In a stunning dual role, international action star Jet Li portrays Gabriel Yulaw, a police officer confronted with a sinister form of himself escaped from an advanced, parallel universe and intent on killing Gabriel. His alter ego's hunt culminates in a fateful battle between good and evil that changes Gabriel's perception of reality and forces him to examine the evil hidden within himself. The One features riveting martial arts and innovative special effects. "This film is incredible. The best fight sequences I've seen since Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon." Jermaine Linton, MTV Radio "...Jet Li shows you some incredible moves" Desson Howe, Washington Post
 Editor's Note
THE ONE is based on the futuristic premise that there is more than one universe: there are many parallel universes, each of which contain a slightly different version of every person who has ever lived. Yulaw (Jet Li) is a rogue agent from the Multiverse Bureau of Intelligence who has learned that, by traveling from one parallel universe to another and killing the alternate versions of himself, he gains his counterparts's strength, speed and intelligence. After killing one hundred and twenty-three parallel versions of himself, Yulaw has gained almost unstoppable power--and there is only one version of himself left, Gabriel Law (Jet Li), a Los Angeles cop. Yulaw travels to the universe that houses his nemesis, followed by a pair of agents intent on stopping him from killing Gabe and either gaining near-Godlike powers, or destroying the fabric of all existence. Gabe is confused to find himself being hunted and shot at by himself, but with the help of his wife, T.K. (Carla Gugino), and the Multiverse cops (Delroy Lindo and Jason Statham), Gabe engages Yulaw in a series of spectacular fights to become the One. Glen Morgan and James Wong, creators of FINAL DESTINATION and several memorable episodes of THE X-FILES, direct this mind-bending martial-arts extravaganza.

| | Professional Reviews | Entertainment Weekly "...Li, as always, kicks and leaps and twirls with razory grace..." 11/09/2001 p.83Sight and Sound "...THE ONE charges at breakneck speed towards an extended climactic fight....Jet Li remains one of modern cinema's most astonishing physical performers..." 05/01/2002 p.50-1 Total Film "...Wong adds real muscle to the high concept with a string of truly excessive action sequences....It's like an insane Japanese Manga flick in live action..." 05/01/2002 p.96 Chicago Sun-Times 5 of 10 The movie offers brainless high-tech action without interesting dialogue, characters, motivation or texture. In other words, it's sure to be popular. Seeing a movie like this makes me feel bad that I applied such high standards to last week's Donnie Darko, which also deals with logical paradoxes, and by comparison, is a masterpiece. - Roger Ebert James Berardinelli's ReelViews 4 of 10 The concept of alternate universes has fascinated science fiction writers through the years, forming the basis for a number of fascinating books, television episodes, and motion pictures. But, as Hollywood has often illustrated, the seed of a worthwhile idea does not necessarily germinate into a compelling motion picture. Such is the sad case with the latest Jet Li vehicle, The One, which represents bad action, worse drama, and excruciating science fiction. The film is adept only when it comes to crafting visually arresting images, and that's hardly a good reason to spend 80-odd minutes in a theater. - James Berardinelli
