| | | Can the most famous film star in the world fall for the man in the street? Features: DVD, Aspect Ratio 2.35:1 Anna Scott (Julia Roberts) is the world’s most famous movie star. Her picture has been plastered on the cover of every magazine, and every time she makes a move, the entire world knows about it. William Thacker (Hugh Grant) owns a travel bookstore. His business is stagnant, he has the roommate from hell, and since his divorce, his love life is completely non-existent. For both, something or someone seems to be missing. And when Anna and William’s paths unexpectedly cross in the eclectic neighborhood of Notting Hill, romance is the last thing on their minds. PolyGram Films and Working Title Films present Notting Hill, the charming romantic comedy which proves that love can spring from even the most unlikely of circumstances. "The Best Romantic Comedy in Years!" CBS "Hilarious" Newsweek "...the dialogue has wit and intelligence..." Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times
 Editor's Note
Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant forge memorable chemistry in this charmer about two very different people--William, an unassuming bookstore owner in London's Notting Hill section, and Anna, a Hollywood actress--who, against the odds, fall in love. After Anna wanders into William's shop while filming on location in London, the two share an instant attraction and find themselves attempting to forge a normal relationship despite Anna's megawatt star power. Screenwriter Richard Curtis (FOUR WEDDINGS AND A FUNERAL) has crafted a traditional romantic comedy that is surprisingly frank in its depiction of the lives of the rich and famous and the price they pay for success.

| | Professional Reviews | New York Times "...This role gives Ms. Roberts a lovely opportunity to poke fun at her own situation..." 05/28/1999 p.E7USA Today "...NOTTING HILL doesn't just refresh. It's deadpan wit, ingenious fairy-tale premise and superbly accomplished cast will leave you feeling positively oxygenated..." 05/28/1999 p.1E Los Angeles Times "...NOTTING HILL is a smartly cast and consistently amusing romantic comedy..." 05/28/1999 p.F1 Chicago Sun-Times "...The movie is bright, the dialogue has wit and intelligence, and Roberts and Grant are very easy to like..." 05/28/1999 p.30 Total Film 4 stars out of 5 -- "A warm, romantic film for a rainy day, as Grant and Roberts play mismatched lovers....Their star quality here never waivers." 12/01/2007 p.89 Leonard Maltin's Movie & Video Guide 7 of 10 Enjoyable romantic comedy is a complete contrivance, but so smoothly done, and so engagingly performed, that you don't much mind. James Berardinelli's ReelViews 7 of 10 Getting Roberts to play Anna is a case of perfect casting, and one has to wonder whether she felt a sense of dŽjˆ vu going through scenes where her character is grilled and hounded by the press. Roberts is one of a few actresses who can be luminous in almost any role...

1 of 1 customers found this review helpful. 5 of 5 ONE OF THE BEST Sunday, January 02, 2000 MAMLLER from INDIANAPOLIS IN
THIS MOVIE WAS EXCELLENT. IT'S ONE OF MY FAVORITES. YOU WOULD THINK IT WAS A CHICK-FLICK, BUT IT'S QUITE HILARIOUS WITH THE ENGLISH ROOMMATE OF HUGH GRANT'S. AND EVEN HUGH GRANT IS PRETTY FUNNY AND AFTER SEEING HIM IN THE NEWS SO MUCH, I WAS RECULTANT, BUT NONE THE LESS, I LOVED IT. I RECOMMEND IT! JULIA ROBERTS IS A DOLL AS ALWAYS. THIS IS BETTER THAN THE RUNAWAY BRIDE. Was this review helpful?

5 of 5 Wonderful Film Wednesday, November 10, 1999 Daniel from Los Angeles, CA
This movie was one of the best movies I've seen all year. I'm sure we've all had fantasies of bringing someone home that surpasses all expectations of those around you. This film focuses on that dream and gives hope to all those who dream of meeting someone famous. The plot was predictable but well written. Overall, I highly recommend this film.
