How Do We Compare?
When you buy the Ooma Telo for $249.99, US calls won’t cost you a dime, and international calling is ridiculously cheap. We’ll pay the taxes for the first year, but after   that you’ll have to pay an annual recovery fee of $11.75 to help cover some government-mandated fees. And, yes. We think those fees are ridiculous, too.

Your one-time purchase of an award-winning Ooma system gives you free home phone service. You'll also get the voice quality and ease of a traditional landline. That's because we’ve architected the Ooma system to partner with your existing home phones and high-speed Internet to deliver state-of-the-art calling without monthly bills.

No tricky calling codes to enter. No need to log onto a computer. Just pick up your home phone and dial. It’s that easy.    If you want to use one of our Ooma Telo Handsets, you have the option of doing that as well to unveil more of Ooma Telo’s features.

And for those who demand more, you'll get a 60-day free trial of Ooma Premier, so you can test-drive all of Ooma’s innovative features, like multi-ring, blacklists, virtual numbers, enhanced voicemail, and much more.

So if monthly bills are weighing you down, the answer is simple. Break free with Ooma.

5 of 5 No problems setting it up Monday, December 07, 2009
Panther in the Den from Chicago, IL

I just went through the setup process and there were no problems at all. The instructions were clear and the service came up as promised. I am waiting for the porting of my land line and we will see how it goes once that is up and running. I am looking forward to dumping AT&T!

5 of 5 cost effective way to keep home phone Friday, November 27, 2009
steve from osining, ny
If you have reliable high speed internet service and are looking to keep a home phone # for cheap Ooma is probably one of the best ways to go. It is easily setup - plug it into your cable modem and router using the simple diagram. Go to their website to create an account. You can choose a new phone # or port over you current number for a fee. If you go with a new number you will be ready to use it in minutes. For me the quality has been nearly as good as my cable company's phone service was and since I have a reliable high speed internet service I've had no phone service issues in the 2 months I've been using Ooma. The quality is good, faxing has not been a problem, no need for a computer other than to manage you account or any special phone handsets. I have an all-in-one printer/fax that I plug the phone line from Ooma into then plug the phone line out into the main base of the 2.4GHz wireless handsets I have. You can listen to voicemail online, using your phone by calling into voicemail like you would your cell phone or just pushing play on the Ooma device like you would an old fashioned answering machine. The best thing is there is no additional cost once you buy the box - all the main features you'd expect are included like voicemail and caller id. If you want some of the extra premier features such as 3 way calling, special rings, block lists, etc. you can get that for just $9.99/month. Their website lays out the included features and the premier features. I was asked about hooking up a home alarm since I do not have one I did not look into this but sure its on their website and if not just ask them. I tell people try it and if it doesn't work for you then just return it. Overall probably on of the best cost effective ways to keep that home phone.

4 of 5 Setup was a hassle Tuesday, November 17, 2009
A Customer from Illinois
So far the only problem with this unit was setting it up. The limited instructions provided and available online were confusing, misleading and even wrong. It took several hours and 3 three phone calls to technical support before I finally found someone that knew what they were doing. After that all went well. Seems to work just fine once connected.

5 of 5 Advance Features / Less Money Saturday, October 24, 2009
A Customer from Chicago
Ooma offers more for less. I have the older style Ooma base and the remote Scout. Being skeptical at first I kept my landline as a backup for a couple months, to make sure Ooma service worked. It did. I then signed up for their premier service that runs about $15 a month, offers a second line, and some cool advanced features you can configure from your computer. With both Local and Long Distance supplied by Ooma I am now saving about $25 a month, so my breakeven will be in around 9 months. Ooma customer service has been excellent. Now, if they could come out with a multi-line version, I still have phone lines that I have to pay the phone company, and Ooma only allows 1 line per router.

5 of 5 TELO / HUB / OOMA REVIEW Tuesday, October 13, 2009
A Customer from Ft.. Lauderdale, FL
I have been a customer of OOMA for over a year. I have owned MagicJack and played with Vonage and of course the Bell system. Originally, I was concerned about the longevity of OOMA. But at a savings of $40 a month compared to Bell, I took the plunge. You do the math. I broke even after 7 months. Second was the call quality. It's internet dependent so bandwidth can be an issue, but not if you let IT control the house bandwidth by putting it FIRST in line, before your router. I haven't had a problem since I did that. It is land line equivalent. Outtages are few. Maybe once in a year for an hour or so. Connections are perfect 99% of the time. I also now own Telo. It's a bit of a different concept. I have two scouts with the HUB. Telo uses handsets to duplicate the function of the scouts and those aren't out yet... but the call quality is identical to the HUB with some pretty flashy lights and touch switches instead of push switches. Interesting USB port on the TELO (support charging?) and talk of support for blue tooth. And, obviously, it acts as a base station for cordless handsets without having to plug a handset base into it. COST: There are some costs associated with this beyond the hardware purchase. It will cost you about $120 a year. (yes, $10 a month) to get all the features including a second voice line and second phone number. The "Core" services (telephone dial tone with caller ID) will cost $12 a year or so if you don't want the second line, etc. Check to see what you need and the break even point. Just do the math. OOMA appears to be charging forward and not in any hurry to disappear. VONAGE is expensive and you keep paying LOTS ($25 a month minimum). MagicJack is computer dependent (OOMA and VONAGE are not). I let my one year subscription expire with MagicJack. I wish I hadn't spent money on it. It's good as an emergency phone, but with a good Cell plan... who needs it. Cable company voice comes out to be $25-30 a month when you calculate their discount disppearing. So if you are looking for dependable and inexpensive VOIP home phone service, OOMA is the best and least expensive as far as I am concerned. It takes a 6-8 months to break even, but.. I plan on using a land line for a bit longer than that. I can't wait to buy a couple of handsets.
