Editor's Note
In 1976, four prominent Tropicalia singers, Caetano Veloso, Gilberto Gil, Maria Bethania, and Gal Costa (Veloso and Gil had only recently returned from exile after the Brazilian coup of 1969) went on tour in Brazil with their artistically and politically vibrant brand of Bahia-based music; the concert led to the famous album and documentary OS DOCES BARBAROS. In 2002, the four reunited to perform their daring and wild style of Tropicalia. This release captures their two live concerts in Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro and includes fascinating footage of the group reuniting, clips from the 1976 documentary, and interviews where the members of the group discuss their involvement and relationship to the politics and sounds of Tropicalia.
