1 of 5 Worst Camera Ever 3/4/2010
from Charlotte, NC
It looks like it would be a great camera but unless you have the hands of a surgeon, dont expect to ever take a decent picture.

3.3 of 5 This Cam is Ok... But not great 7/1/2008
from Manassas, VA
I bought 2 of these items.. one is working fine the 2nd one has some problems with settings.... after clicking you have to hold the cam still for few seconds till it gets saved.. If you move in between then the picture gets blurred. First time users cannot understand it ... Its a bit confusing cam... Hope it works good for you... Its was ok for me , coz i gifted them... the price was good... the people who i gifted complained me about the settings and pictures...

4 of 5 Good camera for the price 6/12/2008
from Auburn, AL
This camera will take great pictures outside in the sun, but the flash is awful indoors. The other people complaining about the pictures being blurry probably didn't turn on the anti-shake mode, the pictures hardly ever came out blurry with me. The menus aren't set up as good as some of the other brands of cameras, but you get used to them. I haven't been able to find a way to turn off the time and date from showing up on all my pictures, it wouldn't be as big of a deal if the font wasn't so large and yellow. The video quality is okay, and with a 2GB SD card you can take fairly long videos. Don't let the camera format your SD card, it will delete all your pictures. The battery life isn't very good. I would probably rather have a 6MP camera that would take better indoor pictures than this camera if I could find one as cheap, but its not a bad camera for the money, under the right lighting it takes excellent pictures.

3 of 5 Please look elsewhere 6/10/2008
Andy from Minneapolis MN
I bought this for my in-laws to replace their previous crappy 5MP digital camera and now feel it was almost a complete waste. I've pretty much always bought Canon for my cameras in the past but I saw this "deal" and just couldn't pass it up (it also had a perfect score from seven users-which after purchasing I looked closer and these "user reviews" were all people had just ordered it not any of them had actually USED it!!)Well lesson learned I guess. Anyway if ALL you do is use it for bright sunny outside pictures then this is very passable, but if you want any indoor pics then well sorry if you got hosed into getting this like I did as they suck.bad.

5 of 5 Replacement Battery Found 5/20/2008
John from Waterbury
Finally found extra Battery # for the two I bought. Not for $20.00 less. Depends where you shop. It's NP-900 Konica Minolta Cameras take the same battery Bought two at Meritline with free shipping Need a tripod to take half way decent movies no image stabelazation on movie mode. Who needs it got two movie cameras. Mini tripod a good extra to have. Bought 1 for $.01 4.99 shipping The 2 only cost me $68.94 with coupons and free shipping. Takes great stills compared to my MiniDVD Cameras. Tryed converting movies to VCD's waste of time. Sound comes out different than video on card or what was on the computer. Just store them on an external hard drive and play off computer. Thanks for telling me I can use an SCHC card too if I wanted up to 8GB. Have 3 2GB SC only get 43min. of movie time to each card before you have to put in a new battery and charge the other one anyway.

5 of 5 XIAS -- A Allrounder 5/11/2008
Karthik from Fairfax, VA
I got this camera in just 2 days even though it was a regular mailing option. XIAS is amazingly superb, it is as small as a mobile phone (blackberry) & comes with a pentax lens. A 8mp for this price is unbelievable. Picture clarity is more than expected. I had to order one more XIAS to my sister. Its a awesome package.

4.7 of 5 Great Value!!! Solid Camera! 4/30/2008
from Alameda, CA
I had a very nice Canon stolen about a year ago and was looking for a cheap replacement to fill in the gap till I buy another top of the line model. This fits that bill to a "t". Pros: Great value, Good pictures, Tons of features, Intuitive controls and easy to understand manual (read it!), Great design, Quick Charging Battery. Cons: Very poor flash - It takes great outdoor pictures with the flash off but the "auto" settings indoors or in low light are not good. Turning off the flash helps but in most cases you get very dark pictures indoors or at night, even with the flash on. If you plan on using this camera in those situations, learn to use the manual settings or you will not be happy with the pictures. Comments: I thought buying an SD card was a given! Some of you need to think for 2 secons before you post. One quirk of this camera, when you are viewing pictures, they will be preloaded in a lower (aka, blurry) resolution initially and then click into focus after about a second or two. Do not judge your pictures by how they initially look when you take them!

4.7 of 5 great deal 4/23/2008
Tony from nyc
So far so good. I purchased this camera with a 4GB SDHC ($20). Excellent value. With 4GB of memory I'm taking pictures of everything all the time. I haven't figured out how to play back videos on my pc. I'm pretty sure it's not brain surgery. I'm buying another camera and card for a friend today. He offered me $120. I had a fear of taking the $ and the camera was no longer available at buy.com. I'll keep playing with the camera. I have been looking at digital cameras for about a month. I probably had 5 cameras in my basket, but I couldn't pull the trigger on any of them til I saw this deal.

5 of 5 Great camera especially for a teen! 4/22/2008
Peggy from San Diego, CA
I got this camera for my 8th grader's trip to Washington DC. It came with a case, rechargable battery and a battery charger. We did not need to carry or purchase a bunch of AA batteries. It also came with software and all the cables, etc to download the photos. I immediatly bought a very large capacity SD card on-line for $7 total. My child took hundreds of photos on the trip with no trouble at all. It is pretty small and rather light weight so it was not difficult to carry it all day. We are very happy with this camera.

5 of 5 good camera for the price 4/21/2008
brouwersmd from Henderson, NV
Got this for $79 shipping included. Bought it for my 13 year old daughter as her first dig camera. She is still learning all the features but with the program mode (ie auto) set she can take most pictures just fine. Good quality so far for the price...you must get an SD card in addition or 8 megapixels gives you 3 pics with onboard memory

3.7 of 5 great price, frustrating indoor performance 4/6/2008
deadfoot from Queens, NY
I bought this for my son for his b-day and am not as concerned about the SD card and battery issues mentioned in other reviews. However, the indoor flash/steady hand "issue" is certainly frustrating. You can play with the shutter speed setting and sometimes get some better results, but it is tough to get a clear picture indoors. I'm willing to bet the camera is easily capable of producing great indoor pictures; but something is just off with however they programmed it. Proof of that comes with the outdoor shots, which are much much better, as well as the video which seems as good as on my wife's Sony. If I had to do it over I would have spend a few extra bucks on something that doesn't have the indoor problem.

5 of 5 Excellent Starter Camera 4/1/2008
NGM from Brunswick, Ohio
For a 1st Digital Camera, you cant beat the value for the price. Lots of bells & whistles, durable and not too hard to learn the menus. Gave it to my kid at college. Excellent for a Gift to someone in family. Walmart want's $130 for the 7 megapixel model that looks exactly same.

5 of 5 Awesome Camera 3/31/2008
Jeff from New Jersey
I was looking for a good camera that wasn't too expensive, but I couldn't find one cheaper than $200. Then one day I checked my e-mail, and there was this Buy.com announcement that said: "8MP digital camera $79.99" and I couldn't believe it. So I checked it out and ordered it and it's awesome.

It senses how much flash you need, which I like. I haven't made much use of the Video Mode. The microphone for video (or audio) mode is on the bottom, for some reason, but it still does a good job capturing sounds.

One thing I really like about the camera is that it doesn't make a lot of noise (I know that's a camera term, but I mean beeping noises). My old camera beeped every time I hit a button, and I had to turn the beep off every time I turned the camera on. Speaking of turning on, the camera goes on very quick and it's ready to go.

I think the camera bag could be a bit bigger. It seems like the camera is tight in it, and the inside is rough and rubs against the LCD. So, along with an SD card, you might want to pick up a camera bag.

The pictures come out great. You just have to make sure the flash is on. If you take pictures with it off, they might come out blurry, and it takes longer to take a picture. The battery's easy to charge. I think that's about it.

Great pictures, good video recording, lots of fun. Get a good SD card!

4.7 of 5 Good camera, GREAT price! 3/31/2008
Joe from Salem, OR
We have a little 2 year old girl who is into everything, including the innards of our old digital camera. So we wanted to purchase something quick and cheap and have found this Norcent Technologies camera to be a great pick up. The delay between pictures is a little long (although are $300 Nikon had a longer one, go figure) and the flash takes a little tweaking, but for $79, I don't think you will find a better shot. Day light pics are great and close up flash shots are clear. The red eye feature works well and the on camera editing features are surprisingly effective. We have messed with some of the pre set functions and have found a few that are very helpful but over all, the Automatic settings is usually best. The video camera is good, but you do lose sound when you zoom in while taping. We are pretty happy with this little camera.

5 of 5 Love it 3/31/2008
from Tulsa, OK
I have been trying to get a digital camera with all the best features but at a bargain and this camera is just that. At first I had trouble getting the camera to read the SD card, then after several attempts I found that you have make sure it "clicks in place" or the card is not all the way in therefore cannot be read. It also seems that a 2GB Sd card will not work in this camera. I am currently using a 1 GB and that works fine. Photography is my hobby and I have been using non-digital cameras for over 10 years so I know very well what a good picture looks like. This camera takes superb pictures but you have to read the manual and set it to meet your disired needs otherwise you'll end up with dark and noisy pictures.

4.7 of 5 A Great Camera at a Low Price 3/31/2008
Charles Guenther from Laguna Niguel, CA
At last, a digital camera with lots of special, easy to use features including anti-shake, red eye reduction, special effects, and an automatic mode among many others. My photos turned out very good for this camera. The biggest problem is getting to the right menu to select what mode to photograph in. The directions are very clear. And, the lens is a high quality Pentax. It is small and lightweight, so it can fit into a shirt pocket. You can also record voice clips as well as full motion videos with sound. This is a really good camera to consider when looking for an under $100 digital camera.

5 of 5 Great little camera 3/31/2008
tfowler from Washington, DC
I bought this camera to replace a Nikon Coolpix that was damaged. I like it much better! It takes great pictures, and has lots of nice features. Even at high ISO speeds, images are good. Videos are quite good as well, considering the camera's size. We took it on a trip to Mexico, and used it daily. Battery held up well--never even ran low during the day. I did purchase a padded case from Amazon, Targus Expedition Small Camera Case, which had a belt loop, for extra protection. The camera comes with a case, which is serviceable but does not offer as much protection.

4 of 5 A little hard to figure out 3/31/2008
from Morton Grove, IL
Not being a tech genius, it was a little hard to figure out some of the less-used features (even with the manual). Pictures sometimes come out darker than you would expect or a little blurry. But for cost, size and convenience, totally worth it. Looks nice, and you are getting at least what you are paying for, probably a little more.

5 of 5 Great Camera 3/31/2008
Jay from Mulberry, KS
Grabbed this camera on sale right before vacation to have a cheap "spare" and was really impressed with the photo quality and ease of use. The one downfall is that the battery runs down if you are trying to use the camera for an entire day of picture taking. All in all, this is a fantastic camera for the price!

3 of 5 Nice concept, doesn't work as well as you would ex 3/31/2008
from Highland Park, NJ
I was looking for a small compact camera, and considered this item, particularly because of the final price after discounts ($50). The finish is smooth and shiny - while looking nice, just accumulates fingerprints. The buttons for zoom and features are too small for adult fingers, flash performance is poor. The automatic light adjustment does not work well in all situations. It does not have an optical viewfinder, which is useful in very bright conditions when it is difficult to see the LCD. It also uses an obscure battery that cost $20 to purchase extras. It does take good pictures and videos, but I would look for something else.

3.3 of 5 Get your money's worth 3/29/2008
from New Haven, In
I thought this would be a pretty good camera, at a great price. Guess you get what you pay for. It does have a LOT of options and I haven't explored them all. I thought it had some internal memory, but apparently so little that you can't even store 1 pic. I have just purchased a 2 gb card for it, so I will be testing it some more to see if I can get some good pics out of this little beauty. It is very nice looking, but the buttons are really small.

Travis from Columbus, NE
Pros: Pretty nice loooking, like the mirrored finish. Easy operator interface. Great value. Cons: Rechargeable battery instead of regular AA's. Have to buy separate memory card. Need a steady hand or pictures come out blurry. Auto-Flash needs some improvement as far as light-sensing.

4.7 of 5 Great Camera 3/24/2008
. from San Jose CA
As everyone listed earlier, I was also hesitant to buy this camera. But I was getting it for 35 bucks (after using Revolution card), so I went for it. I also ordered 2 GB SD card for 5 bucks (using Google checkout). So i got all for 40 bucks, and here are my comments. For 40 bucks, you CANT GET ANYTHING BETTER THAN THIS. Camera looks great, sleek, stylish with great features. When there is sufficient light, it takes great pictures. Also took couple of videos of my 10 month old and came nice. (search for palavanchu in youtube, remember, youtube lowers the quality a bit than original) The only problem could be the battery, As everyone else mentioned, it is hard to find a replacement. As for me, I would use it as use and throw as long as the batteris last. I recharged for couple of hrs after receiving the camera, and it came for quite long time. (all my exploration of keys to learn camera, couple of videos, several pictures). Over all, I would say each charge lasts enough long and the charger is very quick and compact too. It has so many cool features to try. Over all, I am satisfied and I would recommend every one to go for it while price is so low.

4 of 5 Okay for the cost 3/22/2008
LVWelkin from Washington DC
Good: Looks slick, daylight pictures, ease of use Bad: Does not take good pictures when the backdrop is lighter than the object, i.e., taking a pictures of a person standing in front of a window, lots of picture noise at highest ISO (which is rather low anyway) Other: Contrary to a previous reviewer, the NP-900 battery is a perfect fit replacement battery. I ordered an NP-900 replacement battery from 1800eMart.com that was listed as 1000mAh, but 1200mAh is shown on the battery itself. I used it all day today and did not have any problems.

I bought this several weeks ago and agree with many of the other reviewers: the automated ISO selector does not appear to work correctly, since many of my initial indoor pictures were very dark and the flash did not come on. However, after playing around with the White Balance and Exposure settings, the camera takes excellent pictures. I also agree that a steady hand is required, but I am not going to deduct points for this since this seems to be a problem with many digital cameras. I just take several of the same pictures and one of them always is okay (that's why a 2GB SD card is needed as well). SD cards are dirt cheap these days, so $8 for a 2GB card still brings the cost to under $90. I have taken 125 8MB pictures since I bought it (2 1/2 weeks) and the battery is still loaded, so I don't have any issues with the battery. It doesn't take much mental activity to determine that anybody who needs to take 500+ pictures in one outing shouldn't have bought this camera anyway. The camera looks slick!, but fingerprints and smudges abound. In sum, I got what I expected and nothing more. Much improved over my 6 year old FujiFinePix 2600Z 2MP camera that I bought for $300.00 (Boy was I an idiot to pay that price!).

5 of 5 great camera! 3/19/2008
from Fort Worth,TX
very good camera for the money. the only thing i dont care for much is that it doesnt take standard aa batteries it has the battery pack that it comes with. other than that its great! but you will need a memory card but you would have to buy one with any camera. i bought a 2 gb card and it holds 800+ pics set on 8.0 mp.

4.3 of 5 About what I expected 3/18/2008
Jon from Reno, NV
When I saw this, I could only think: "An 8 megapixel camera for under $100? What's the catch?" Well, here's the catch(es). 1. An SD card (sold separately) is absolutely required. This camera ships with a memory that will hold two (2) 8-megapixel pictures. Then you have to erase them off the camera and start over. Obviously, I can't even use the video settings out of the box - so I can't vouch for how they're going to look. 2. Some of the settings are a little weird. When I first started using it, I immediately noticed that my pictures were too dark. The way to fix that, strangely, was to *disable* the flash. There was plenty of light in the room, but the camera somehow couldn't figure that out. 3. It requires a ludicrously steady hand. I set this thing on a filing cabinet and pressed the shutter button, and it set off the "Whoa, you're shaking me, it's gonna be blurry" alarm. And the picture was indeed a little bit blurry. I mean, it looked pretty good, don't get me wrong, but I didn't get the expected 8 megapixels worth of sharpness. You're probably going to need a tripod to get the most out of this. Still, those disappointments aside - it's still an incredible value for the cost.

5 of 5 Incredible Value and Quality 3/18/2008
Drewmb from Rochelle, Illinois
I was slow about purchasing an 8 mg pixel camera that only cost $80. I was concerned that the camera would function but that the lens would be cheap and therefore take lackluster or downright soft photos. What a surprise when I opened the box to find the lens was made by Pentax. The camera is a BEAUTIFUL metallic finish. The software is intuitive and the photos are definitely 8 mg quality. Quite astounding actually. I am so impressed that I kept wondering who I could buy one for as a gift.

4.3 of 5 A Good Camera for $30.00 3/17/2008
Kevin from Raleigh, NC
I bought this camera and signed up for the Revolution card through Buy.com, and I ended up net paying $30.00 with shipping for the camera. I have to say that the price was absolutely outstanding. The camera itself I find to be a bit slippery, so be sure to use the camera strap. Now about the SD card slot- As it says in the manual and on the webpage description, the camera takes an "SD" card, not an "SDHC" card. SAince the SD spec max is 4gb, that is the limit of the camera, although the tech support person said you could put up to a 8gb SD card in it. Problem is, non exist. So take this with a grain of salt. Official word is that "SDHC" is not supported. Oh yeah, the battery is proprietary when I asked the tech support person (at 909-305-2121 btw). You can buy extra batteries from them directly for $20.00 each and you must send payment first. Sounds a bit hokey if you ask me. Also hokey is that the website (www.norcent.com) does not have any information listed on this hot selling product. Caveat Emptor.

4.3 of 5 Great value. Lithium battery is potential low poin 3/17/2008
Angus McFleam from Ann Arbor, MI
A great value at this price. Camera/Manual: Camera is feature rich and easy to use with a large, clear screen and user-friendly menus. The buttons are a little hard to read because of their small size and very dark color, but are pretty intuitive once you RTFM (Read The Flippin' Manual) and play with the settings a bit. Speaking of the manual, the printed one is the typical muti-language edition and grammatically "Chinglished", but isn't the worst the author has seen. The PDF manual included on the CD with the software is for (what appears to be) and earlier and/or different camera model. Carry Case: The included case is sufficient to hold and protect the camera, but has no pockets to carry an additional SD card or other items. SD card storage: There is no indication in the manual that SDHC cards will work in this camera, and I have none with which to test it. It does accept a 2GB SD card, and, at that storage capacity will take over 500 photos at the absolute maximum resolution the camera can achieve. At minimum resolution (VGA), the number is huge - over 8,000. Battery - type/estimated capacity: Power is supplied via a removable Lithium Ion battery (3.7V, 820mAh). Battery and external charger are a potential low point here. The battery cannot be charged while inside the camera, so you are left with carrying the charger and cord around in case your usage needs exceed the battery capacity. Charge time was a little over 1 hour initially, and about 45 minutes at 1/4 to 1/2 battery capacity, as indicated on the cameras power meter. Fully-charged, the battery was good for a couple of hours playing with the settings, familiarizing with the menus, shooting some video, recording some voice and taking over 100 flash photos before reaching 1/4 battery charge per the camera meter - the camera was not indicating a charge was needed at that time. I didn't wait for it to exhaust itself, so YMMV. Battery - replacement/spare: I have been unsuccessful in finding a replacement/spare battery of this type. The Norcent website is absolutely useless and, in fact, doesn't even have this camera listed, let alone replacement batteries! I did find a battery at a local dealer that seems to almost fit this camera, although it is ever-so-slightly different dimensionally that it doesn't snap into place quite like the original, but the comapartment door does close. The camera did power-up with it in place though, so it may be the only choice for the time being. The model number and specs are as follows: BLI-269, 3.7V/800mAh. The dealer wanted $35.00 for the battery (yeah, right!), but a little research on the net has me thinking you can find one for less than $20.00. The one I tried was made by Empire. There are several BLI-269 model batteries on the net that list mAh ratings as 650, 700 and 800. I do not know why there are different ratings, but the one I tried was 800mAh and was dimensionally identical to the 650mAh one in the same store - they both "almost" fit and did power up the camera. They are listed as a replacement unit for a Konica/Minolta NP-900 battery. Bottom Line: For this kind of money, all things considered...Buy It!

flowdar from Allentown, PA
I wanted an "extra" camera to keep with me - it's great!! Once I read the instructions as to how to use the various controls (they seem to be different brand to brand!), I found it easy to use and it takes great pictures! I would recommend it to anyone.

5 of 5 An amazing value! 3/15/2008
Max B. from Chicago, IL
The pictures on this website do not do this product justice. The stock photos make the camera, in my opinion, look larger than it actually is. At about twice the thickness and a slightly smaller length and height than an 80GB iPod classic, this thing is exceptionally portable. The pictures look great for the price, especially when you turn on the anti shake. It isn't perfect for low light, but it can hold its own with a little adjustment. It has a pentax lens, probably one of their more budget ones. The specs are f=6.2-18.6 mm F=2.8-5.2. You'll absolutely need an SD card and I recommend something large like 8GB so you can store a few thousand photos. The video it creates is a bit grainy, but its a nice addition and something that really needs to be included to be competitive. It will due for a lot of things, especially when you're in natural sunlight. There are lots of cool little pre built settings like picture frames, sepia, black and white, animals, fireworks, kids, food, buildings, etc. With a little bit of learning this can be the ultimate portable point and shoot; perfect for somebody who isn't a serioud photographer but needs something that they can carry with them. Includes a carrying case with belt loop and rechargeable battery and charger, which is nice in the sense that you don't have to go out and buy a batteries, but bad in the sense that you can't change the batteries if you're out and about. I'd do some research and buy a second spare battery and carry it along. Overall, for $80 (Or less if you can find coupons; I paid $60) this is the absolute best deal you're likely to find, and the camera looks like it's worth a lot more than you'll pay for it.

4.7 of 5 pros and cons 3/14/2008
elias832 from Houston, TX
I think its a very good deal for the price, if not the best deal. I really liked the design, very stylish. The features include face detection, anti-shake, and many picture modes like building, video, kids, portrait, etc...
What i did not understand was, if it is really 16 mb internal memory, why can i only take one pic with 8mp super fine quailty, and only two with fine quality ? even tho i erased everything on it and reset it. Is one superfine pic 16mb ?!!! or is a defect?

4.3 of 5 Careful about buying SDHC card for this 3/7/2008
from Dallas, TX
I'm getting this camera for the price (5 rate) but somewhat concerned it may not be able to accept SDHC cards (SD High Capacity) that allow for greater than 2GB of storage. I'm not entirely sure but since I don't see the SDHC logo on it I'll assume not. Also, the Norcent website is useless. You would think they had a manual for their cameras to download. Gave them a (4) for everything else.

5 of 5 Gr8t product for a Gr8t price!! 3/6/2008
Kirit from New Brunswick NJ
I opened my weekly update email from BUY.com and found this superlative deal. Couldnt miss it. Being a student this price was a dream for the MP demand I had with my camera. I did a lot of research about other products from the company, and I ordered the camera without a blink of an eye... It has a SD card slot which means u r open to buy any size of card and u r perfect. The only problem I found with the companies camera's was a low battery life i.e. if u use a regular battery it will last for around 65 pics/ 45 with flash..so i ordered a 2 GSD card [$7 buy.com] and a fast rechargable batteries!! Grt deal guys.....go for it!!
