs to be charged about once or twice a month. It is easy to use and easy to customize. I love it!!!!!!!

5 of 5 Palm T|X: An Easy Transition Wednesday, February 14, 2007
Joe Mecham from Norman, Oklahoma
I moved up to the T|X from a Tungsten E. This is one really nice PDA. Setup with Windows XP proved more trying than it should have been but the support from Palm was top-notch. I have started using most of the tools built-in to the T|X and have found them to be as intuitive as I expected from Palm. Frankly, connecting to WiFi hotspots and Bluetooth sources has been easy. My Windows XP desktop computer has given me more trouble than the Palm T|X especially with the Bluetooth connectivity. Carrying documents is easy and they display nicely. It also makes a great little music player; the battery life is terrific. For anyone considering the T|X, I recommend you give it a good look. I found it to be better than any of the Pocket PCs on the market and the Palm OS is just so easy and fun to use.

4 of 5 A Solid PDA with a great screen Wednesday, February 14, 2007
James G. Johnson from Laguna Beach, CA
The Palm TX is a wonderful PDA with a great screen, but it seems a bit slower than the Palm T3. I prefer the pop-up stylus that came with the T3 because of its convenience, but the T3 is no longer supported by Palm, so the TX is my clear choice. A nexcellent product.

5 of 5 Not first Palm Thursday, September 28, 2006
Chip from CT
I've had a number of Palm PDAs prior to this one, most recently a Tungsten C. This one certainly compares favorably compared to the rest. I do miss the keyboard a little. The wifi and Bluetooth services are a must in today's environment. The screen is nice and bright and large too. PalmOS 5 is a nice improvement. I love the toolbar on the bottom of the screen. This is a great PDA, I recommend it for everyone.

5 of 5 Good deal Tuesday, September 19, 2006
A Customer from Boston, MA
I've had an old Palm many years ago and was not satisfied with that product for a number of reasons (memory size, lack of function, low resolution screen, etc). Palm T/X took care of many of these issues with the availability of expansion memory slot, capacity to read/write word/powerpoint/excel/acrobat documents, and color screen. The MP3 player function and Wi-Fi access are neat new features that finally made me decide to buy it. I'm pleased with this device so far.

5 of 5 Worked beautifully straight out of the package! Thursday, August 03, 2006
A Customer from Tucson, Arizona.
This is an awesome product. As soon as I took it out of the packaging, I charged it for the minimum 3-5 hrs before turning it on. I couldn't wait to get it started! So after a full charge, I turned it on and began to surf the web immediately using my wireless modem at home. Very colorful screen, the pictures and videos look great. The software is very user friendly and allows you to load your files with ease. I installed a 2gb SD card and it works great. The music player is awesome as well. I highly recommend the TX!!

5 of 5 Awesome Upgrade, I am glad I waited Wednesday, May 03, 2006
A Customer from Somerville, MA
I recently thought my old trusty Handspring Visor was stolen at work so I started browsing the new PDAs out there. I came accross the TX and was amazed at all it included for such a low price. If you search the internet you will see all the praises so I don't need to re-hash them here. What I was surprised with was that the things that most people were complaining about were not an issue for my use. I actually liked the grafitti 2 and have no problem with speed at all. Also, if you look carefully, you will see that this is also a great media device (nice bonus). I listened to the MP3 player for the heck of it and I was amazed at the quality. However, I will continue to use my Creative Nano as I don't want my new TX to get banged around.

5 of 5 The Palm I had been waiting for... Monday, March 20, 2006
Scott from Stillwater, OK
This is the 4th generation Palm device I've had (Palm IIIx, Handspring Visor, Sony Clie, now the T|X) and with the large color screen and wi-fi, this is the machine I've been waiting for. The larger, sharp color screen makes all my apps, particularly E-books, a pleasure to use. With an expansion SD card and a 3rd-party utility I've even converted movies and TV shows to a format I can view on it. That works fantastic. The wi-fi connection has been the greatest leap forward. It works very well for POP mail access and I really like the email client that came with it. The web browser is good, but does have room for some improvements. It may just be my system, but it does occasionally lock up when I load the browser and I have to reset it. That doesn't happen often enough that it's overly frustrating, however. With the 3rd-party VNC application I can even take over control of my home PCs via the wi-fi link. I'm still finding new uses for that! There are two minor things I don't like about it: The on/off button is not in a convenient location (the Clie was the best) so it's sometimes difficult to turn off when it's in the protective case. The other thing is the synch cable--it can be a little tricky to plug in and it's too easy to accidentally push the synch button while you're doing it. Having said that, however, if my T|X got lost or broken today, I would immediately order another one!

4 of 5 Great handheld overall Saturday, March 18, 2006
mtnbike129 from Rockport, MA
I upgraded to a T|E early last year from an i705, and was very dissapointed. The screen died after less than a month, and then the battery, which wasn't that great in the first place, slowly refused to charge suspiciously close to the end of the warranty, then died completely. <br><br> I got the TX earlier this week, and so far it's a great handheld. The battery life is much better, whenever I get a new camera, mp3 player, etc, I usually spend the first day trying to run the battery until it is completely dead...this time it took me a while, I only used the wifi a little, and even then it took me a good chunk of the day to get it down below 50%, so expect over 6 hours of music playback, less with video (probably around 5 hours), but don't count on those numbers with heavy wifi usage. The screen is great, I managed to load some pictures onto it and an episode of "Monk" onto the memory card. The audio quality is also good, better than the T|E. <br><br> I was pleased with the wifi; there are a lot of fairly well-off families in the small town I live in, apparently all with Wifi routers, so I can get a signal almost anywhere. <br><br> My only complaints: The missing home icon in the Dynamic Input Area was somewhat annoying. I'm just not used to having to press a hard button to get to applications, so I blindly tapped at the corner of the screen a couple of times when I forgot about the change. I downloaded a MySkin free trial, which will still allow me to put a home icon on the status bar even after it expires (the SharkTXfix, which is freeware, is unavailable for a while)...so, that problem is fixable. <br><br> My second complaint is about stability. I downloaded an old version of the free AIM for palm, and managed to get it to log on a couple of times, but then my handheld froze and I was forced to do a soft reset. It showed the two startup screens, then shut off and flashed them again....and again... and again. This was somewhat frightening... I did a hard reset, and it started up fine. I then hotsynced it and restored everything, but was forced to remove AIM.prc from the backup file and hard reset again because it continued the loop-of-death when I restored all my data the first time. This approach worked, so I'd advise caution when downloading the free version of AIM for palm. Other than that, I haven't had any compatibility issues. <br><br> So, overall the TX is a great handheld. I think it's a good value. Stability is okay, there's a few minor issues there, but the other features make up for it.

5 of 5 Better Than I Expected! Thursday, February 23, 2006
Tim from Asheville, NC
This device is great! I added a 2Gb-66x-SD card from SanDisk to store my mp3 files and it plays them great! pocketTunes is a must have and it syncs with Windows Media Player. The screen is beautiful. I was worried it would look worse than the Axium's 640x480 but it's not really a big deal. The WiFi works very, very well with super downloads. I didn't realize I could sync up over WiFi instead of using the cord or cradle to that's a bonus.

5 of 5 Great Value Wednesday, February 22, 2006
A Customer from Louisville, KY
This is my second Palm. My first was the IIIx that came with 8mb of memory. I used it for 2 years and never again. I went back to Palm after disappointments with others and this pda is great. The wifi is a snap to setup and the speed and web interface is quick. The bluetooth with the Razr was a breeze to setup and being able to dial a contact from the Palm TX is a wonderful feature. The battery life is questionable right now but since I have been playing with it non stop and trying all the internet and bluetooth options I think I may be having a huge effect on the battery life. I will update with normal use. Highly recommend

5 of 5 Excellent Device Tuesday, February 21, 2006
EV from Atlanta, Ga
This device is perfect for our application. It is PALM which allows us to use our existing PDA software. It has WiFi for faster Hotsyncs. It has Bluetooth, which allows us to use the Zoom 4300 modem for Hotels w/o WiFi. Don't need a phone so this fits the bill!

4 of 5 The best PDA - but not perfect. Tuesday, February 14, 2006
A Customer from NY, NY
This is simply the best PDA to date of any market, but not yet perfect. If you are a power Palm user not in need of a phone, this is the device to have. It is fast and feature rich, but it is not overwhelmed with useless gimmicks. The display is great quality. I do not use it for multimedia much, so cannot comment there. There have been some issues with the cable connector not making good contact - then having to cancel sync and restart. In general this connector is too difficult to attach and remove. Battery life under normal business usage is great. WiFi works well enough. Primary complaint (in addition to sync connector) is that the unit should absolutely be sold with a fitted screen protector (not have to scissor cut) and a half descent cover/case! The display is essentially unprotected with the flimsy/does not fit too well cover. Value is reduced by having to purchase overpriced screen protectors and cases aftermarket.

5 of 5 beats pocket pc's any day Tuesday, January 17, 2006
Alex from Monroe, NY
This palm is the best I've seen. I have previously owned a Palm E2, which wasn't bad (except I needed wireless). The Palm TX offers so much for such a small price comparitively. One of my relatives has a pocket pc and he's had problems with it since day one. The Palm TX runs programs not only faster, but more stable. The main problem, I believe, with pocket pc's is the sync program, which happens to be made by microsoft (need i say more?). Palm's sync program is much simpler, and allows a more variety of programs to run. Also, the palm OS doesn't suck resources like windows mobile. Overall, I am very satisfied with this product.

5 of 5 What a great little gizmo! Thursday, January 12, 2006
Sammie from La Jara, Colorado
The new Palm T/X is really neat. It is so much nicer to use than my old Palm M130. The screen is very clear and easy to read - being able to shift from vertical to horizontal is great. I love the new area for writing - it is lighted and very easy to see. You can see the strokes as you make them. Today, I tried connecting to the internet with the WiFi when I was in town shopping - parked quite far away from a coffee shop that has free internet and it connected very quickly and very well, too! I was really pleased that it was so easy to do. This really is such an improvement over my Palm M130. I installed Scrabble, Yahtzee, Battleship and Bejeweled and they all work fine and are so much larger and clearer and easy to see and play. I can't believe such a neat little gizmo is so inexpensive.
