| Oh! Gravity is Switchfoot's sixth studio album, their third for Columbia Records. After 2003's double-platinum selling, The Beautiful Letdown, and another two gold selling albums, Nothing Is Sound and Learning To Breathe, Foreman sums it all up by saying, "I'm in therapy and I write songs. It's all an attempt to try to come to terms with reality."

Although the band has never completely pulled away from its Christian roots, the record's themes are not blatantly religious, giving the group a remarkably broad appeal, as best evidenced on the guitar-driven title track, a surging power-pop tune, and "Dirty Second Hands," a bold number awash in Beatles-meets-Led Zep grandiosity. While some fans may continue to search for Switchfoot's CCM connections, most listeners will be too busy rocking to notice. | Producer: Tim Palmer; Jon Foreman; Steve Lillywhite; Tim Foreman; Chad Butler; Jerome Fontamillas; John Fields; Tim Palmer; Steve Lillywhite | Engineer: Tim Palmer; Jon Foreman; Tim Foreman; Chad Butler; Jerome Fontamillas; Chris Testa; Joe Marlett; John Fields; Steven Miller; Ben Moore |

 | CD Review: Switchfoot's Oh! Gravity By: Brendan Butler - Cinema Blend CD Reviews Published on: 12/28/2006 | | Switchfoot yet again offers some inspirational tracks, asking us to find meaning in our lives, to live better lives and to be better people. Whether we do it simply for ourselves, for our families, for our friends or for God is really every individual's prerogative. If it takes an alternative rock band from California to remind us to try every now and again, then so be it. ...read the full review |

| | Professional Reviews | | Spin (p.94) - 3.5 stars out of 5 -- "OH! GRAVITY is their liveliest record, full of dive-bombing guitar fuzz, juicy arena-alt choruses, and the art-rock ear candy Chris Cornell favored in Soundgarden."Entertainment Weekly (p.81) - "[S]urprisingly fun: Switchfoot have vastly expanded their stylistic palette, moving from leaden post-grunge into Stones-like swing..." -- Grade: B- Alternative Press (p.119) - "[A] sparkling, focused album bursting at the seams with giant hooks and even bigger ideas." Rolling Stone 4 of 10 On its last two albums, San Diego quintet Switchfoot was a faceless Christian band turning out largely forgettable alt-rock -- albeit largely forgettable alt-rock that managed to go platinum. With Oh! Gravity, Switchfoot up their game on a handful of bright songs. Tunes such as "Amateur Lovers" suggest a ballsier Cheap Trick with a dose of contemporary-radio gloss. Jon Foreman is a decent lyricist -- his earnest philosophical observations are occasionally insightful, and he usually avoids overt preachifying -- but his unremarkable rock-dude voice can't carry lesser, sludgier songs. And forgettability is still a problem: Several tracks -- whether inspirational stuff like "Awakening" or darker cuts like "Circles" -- are about as generic as today's radio rock gets. Beats the crap out of Creed, but still.
