4 of 5 Ape Case 1000 needs a tad more flexibility Friday, February 01, 2008 A Customer from Littleton, CO
I have a Leica VLux-1 (same body as a Panasonic FZ50) that fits just fine in the case. The biggest problem is that the way the center divider works (it fits length-wise) in the case, the camera either has to be at the back of the case (harder to get to with the lid in the way), or at the front of the case (causing the case's base to tilt in towards my body). I'd like the case more if the camera could be placed into the case with the body pointed towards the outside, and the lens pointed directly towards my body, in the center of the case, so the whole thing would balance better. There's plenty of room, it just lacks dividers that go all the way from front to back. The divider they provide goes from side to side, then there are a bunch of half-sized dividers to divi up the narrow parts. Just personal preference, I suppose. My wife is a good seamstress, and I may have her do "surgery" on the dividers to make them work the way I'd like them to.
The case is well-built, and should last a long time. (It has a lifetime warranty, for what that's worth.) It holds the VLux-1, a large black velvet cloth (for backgrounds), the camera's lens shade, cables, manual, 4 batteries, SDHC cards, and still has enough room for my wife's Panasonic TZ3 and has some room left over.
I wish they had used less netting in the case, and more material. The netting catches edges of things (for instance, the manual) when they go in or out of the case. Overall, though, it's a good case for the money... a "keeper". Was this review helpful?
