Richards addresses the anxiety over parenting that many women face, in a book that mixes memoir, interviews, historical analysis, and feminist insight. Speaking as both a parent and a leading feminist activist, Richards encourages women to forge their own path while staying true to their ideals.

Brenda Garrision from Seattle, Washington

I just read an advance copy of this book. Richards makes some interesting points about how to manage motherhood and the rest of life, but they seem basic, not much new material here. I wasn’t crazy about the way it is written either—a kind of memoir, reportage blend that made the read disjointed, I couldn’t get a grasp on her true feelings because she was always waffling shoring up her personal comments with political statistics. Maybe I just wanted something more personal... On the same topic, I would recommend recent memoirs like Waiting for Daisy by Peggy Orenstein and Baby Love by Rebecca Walker. While Richards is billed as a young feminist leader, her perspective feels old-maybe because of her close ties with Gloria Steinem (she’s worked as her personal assistant for over a decade). Not a waste of time, but I wouldn’t run out to buy.
