OXX Digital OXX540026 Classic Internet Radio - Black

This radio is literally the answer to my prayers. I've been wanting to connect to international radio stations via the internet, but constantly having to leave my laptop open and running, combined with a need for less laptop memory strain prevented me from simply streaming radio. This radio required 5 minutes of setup. It's incredibly easy to get started with it, and it literally guides you through the customization process. I have it hooked up to my WiFi connection, though it can also work through an ethernet cable. There is NO charge to listen to the radio, EVER! No fees at all! I find this little gadget incredible, in light of all of the subscription radio/satellite services. Besides, it is quite aesthetically pleasing, I think. Can't beat this price! I'm in love!

I posted an earlier review on the OXX radio and we are still very happy with it. At that time I had not enabled the wireless feature, because normally setting up wireless options is a hassle. I had some spare time yesterday and I tried it and it was much easier than I expected, and it works VERY WELL! There is a wireless setup wizard that detects available networks, all you have to do is enter the security key. A screen appears that shows: 0123456789ABCDE<[picture of a little arrow]C. This cryptic looking display is used to enter the wireless security key. It was not so bad once I figured out the following: 1) If the character you want does not appear on the display, continue to rotate the Select dial clockwise until it does. When the cursor is underneath the desired character, press the Select knob. 2) The symbol "<" means delete the last character, useful when you make a mistake. 3) The [picture of the little arrow] means "Return" or "I am done entering the key". 4) The capital C at the end means "Clear the entire entry". The only other thing to be aware of is that the radio does display the security key after it is entered, it does not change it to all asteriks like most programs. After entering the security key, we can now move the radio around the house, and it works great.

I bought this for my wife so she could listen to Internet radio stations. I plugged it into our wired network and it was working less than 60 seconds later. I didn't read the manual but just scrolled through the menus and was able to find a classical music station in another 60 seconds. So 2 minutes after I plugged it into our network, we had high quality classic music. I will agree that it is not the most awesome sound I have ever heard, but you can plug it into external speakers, which I did and the sound quality is pretty good. If you don't like using the knobs and buttons to search for stations, you can register it with the web site that is supported by OXX, for free and search using a web browser. All you need is the serial number on from the radio. The web application downloads the selected stations into a Favorites folder on the radio. But the real good news is that my wife likes it and uses it. We have set 4 preset stations for her and she likes the fact she doesn't have to boot up a computer to listen to music from all over the world. I am going to buy a second one for my office.

O.K., I was a bit skeptical especially for the almost giveaway price. However, this radio is absolutely incredible. The sound is crisp and clear considering that one can be listening to radio stations on the other side of the world. If you want even higher quality you can use the headphone jack on the back of the unit and buy an inexpensive splitter to connect to your stereo system. Initially I thought that the lack of presets (4) would be a real hindrance. However, if you go to http://www.wifiradio-frontier.com (page 29 of the manual) you can literally set up hundreds of your favorite stations. These stations in turn will show up on the radio's menu dial as electronic presets. It's a snap to access them. The only negative is that I haven't figured out if it will access Pandora (still working on this). Even so it's not a deal breaker as there are thousands of other options. I listen to this radio every night and it has a convenient sleep timer. For the price, you will not be disappointed.

This little radio is amazing as it clearly has been designed by someone who knew what they were doing!. I love that it works as a standalone device meaning that you can access over 10,000 radio stations and podcasts from around the world via your wireless connection or an Ethernet connection without having to pay a subscription. This means that it works independently of whether your computer is on or not. Amazingly, the OXX also plays radio, podcasts and works as a clock radio and can stream your media including play lists from your computer. And it so easy to setup! Navigating the OXX radio is a breeze thanks to a wheel and menu system that is very similar in logic to what is found on an IPOD. Sound is good, but don't expect high fidelity. The radio has a mini-jack output so it can easily be hooked up to external speakers or your stereo if you want to improve the sound. My only gripe is that I would have liked to see few more than the 4 memory preset buttons on the front . The radio automatically makes a playlist of the internet radio stations you have played recently and you can import a list of your own favorites via the Frontier Silicon Radio. These can be accessed via the menu. So the problem of only 4 presets is really a small issue. I hope OXX will have success with this product. It is an innovative and unbelievable bargain if you want access to your favorite podcast, internet radio stations and have a media server built into a small user friendly package.

This is a fantastic product. I can listen to all the radio stations I want from Boston, MA, NY City/NJ, and Buffalo, NY. I can also listen to Car Talk using their podcast service. When you purchase the product, you retrieve a code from it which allows you to manage your stations online at Frontier Silicon Radio Portal. The sound is great. The performance is great. My only complaints are about using it as a standard clock radio. It doesn't appear to have a battery backup. So if you lose power, the alarm won't go off, as near as I can tell. The buttons aren't backlit, so they are difficult to use at night which is when I listen. Also, you have to navigate through the menus to set the Sleep function. This is a bit of a pain at night in bed. It would be nicer to have a single button you could press and hold to set a sleep timer, like a standard clock radio. For that reason, I gave it a "4" on ease of use. But other than these "clock radio" type features, I'm totally satisfied and think this radio is worth twice the price.
