| | | A romantic comedy about letting go! Features: DVD, Aspect Ratio 2.35:1, Dolby Digital (5.1), French, Dubbed 24-year-old Carla (Juliette Lewis) has, after years of special education at a private boarding school, successfully exceeded many of her limitations, except one--her over-protective mother (Diane Keaton)! When Carla falls in love, she and her boyfriend (Giovanni Ribisi) set out to experience life and its great adventures. The hilarity begins as Carla's mother learns to accept her daughter's growing independence. "A must-see film!" NBC TV "...a slick romantic comedy..." Walter Addiego, San Francisco Examiner
 Editor's Note
Juliette Lewis and Giovanni Ribisi perform admirably as developmentally different young adults who meet and fall in love. As the friends and family of the challenged, the supporting cast shows plenty of the expected love, support, and well-meaning anxiety, but also some refreshingly realistic impatience, frustration, and embarrassment.

| | Professional Reviews | New York Times "...A beautifully acted love story....THE OTHER SISTER has a core of integrity..." 02/26/1999 p.E16USA Today "...Lewis shines; she hasn't been this good since 1991's CAPE FEAR..." 09/17/1999 p.12E San Francisco Examiner 0 of 10 The scenes between Carla and Danny are pulled off with skill; the characters are sweet and remain just this side of mawkish. Even their slow and tentative discovery of sex, which could have been an embarrassing mess, is handled with humor and delicacy. There's a particularly nice running gag involving Danny's love of watching The Graduate, and how it affects his view of the world...Juliette Lewis and Giovanni Ribisi are given plenty of room to display their talents as the young lovers... - Walter Addiego Box Office Magazine 0 of 10 A pleasing romantic comedy that might have easily strangled on its own goo, Buena Vista's The Other Sister>/i> adroitly sidesteps most of the sugary traps inherent in the story of a young mentally challenged woman struggling for independence and finding love, thanks to impressive performances that are both touching and funny. - Luisa F. Ribeiro

5 of 5 "The Other Sister" reviewed by a 13 y/o Thursday, August 08, 2002 spunkychickadee from Sikeston, MO
I think this movie is very funny yet touching. The actors have everything down as playing the mentally challenged people. Its even better if you know someone mentally dissabled because you know that people actually do go through things like this and its hard. In my opinion this movie is worth watching and well worth your money. Was this review helpful?
