5 of 5 Works great with no slow down. Wednesday, June 17, 2009
A Customer from Mesa, AZ
I left Norton three years ago to try the newest versions of McAfee and Trend Micro on my company computers (small business with three laptops and one desktop). They all do the job well to some extent, and everyone can argue which one is more effective, but the bottom line is that NIS2009 does it without slowing down the system. The way it updates definitions is simply genius - it's amazing no one has ever done it this way before. Wait for the three user license deal on Buy.com and get this under $40 and you can't go wrong. Stop nitpicking over the small feature differences in all the different protection suites - they all work, but NIS2009 does it quickly, efficiently, and in a user-friendly way. Just get it already!

5 of 5 Norton went from millstone to milestone! Saturday, May 23, 2009
Rick Gargurevich from Georgetown, CA
Ever since the internet came on the scene, I've used Norton Antivirus. It used to be the best. Then, gradually, it got more and more invasive and by 2000 or so, it bogged my system down so bad, I had to get rid of it. It was excellent at stopping viruses, but my Pentium ran like a Univac. I swore I’d never go back. I tried McAffe, PC-cillin, and a few others and eventually stayed with AVG for several years, until v8.0 came out. Then, it too had to go. Since a firewall and anti-spyware products are mandatory, I originally chose ZoneAlarm, which seemed to have the most security and flexibility. They were the only ones that had a “Leak Test” on their website that could get through most firewalls, demonstrating that theirs was the best. I used it for about 8 years and got used to the occasional pop-ups, asking me to allow or deny access to one thing or another. Then ZoneAlarm came out with their Internet Security Suite, which rolled everything into one affordable package covering 3 PCs. I needed different anti-virus software anyway, so I bought it, figuring that life would be much easier, but I was wrong. The pop-ups from the firewall became constant, even though you would check the box to make a “rule”. One day, streaming audio would work, the next day, it wouldn’t. My system would occasionally disconnect from the internet for no apparent reason. It was starting to get to me. They had telephone tech support when I bought it, but discontinued it shortly after! That was the last straw. I discussed my frustrations with several computer-savvy friends, who couldn’t understand why I wasn’t using Norton. I told them of my previous experience with it, but they all swore it had gotten better. I read several reviews on Norton and they all agreed it was a better product, so I decided to try it again. BEST DECISION I’VE EVER MADE! I had it set up in 5 minutes with no problems whatsoever. I didn’t have to change any settings. No more pop-up questions. My system actually runs faster than it ever did with ZoneAlarm. Bootups are faster too. You don’t even have to schedule virus scans at night anymore (even though you can), since it does the system scans only when the computer has been idle for several minutes. If you come back on, it pauses the scan until the computer is idle again and eventually finishes the job. This is genius. There’s plenty of flexibility to change settings and plenty of info about any threats it finds, but for the most part, you never have to pay attention to it. The firewall successfully makes its own rules, WITHOUT my help. It has never blocked anything that I want to get through. They also have telephone support, which I’ve never needed to use. I haven’t been this satisfied with security software ever. BUY THIS, YOU WON’T REGRET IT.

5 of 5 Better Than Previous Versions Tuesday, April 28, 2009
Cluxroy from Cville
I tried this version on 1 computer an it worked much better than previous versions ( I used 2003 and 2006, these were dogs). I now use Norton on 4 computers at home and 1 at at a small office that I administer. I recommended it- as long as Symantic does not screw it up again.

5 of 5 Very improved product with less drag on system Saturday, April 25, 2009
M. Graham from Villa Hills, Ky.
Two years ago I used Norton 360 for my PC and I was very satisfied with it. Last year I switch to McAfee Complete Security Suite and was happy with it at first, but it started sending me a renewal notice with a loud annoying chime 6-7 months before my subscription was up. I tried to get it to stop but couldn't. Even family members complained of the noise, it was that annoying. The 2009 Norton Internet Security was #1 rated by PC Mag an I wanted to get away from that renewal warning so I went with Norton again. This is a very improved product and doesn't drag the system down (like a lot of security programs do). From all the security I've used, this is the best most unabtrusive I've ever had. I highly recommend it. Read the reviews in PC Mags, they all recommend it as well.

5 of 5 So far so good Tuesday, April 21, 2009
A Customer from Honeoye Falls, NY
I've been avoiding Norton recently because of its terrible reputation for being bloatware and difficult to install and uninstall, but so far I have been very pleased with Norton Internet Security 2009. The install was very painless. It seems to be unintrusive, with minimal impact on system performance. The firewall is richly featured, in case you need flexibility. Very nice!

5 of 5 Better than previous versions Monday, April 20, 2009
stan from west orange, nj
Previous versions suffered from huge CPU overhead and very slow overall system response. This version is a pleasure with some new features that actually add value. One thing to keep in mind: This package requires that things like SystemWorks (also from Symantec) be Uninstalled before NIS can install. It would be nice if Symantec would either Uninstall its own software or make it very clear that the user needs to do this first. All in all, installation was not that bad and I'm very happy with the actual use. And at a great price - now I have all my computers protected and up to date for the cost of a single user package. Nice.

5 of 5 Norton Internet Security Monday, April 20, 2009
Robert S. from Colorado Springs, Colorado
I have been using Norton's Internet Security since 2004 and I can not think of using any other Security Suite to protect my personal documents. Easy to use and there are no conflicts with the programs I use to create DVD's or music disks, watch movies, and run office programs.

5 of 5 Excellent Product Monday, April 20, 2009
A Customer from Incline Village, NV
Finally I decided to get protected, and chose Norton. Very easy to install, immediately scanned my computer and removed a couple of viruses I didn't know I had. Now it automatically checks for updates from Norton. Doesn't seem to slow my computer at all. Bottom-line is that I feel protected.

5 of 5 Best version of NIS so far Sunday, April 19, 2009
Venuopal Kande from Fremont, CA
After years of running Norton Antivirus products, with ever increasing demands on system resources, as well as slowing down the machines these products were installed on, the completely rewritten version of Norton Internet Security 2009 has gone a very long way towards correcting years of bloatware code that was made worse with every new release. This version installs fast, runs fast, and is almost entirely unobtrusive, with one very major exception. This software will break your home or small business network. In a well-documented bug first discovered in October 2008, Norton interferes with, and eventually blocks access to other machines on your home network. Norton admits there is a problem, and has been stalling customers for months with promises for a fix, yet keeps pushing the release date out further and further. Install Norton 2009, and eventually all of the computers on your home network under My Network Places will disappear, and will eventually be blocked from access. While you can frequently manually reach your other networked machines by typing their addresses directly into an address bar, software that depends on access to your other networked machines directly (index, backup, small business collaboration tools, etc.) usually cannot work this way, and you are effectively cut off from using those applications. Worse, over time, Norton will begin periodically cutting off access to your networked machines. Suddenly file copying between machines fails, extremely long delays in accessing other computers on your network occurs, and your frustration level mounts. Norton admits the only current solution to this problem is to completely uninstall Norton 2009 Antivirus/Internet Security products. There is no other workaround. Worse yet, the responsiveness of the company to major software bugs has been less than acceptable. It literally takes months for even the most urgent bugs to get identified, corrected, and then put through a laborious test procedure. To add insult to injury, it then takes up to six additional weeks for the fixed code to be incorporated into their slow update release schedule and finally reach every customer. This truly mars an otherwise promising product and makes it an unacceptable option for those dependent on networked machines, such as a home or small business network. If you are dependent on your network to access remote hard drives or collaborate in an office environment, Norton 2009 products are absolutely not acceptable for use and I strongly recommend you look elsewhere until the company finally fixes the problem.

5 of 5 Norton Internet Security 2009 -- Much Faster! Tuesday, March 31, 2009
David from Lincoln, IL
I've used Norton products for years but they always slowed down the computer and often conflicted with other programs. NIS09 is the first product to actually work the way you'd want a security program to work. Updates are frequent and quick. Scans are faster. And best of all the program doesn't ask you all kinds of questions constantly that it should know itself. Highly recommended.

Symantec got it right with the introduction of Norton Internet Security 2009. Finally a firewall/antivirus product that loads fast, does not hog resources and is easy to use. Buy.com had a Great price on NIS 2009 3 user version. It was well worth the money.

5 of 5 Much Improved!! Sunday, March 29, 2009
Kent from Lincoln Nebraska
The last Norton product I used was 2006 and it bogged my system down TERRIBLY! At that point, I gave up on Norton entirely. NIS 2009 does not do that. Plus I like the "silent" scans and the "pulse" updates. It's ALWAYS up to date!! GREAT PRODUCT!!

5 of 5 Norton has finally figured it out Saturday, February 28, 2009
Lee from Charlotte, NC
Based upon use on 5 PC's for 3-4 months: I've been using a variety of the major security apps for my 5 home computers for many years. Each year it seems someone else comes out on top in the reviews. I've used Norton, including the recent and quite horrible Norton 360, Trend Micro (PC-Cillin), Zone Alarm, Kaspersky, McAfee. Given how much I truly hated Norton 360 (slow, unstable, buggy, unable to control when/where it scanned, poor interface for advanced users) or how intrusive ZA is (and likely to block me from doing needed work), I am really enjoying Norton Internet Security 2009. It is fast and unobtrusive. 360 was so bad that I uninstalled it on all of my machines within 3 months and installed ZA Security Suite. Norton 2009 is excellent. I've purchased (2) of the Norton 2009 Suite 3-user packs to support Vista and XP machines, both laptops and desktop, after reading very positive reviews on the newly found speed and clean install. I installed it after de-installing ZA Security Suite (with Kaspersky AV) and it installed on each machine in the 55 sec to 75 sec range. The logging works, the interface is vastly improved (but not yet perfect). I still have to dig a little bit to do certain things and would really appreciate more options available with a right-click on the system tray icon, such as Block Internet Traffic, enable/disable Firewall, etc. That said, it's certainly the best all-around package I've used in the past 10 yrs. Note: I do not use the email Spam filter, so I cannot comment on how well that feature works. I have an effective spam filter on my mail server so a PC-based one is not needed.

5 of 5 Great Product Thursday, February 19, 2009
A Customer from Sterling Heights, MI
I had abandoned the Norton product several years ago because it was so slow and intrusive. This year, however, I decided to switch from my current product (ZoneAlarm) for the same reasons. I returned to Norton because I read that it had been completely rewritten and was now nimble and effective. I have been extremely happy with the product so far. It is very unobtrusive yet it does everything I would expect an internet security suite to do (spyware / virus protection, firewall, identity protection, spam handling, etc.). Its interface is clean and easy to understand. I highly recommend Norton Internet Security 2009.

5 of 5 Greatly Improved -- Here's How... Sunday, February 01, 2009
Dr. Electrode from Spring Mills PA
As a PC professional in our area, I serve hundreds of home users and dozens of small businesses. NIS 2009 is the only software that has effectively blocked every threat. Others, even older versions of Norton AntiVirus have on occasion failed to block an attack. Also the 2009 version of NIS is completely re-written so that it is not the resource-hog that the previous versions were famous for. It installs quickly and works in the background without constant pop-ups or false positives.

5 of 5 works like it is supposed to Sunday, February 01, 2009
A Customer from Asheville, NC
I didn't have any problems installing over the old version as some people have posted, so I am happy. I was surprised it did not import my previous firewall settings for programs so I had to go through again and reset them up, but other than that it appears faster than the old version and seems to be working great.

Due to the garbage product and total lack of help and support I had 2 machines down for 4 days because their product did not work as advertised. PC Magazine rated Norton a Best Buy and the review said that Norton finally got back to what made it famous in the first place. Nice tight code and a minimum drain on the resources. Not like Panda or Kaspersky slowing down the PC to a standstill while it was performing its magic. I avoided Norton for years because of a similar bad experience with them. I guess that they finally listened to all the negative reviews and put out an excellent product. My advice is to avoid Panda like the PLAGUE and install Norton as soon as possible.

5 of 5 Excellent Product Wednesday, January 28, 2009

The NIS software is easy to setup and use. Protects your PC. I have used NIS and/or McAfee for almost 10 years. I strongly prefer the NIS. I believe the 09 version is noticably more effecient and less discruptive than previous versions. I am disappointed the cost seems to go up...but that is my only issue. I have found it at an excellent bargain at times.

5 of 5 Improved Monday, January 19, 2009
A Customer from Carbondale, IL
I've been a user of Norton/Symantec AV products since the first Norton Desktop for Windows. This new version is an improvement over the last few. My computer isn't bogged down at bootup because of it. As much as I've always been cautious of "set and forget" solutions, this one is pretty slick.

5 of 5 Super Fast! Thursday, January 15, 2009
A Customer from Washington, DC
I've always stayed away from Norton because my machine comes to a grinding halt many times while the scanner is protecting my machine real-time. I tried the trial for 2009 and I must say, it's hardly using any of my resources/cpu at all! This version may make a believer out of me...

5 of 5 Norton Internet Security 2009 Is GREAT! Saturday, January 03, 2009
Dick from Danvers, MA
This product works very well and is very easy to install and use. I did do some research in order to determine which product to purchase and this one was always either on top or near the top. Symantec has been building products like these for many years and it is well worth the purchase.

5 of 5 Norton Internet Security - 3 User Sunday, December 28, 2008
A Customer from Fountain Valley, CA
Great deal on Black Friday for only $35 for a 3 user license. This version uses much less memory, less disk space and seems to tax the processor less, spreading it's CPU needs over more time. Much better than the 2006 version I was using.
