5 of 5 Great quality but expensive Saturday, March 07, 2009
A Customer from Fremont, CA

Pros: The obvious: 24/96 PCM recording, uses AA batteries, has reasonably good quality built-in stereo speakers, line-in and headphone out. Takes external SDHC cards (upto 32GB I believe). Subjective: Build quality is very good (outer case). The analog part (stereo mics and amplification) is excellent - you can get better than CD quality recordings in a good environment, even with the built-in mics. User interface is simple and has specific buttons for each action (a great relief from Apple-like UIs or use of menus for everything); so, it is also fast and you don't need to read through the manual first. Rec. level is via a dial-in knob, mic sense and low cut can be selected via switches. Uses AA batteries - no need to spend $$ to buy replacement/backup batteries. Battery life is good - I've barely used it figure out how long it lasts though; good enough that a pair of batteries last through a few hours of recording. DAC and analog section for playback are also excellent - so doubles up as an MP3 player. I could hear recording hum (on an pair of Sony MDR-NC40 headphones) on Eric Clapton - Unplugged version at the beginning of Layla. The UI (as expected) is simple: cannot list songs without stopping the current song. Also, all music has to be in one of the 5 folders that it expects to see in (but, there is no initial indexing done like some other MP3 players - a relief). If you already have music on an SD card, you'll have to first insert the card on the recorder to let it create its folders (automatic), then move all your music to one of its pre-created folders and insert back to the recorder to playback. Again, the volume control is an old-fashioned knob - a big relief from soft buttons and wheels. No Windows drivers needed: plug in to the USB port and it shows up as a drive; a big relief again compared to MP3 players. Nits: the SD card goes face-down (counter-intuitive) and a bit hard to insert and remove. The device must be powered on to detect SD card insertion. Cons: Expensive. AC adapter not included. No ability to charge rechargeable batteries directly on the device (not a biggie).

5 of 5 Amazing little device Tuesday, February 24, 2009
A Customer from Seattle 02/2009
This compact recorder/player has exceeded all my expectations. It has functionality beyond our everyday needs and we are using it to listen to audio books, record and listen to live music, record voice memos, play audio files from a variety of sources, etc.... While clearly not for everyone due to its relatively high cost (buy.com had the best price), when you consider the quality of the recordings and the robust storage capacity of this amazing little device I would not hesitate to give it my unqualified stamp of approval.

5 of 5 Great recorder Monday, January 19, 2009
John from Panama City, Florida
I am a violist in college and I use this to record lessons, lectures, practice, and to make audition CDs. The quality of the built in mics is surprisingly high. You would have to spend about 250$ to get a better quality mic and even then you could plug into this device. Recording quality and expandable SD slot ensures that this will be useful for years. Reverb options are limited and device is a little heavy with batteries but those are small gripes.

5 of 5 Great unit, best bang for the buck Tuesday, August 12, 2008
A Customer from Kingwood, TX
I have several other MP3 encoders, 2 track, 4 track, 18 track, etc portable digital recorders. I wanted something for 2 purposes: 1) Recording business meetings easily with good internal mics and preamps. 2) Recording live bands directly via line in or via mics. This unit works well for both. The literature didn't explain well my only concern, and that was about the auto record level. The unit have a mic sensitivity switch hi/low, that Hi is great for speaking and low is great for a live band setting. In either position, you can use the manual record volume (with or without limiter), or the auto record level (really compresses music, best for voice). The build in speakers of course are not great, but good enough for assuring you're getting what you want. The record level monitor works well for my needs. I made the right choice with this unit!
