Norton Ghost™ 14.0 protects your computer with advanced backup and recovery.
Norton Ghost™ 14.0 protects PCs—including all applications, settings, folders, and files—with advanced backup and recovery. It provides powerful protection with new features such as offsite backups and Symantec ThreatCon integration, as well as enhanced performance, one-to-one remote management, LightsOut Restore capability, and more. With Norton Ghost 14.0, you have a choice of backup types: full system (disk image) or specific files and folders. Backups include encryption and error checking to help keep your data safe, while compression, incremental backups, and automatic backup file management minimize storage space. Plus, you can now copy recovery points to a FTP site for easier offsite backup management. Norton Ghost 14.0 is ready whenever you need to recover, whether that involves restoring individual files or an entire system. The Software Recovery Disk allows you to start your computer, scan for viruses or hard disk errors, and start the recovery process even if your operating system won’t start. With the advanced tools included in Norton Ghost 14.0, you can take data protection to the next level. One-to-one remote management backs up other computers on your network that have Norton Ghost 12.0 or higher installed, and LightsOut Restore lets you install the Software Recovery Environment on your hard disk so you’ll always be ready to recover. And now you can also take advantage of up-to-the-minute intelligence from Symantec’s industry-leading Internet security research organization by having your backups automatically triggered whenever ThreatCon reaches a specified threat level.

Features
Full system backup (disk image)—Backs up everything on a hard drive or partition
File and folder backup—Backs up only the specific files and folders you choose rather than saving an entire drive
File backup search—Finds and backs up specified file types such as photos, MP3 files, and documents
Incremental and differential backup—Backs up only files that have changed
Customizable, event-based backup—Triggers backups based on key events such as new program installations or sudden increases in data storage

System protection—Recovers your system and data even when you can’t restart the operating system.
EXCLUSIVE!: Google Desktop™ integration—Makes data recovery even faster with searchable backup indexes

5 of 5 Still the best Tuesday, May 19, 2009
Dave from NYC

I have been using Ghost through all its versions, even before it became a Norton product. The ability to make an image of all partitions, even the one where the OS is, while it is running, ensures easy connectivity to any backup device. New features are nice, and basic functions are still solid. Always reliable, I can get back to a point in time with a full image copy quickly regardless of the kind of disaster.

5 of 5 Norton Ghost 14.0 Works Great!! Monday, May 11, 2009
A Customer from American Fork, UT
Performs EXACTLY as promised. 100% restoration of all programs, documents and settings. I had read several negative reviews prior to buying the product. However, since the 'IT Guy' where I work recommended the product I decided to give it a try. Since the program offers multiple options, I was a bit confused as to which option would allow me to make an exact image of the hard drive on my computer. I read a lot of instructions before making a best guess as to which option would work for me. Fortunately I guessed correctly and I have an exact copy of my hard drive. I have used it twice and each time my computer has been 100% restored to exactly the restore point I previously created. NO MORE WORRIES about viruses. I can 'go back in time' before the virus infected the computer.

4 of 5 Restores applications as well as OS & data Monday, May 04, 2009
Paul Teter from Albany, GA
Ghost restores not only the Windows operating system and your data but also all your applications. When I restored from the Windows operating system backup program, it failed to reinstall several applications. The ability to recover all applications fully and not have to reinstall them makes Ghost worth the price. I copied my hard drive to a spare new hard drive, however I can't get the destination hard drive to boot the PC. I imagine Microsoft has something to do with this, somehow preventing the copying of the OS to another hard drive. If you know how to make the destination drive bootable, would you please let me know. Thanks.

5 of 5 Norton Ghost 14 Thursday, March 12, 2009
David Wasmundt from Dallas Oregon
I like Norton Ghost 14 for its reliability. I am extremely pleased with the service I received from Buy.com and will definitely buy from them again. I have made at least 4-5 other purchases from them and have always been pleased with both the price and the service. This time I received my software in 2-3 days and at an excellent price.

5 of 5 Norton Ghost 14.0 Wednesday, January 28, 2009
Larry from Las Vegas, Nevada
I had Norton Ghost 9.0. Not easy to work with. Norton Ghost 14.0 is very easy to work with. What I really like about it, is that when I start my computer a message comes up asking me if I want to back up my computer. I punch yes and follow the instruction. It is very easy to do.

1 of 5 Ghost 14.0 not user friendly Tuesday, January 27, 2009
A Customer from Knoxville,Tennessee
This program installed easily and seemed to be a great opetion. However when I attempted to creat a recovery CD I encounter proglems. The pro would just stop working and I found none of the button were active, so I could not go back to see what I may have missed. I aborted the operation and made sure the CD-W was available before clicking on the create function. the program went a little father but once again hung in the same manner. It seem that if the programs needs are not met it will hang, instead of giving a message stating " *** not availavle" and continuing once it's needs are met. I uninstalled the program and wrote it off as money wasted!

5 of 5 EXCELLENT PRODUCT Sunday, November 16, 2008
John from Boerne, TX
This is a very easey to use backup program and Norton Ghost 14 is a much improved over 10. It is a little pricey because of the need to buy a seperate license for each computer, but other than that no complaints. Buy.com's service is excellent, as usual.

5 of 5 GREAT PRODUCT AND EASY TO USE Wednesday, August 27, 2008
Ramona from Jonesboro, GA
This is the second series of Norton Ghost that I have owned and it is well worth the price. I had to buy another series to be compatible with Vista but I was sold on the old 9.0 series after using it once after a computer crash. Nothing like the ease of restoring my computer and being able to boot into a computer that would not boot on its own. I now store backups on an external hard drive which makes it easier than DVDs and I can schedule backups to suit my schedule or run one manually. The pease of mind is worth the money. It only takes one crashed computer to make a believer out of you.

1 of 5 Nothing but trouble Monday, August 25, 2008
A Customer from Muncie, Indiana
I had used Ghost 9.0 and thought that 14.0 would be great. I was wrong. LiveUpdate didn't work, and Ghost couldn't read my USB drives. Two different techs from Symantec spent HOURS with full control of my computer and could not get it to work. Frustrated, I downloaded Acronis Drive Image and just a few minutes later I was creating my first backup without trouble.

A Customer from St. Louis, MO
Bought three copies. Wouldn't do what I mainly bought it for (make bootable drive from backup) Wouldn't install and locked up one computer (repetitive reboot)which I finally fixed. Support non-existent

5 of 5 great Monday, August 04, 2008
A Customer from Western, MI
Next to Time Machine for OS X, Ghost is the best solution for home Windows users. I have it running on over 10 clients and have not had a problem with it!

3 of 5 fat32 problems Monday, July 28, 2008
A Customer from Oakland, CA
Though the tech specs indicate support for fat32, I was unable to get it to work with Vista 32 Home Premium and fat32 formatted NAS. Spent about an hour in discussions with someone in India before he finally said that Symantec suggests that the external drive be NTFS. The ratings above assume that Ghost will work when I try it with a NTFS USB drive.

4 of 5 Great, Easy, but... Monday, July 28, 2008
Karv from Birmingham, AL
My only problem with this software is its incompatibility with previous versions of Windows. My office has computers running Windows 95, 2000, NT, and XP. Thus, I was only able to backup one computer in the office. I just wish they would have made it more clear that it absolutely DOES NOT support any versions of windows other than Vista and XP.

4 of 5 Ghost is a great tool, but be sure to use it corre Saturday, July 19, 2008
A Customer from tx
I have been a user of ghost for many years. I started with either version 1 or 2. I have used them since it was a private company and before Norton bought them. It is a great tool, and will do what it says. The GUI is much easier to understand than the old dos interface from many years ago. The only caution I would give is to not use the 'files and folders' backup. I was doing this and then had a computer problem and lost my OS drive. The files and folders backup, can NOT be restored from the boot cd. Only an 'image' backup can be restored from the boot cd. Files and folders backup has it's place as long as you are not trying to restore the OS drive. In my case, everything had to be rebuilt and reloaded by hand. I could have saved myself a lot of time if I had just done image backups. For me, this is the only bug in an otherwise outstanding program.

4 of 5 Full system (disk image) copy should be simpler. Monday, June 30, 2008
A Customer from Wilmington, DE
Full system (disk image) copy was possible only after re-formatting the disk [to remove error message stating that the disk was locked by another process.] The User's Manual should have a detailed section on how to perform a full system (disk image) copy, including a full description of the "advanced" options. [In the good old days, the full system (disk image) was performed using a specially created Disk Operating System (bootable) floppy disk.] I was not able to create a Recovery CD -- lots of time wasted.

4 of 5 Good Product Monday, June 30, 2008
A Customer from SLC, Ut
I have used Norton Ghost to backup my computers for several years. Recently I had the opportunity to test the restore of my main system after a disk crash. It went very well and I would recommend this product to you. Just remember to read the manual.

4 of 5 Reliable backup Friday, June 20, 2008
pradhan from Chicago IL
I have used a number of different backup softwares and have come to rely on Norton Ghost. It is simple to use and dependable. The only drawback comes should you be loading it over an earlier version of Ghost. You should use Norton's Software Removal tool which is available on Symantec's site to completely remove the earlier version, and not Windows Remove Software function. This is the one consistant drawback I find in almost all Norton-Symantec products, i.e., they embed themselves too much and never remove cleanly. As a result, I refuse to use any other Norton product, save and except for Ghost. It has saved me many times from system disasters.

3 of 5 more of the same Monday, June 09, 2008
David Sirrine from Roanoke, VA
I'm a long-time user of Ghost (since version 6!) and I've recently been looking for a simple but powerful backup program for my home PC. This didn't turn out to be it. The interface is too complicated for non-techies, and the hand-holding is a little overbearing for techies. It's as ponderously slow as other recent Norton products, and I have yet to be able to backup my 120GB hard drive because it takes over 8 hours via *Gigabit* network! I'll continue using Ghost for drive imaging, but there are any number of free backup programs out there that meet my needs better than this rather expensive and complicated product.

4 of 5 Good Value IF rebates come through Sunday, June 08, 2008
Gripper from Minneapolis, MN
Value rating depends on getting the two rebates offered by BUY.COM. Otherwise I'm not sure it offers sufficient additional value to the system and file back-up capabilities included with Vista itself. The product installed with a minimum of fuss and operated fairly easily. It includes scheduled system backup, user file backup and drive image copying. Combined with a sufficiently large external USB or FireWire drive and one has a nice stand alone backup. My Vista system readily boots from the restore disk and both the internal and backup drives are accessable. A total assessment of performance will involve restoring the complete system to a freshly formatted drive. I am not ready to run that experiment yet. I'll need to buy an extra main-drive of sufficient size.

4 of 5 Many new features Sunday, June 08, 2008
Don from Port Ludlow, WA
A number of new features added, but some are not applicable for my backup needs and some I have yet to try. I've used Ghost for a number of years and it's basic functionality is pretty solid. Recovery from an image is freaky the first time you do it(Is it really going to work???), but has yet to fail me. Restoring individual files/folders, even from an image, is dead simple - always a desirable feature!

4 of 5 Not a bad product...But Saturday, April 19, 2008
Vincenzo from Muskego, WI
My main purpose for buying Ghost was to save an existing XP machine as a Virtual Machine for use with VM Ware before we received new Vista machines at work. The process was not as easy as I would have expected, but it wasn't that terrible either I guess. All in all not a bad product, and does do what it says it will do. This is one of those RTFM before you dive in products. And that again is not a terrible expectation. It just wasn't as intuitive as I expected

I have used NG10.0 before and it will not detect my SATA Laptop HDD when boot in to the CD to restore the system. This version has resolved that issue.
