This compilation brings together an eclectic mix of major-label and up and coming artists stepping forward with powerful recordings about freedom, dignity, and honesty -- all to benefit the International Gay & Lesbian Human Rights Commission (IGLHRC). Rare tracks from U2 and Throwing Muses are included, as well as contributions from Everything But the Girl and Billy Bragg ("Sexuality") which were previously released but take on new life in the context of this album. Many of the tracks were recorded live at New York City's Knitting Factory. Highlights include tracks by Betty ("Kiss My Sticky"), Voice Farm, Judybats, Girls in the Nose, Disappear Fear, Melissa Ferrick, and Indigo Girls. An assortment that ranges from the odd to the bizarre, this benefit CD provides a unique listening experience reminiscent of the experimental programming of college and public radio. ~ Will Grega
