Genetically superior gladiator placed in the lowest caste on his planet at birth escapes before the government can correct their error by killing him, and trespasses in his escape on a planet owned by a rich nobleman obsessed with discovering God. The nobleman's deal for the gladiator's freedom is that he must obtain 5 psychics from different planets and bring them to the nobleman's planet where they will meld their powers in a contact attempt. Each psychic's planet has its own sub-plot. The assembled group is fantastic, with psychologically charged interactions and fascinating individual personalities.
