| | | "HD-DVD - Hi-Def Picture, Hi-Def Sound." Features: DVD Heists, hijinks, and hilarity seep into every element of this spectacular trilogy from director Steven Soderbergh. Hollywood heavy-hitters George Clooney, Matt Damon, and Brad Pitt star in three films based on the 1960 Rat Pack classic: OCEAN'S ELEVEN, OCEAN'S TWELVE, and OCEAN'S THIRTEEN!OCEAN'S ELEVEN: The plan is set. The rules are clear. If all goes right for Danny Ocean's grifters, the payoff is $150 million. Divided by 11. You do the math. The skill of Academy Award-winning director Steven Soderbergh combines with enough starpower to light up the Las Vegas strip in this classy caper. George Clooney plays Danny, defying the odds in a split-second heist of three Vegas casinos - all owned by a magnate (Andy Garcia) who is dating Danny's ex-wife (Julia Roberts). A fixer (Brad Pitt), a pickpocket (Matt Damon), a blackjack dealer (Bernie Mac), a flimflammer (Carl Reiner) and others in well-defined roles are with Danny. Are you in or out? OCEAN'S TWELVE: They're back. And then some. Twelve is the new eleven when Danny Ocean and pals return in a sequel to the cool caper that saw them pull off a $160-million heist. But $160 million doesn't go as far as it used to. Not with everyone spending like sailors on leave. Not with Vegas big-shot Terry Benedict out to recover his dough. And not with a mysterious someone stalking Danny and crew. It's time to pull off another stunner of a plan - or plans. With locations including Amsterdam, Paris and Rome, the direction of Steven Soderbergh and the original cast plus Catherine Zeta-Jones and others, Twelve is your lucky number. OCEAN'S THIRTEEN: It's bolder. Riskier. The most dazzling heist yet. George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon and more reteam with director Steven Soderbergh for a split-second caper that stacks the deck with wit, style and cool. Danny Ocean again runs the game, so no rough stuff. No one gets hurt. Except for double-crossing Vegas kingpin Willy Bank (Al Pacino). Ocean's crew will hit him where it hurts: in his wallet. On opening night of Bank's posh new casino tower The Bank, every turn of a card and roll of the dice will come up a winner for bettors. And they'll hit him in his pride, making sure the tower doesn't receive a coveted Five Diamond Award. That's just the start of the flimflams. The boys are out to break The Bank. Place your bets! "[12] Infectious fun." Jim Bernard, New York Daily News "[13] An over-the-top celebrity cartoon of cool and a tilt-a-whirl of fun." Mark Bell, Film Threat "[11] ...one expertly made piece of pure, unpretentious popcorn entertainment." Michael Dequina, Film Threat "[12] Sure-fire entertainment. This is a big, swinging party with a can't miss guest list." Michael Wilmington, Chicago Tribune "[11] ...a scrumptious and dizzy-spirited lark...the sheer speed and cleverness of the caper hits you like a shot of pure oxygen." Owen Gleiberman, Entertainment Weekly "[13] ...continues the breezy good times of the first two series entries without missing a beat." Todd McCarthy, Variety

| | Professional Reviews | ReelViews 8 of 10 [11] The good news is that the 2001 version of Ocean's Eleven represents one of the rarest of Hollywood rarities: a re-make that is actually better than the original. That's not to say that this motion picture is an unqualified success - one tends to expect a little more from a director of Steven Soderbergh's caliber. However, 2001's Ocean's Eleven moves along at an enjoyable clip and relies on more than the notoriety of its stars to pack movie theaters. The 1960 original was a sluggish, unimpressive caper comedy...When producer Jerry Weintraub, director Soderbergh, and actor George Clooney elected to re-make Ocean's Eleven, they rectified some of the earlier movie's glaring faults. So, while this is a re-make in the sense that it borrows the 1960 picture's title and premise, there are many, many differences, almost all of which represent improvements. - James Berardinelli Reel.com 8 of 10 [13] The first two movies in the Ocean franchise offered a large ensemble of stars but not much else. Ocean's Eleven tried to revive the Rat Pack bonhomie of the 1960 original, but came across as just another Hollywood package deal and the camaraderie seemed forced. The troupe gallivanted across Europe in Ocean's Twelve, which must have been a nice holiday for the cast, but the story was such a snooze that it was a chore for the audience to sit through. But back in Las Vegas for the third and possibly last installment, the franchise has lost the distaff member of the crew, Julia Roberts, but finally gained its footing. It may not be perfect, but with Ocean's 13 director Steven Soderbergh and his cast have at last delivered a truly effervescent caper comedy...But mainly, on this third try, the ensemble finally completely gels. Clooney's easy-going charm still paints him as the leader--let's face it, he is the one would probably would have been in the real Rat Pack back in the day. Yet, this time out, it is almost a ceremonial title, because Danny is only one element in a well-oiled machine. If this is the final Ocean's movie, saving the best for last is a wonderful way to go out. - Pam Grady Chicago Sun-Times 8 of 10 [12] "Ocean's Twelve" does not disappoint. Tess Ocean (Julia Roberts) is chatting on the phone with her husband Danny (George Clooney) when she looks out the window and says, "Oh, no." Terry Benedict (Andy Garcia) is ringing the door bell...One of the problems with a movie like this is directing traffic: How do you establish 11 characters (not counting Benedict, police inspector Catherine Zeta-Jones, rival thief Vincent Cassel, etc.) and keep them alive? You have a roll call every once in a while is what you do, or you have them thrown in jail so the camera can pan across their faces and remind us who they are. Occasionally you have a scene for no other reason than to get an actor's face on the screen for five seconds, so he will not be misplaced. Elliott Gould puffs on his cigar three different times for this very reason...Rather than describe some of their other targets, such as a priceless jeweled egg, I will observe that all of the targets are MacGuffins, that it matters not what they go after but how they do it, and what they say in the process. The movie is all about behavior, dialogue, star power and wiseass in-jokes. I really sort of liked it. - Roger Ebert
