Updating the popular N800, Nokia has made significant improvements on its predecessor with the N810 Internet Tablet while retaining much of what made the N800 such an easy-to-use mobile multimedia/communications device. The N810 augments the onscreen keyboard with a backlit, slide-out QWERTY keyboard, and it also adds a front-facing webcam, 2 GB of internal storage (expandable via memory cards up to 8 GB), and integrated GPS. Built to be constantly in use, you'll easily stay in touch with business associates, friends, and family thanks to its VoIP calling, instant messaging and email connectivity. And with stereo audio, multimedia support and a new ergonomic design, the Nokia N800 morphs into a portable Internet entertainment device, enabling playback of streamed and downloaded content wherever you roam.

The Nokia N810 adds a slide-out QWERTY keyboard that makes it easy to compose email and quickly chat with your online buddies.

In addition to Internet access and GPS, the N810 also offers wide compatibility for digital audio and video playback.

The 4.1-inch touchscreen has an 800 x 400-pixel resolution with up to 65K colors. You can access controls and an onscreen keyboard, or slide-out the physical QWERTY keyboard at the bottom for even easier typing. The N810 provides 2 GB of onboard flash memory and 128 MB of RAM. It also offers a single expansion slot that is compatible with Secure Digital (SD), MultiMedia, miniSD, and microSD memory cards with a size limit of 2 GB. (Adapter required for miniSD and microSD.) You can add up to 8 GB of memory when using Secure Digital High Capacity (SDHC) cards. You can also connect the N810 to a PC using the included USB cable to update software and transfer files from the PC to the a memory card.

For multimedia playback, the N800 is compatible with MP3 and WMA digital audio files, Real Audio streams, and video files encoded as AVI or MPEG4 (see specifications below for full compatibility list). The N810 has two integrated speakers as well as a 3.5mm headphone jack for personal listening.

The main form of connectivity is Wi-Fi (802.11b/g), and hooking up to a network is as simple as connecting with a laptop. You can also use the integrated Bluetooth wireless connectivity to hook up with a cell phone that is compatible with online data services. When connected to either a WLAN network or to a cell phone, you can make calls using the built-in Internet telephony application as well as conduct video conferencing with the built-in Web cam.

The Nokia N810 is powered by maemo Linux-based OS2008, which offers a highly customizable user interface and contains various features such as a Mozilla based browser with Ajax, Adobe Flash 9 and RSS feed reader, Bluetooth headset support as well as enhanced video and audio features. The refreshed Video Gizmo, Skype and Rhapsody applications highlight some of the most popular downloads available while Boingo Wireless, Earthlink and The Cloud enable Wi-Fi connectivity across thousands of different locations globally.

Perfect for use on the go, the N810 includes an integrated GPS receiver and comes with preloaded maps that enable you to browse detailed locations, search for street addresses, find various points of interest (POI) as well as nearby Wi-Fi hotspots. You can also purchase an optional subscription to the Wayfinder Maps application for enhanced mobile navigation.

Universal Plug and Play (UPnP)

Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) technology means that the Nokia N810 will discover, interact with, and control other compatible home electronic devices. This includes PCs, media centers, home entertainment systems, new smart appliances, home automation systems, networked peripherals, and Web-based services. With compatible equipment, you can stream video from your Nokia device directly to your TV, or hear music tracks stored on your PC through your living room's sound system.

As you will see and experience, the user interface gives you convenient access to the key buttons of your TV set top box remote. All the buttons are large enough to be operated with your fingers (or the stylus, of course).

As soon as you have tuned to the show you want to watch, tap once on your screen for a stunning fullscreen playback of your TV show on your Internet Tablet:

    N810 -2

The amazing audio quality of the built-in speakers or the headset will make for a most delightful TV experience far away from your sofa.

One-tap again on the screen and you are back to our friendly user interface to control your TV source. Choose one of the four modes at the bottom to bring up the corresponding remote: CHAN (for Channel control), FAV (for your Favorite channels), STB (for Set Top Box functions) and PVR (for Personal Video Recorder functions):

The CHAN mode allows you to enter the channel number you want to change to, onscreen, to go Channel Up or Channel Down with the arrows, or call on the Previous or Favorite commands of your set top box. The onscreen digit buttons come in handy if you don't want to expand your N810 keyboard, or if you have an N800 which has no keyboard
    CHAN Mode
The FAV mode allows you to assign your favorite channels to the 12 onscreen buttons. You can enter a text label or channel number to identify each of your favorite channels, or you can use channel logo buttons that you would create yourself or get from other users. Then, to switch to one of your favorite channels, just press the corresponding onscreen button.
    FAV Mode
The STB mode gives you access to the main functions to control a set top box: Menu, Guide, Info, Record, Page Up, Page Down, Last, Exit, List. In case, your set top box uses non conventional IR commands, you can specify them to enable them on your device. The 4 colored buttons can be also assigned any command of your choice.
    STB Mode
The PVR mode provides access to all the commands for Personal Video Recorder (PVR) if your set top box includes PVR functionality: Pause, Play, Stop, Skip Back, Skip Forward, Fast Rewind, Fast Forward, Info, Exit, Live TV, Record. In addition, you can also assign other favorite commands to the 4 colored buttons of this onscreen remote.
    PVR Mode

Another great feature is the Mute On/Off button in the top right corner of each onscreen remote. Someone barging in the room and you don't want them to know that you're watching TV? Press on that Mute Off button quickly...!

For the power-users or keyboard-mongers among you, many of the most used commands also have convenient keyboard equivalents like the digits, channel up and down, menu navigation, page up, page down, play, pause, stop, skip back, skip forward, fast rewind, fast forward, mute on/off, menu, guide, etc.

3 of 5 So close, but not ready for use Tuesday, June 30, 2009
    Eddie Mikell from Charlottesville, VA

I ordered a refurbed one of these. I thought, hey a little bigger than an ipod, and runs unix. Could it be the one? I returned it. It is slow to use. Even though it has a pull out keyboard, it is hard to use. The web browswer is a lot slower than the one on the itouch. If the price comes down to $99, it might be worth it. Other than that, save your pennies, and get a ipod touch...

Great piece of equipment, but I had to return mine for n exchange. Seems the button A and Z did not type. I am just waiting for the replacement. I think it was just an error at the plnt. For the 1 day I had it, I surfed the net site NOT requiring an A or Z button entry.......

4 of 5 Screen better than a phone, not as bulky as a netb Friday, June 26, 2009
    A Customer from Springfield, IL
Lets face it I'm a gadget guy. I wanted something better than my Blackberry for internet access but easier to carry around than even a netbook. I was immediately impressed with the quality and features but as I started to use it I realized Nokia appears to have given up on devoloping its total usefulness. I found there was more free Wi-Fi spots than I expected even around my town of 100,000. However, don't expect to be on the web while you're on the go. It is great for checking emails and internet sites but don't try to use it as a computer. The GPS is fine for general driving but you'll have to pay $120 (3yrs) to use the full navigation feature (i.e. turn here, distance to objective, etc.). With memory prices so cheap its too bad Nokia didn't install more for the list price they're asking. Also Nokia seems to have given up their own programs and here turned that over to 3rd party (mostly amaeturs). As a email checker I'm happy, GPS & Media so-so, everything else disappointed that Nokia didn't think it thru all the way. But still I'm happy for its original purpose email.

    3 of 5 A British import? Wednesday, June 17, 2009
    Garry M from Bethesda, MD
Assuming my experience here is not unique, you should know that if you buy this unit from Buy.com you will receive an N810 configured for the United Kingdom, not the United States. For most things this isn't a problem, but the Internet radio comes pre-configured for the BBC, and I have yet to figure out how to change that. As far as the unit itself is concerned: PROS: Keyboard is easy to use and the screen is bright and clear. CONS: Unit feels flimsy, internet is very slow (I used it on my home network sitting right next to the router), audio reproduction (even with headphones) is low. Oh, and I should say, the box appeared to have been opened before it was shipped to me; the contents were slightly jumbled inside. I can't say this is a bad unit because it works, but overall, I feel cheated.

gps navigation via carman is worth the price alone. instant video communication is worth the price alone. i bought the n800 a while back and had to get this gem. one minisd slot vs the n800's 2 sd:( i use the on screen keyboard more then pull out keyboard but nice to have the option. hacked the n800 to boot from sd slots, thousands of apps available! kismet, ettercap, wireshark, you name it, a powerhouse in your pocket. maybe too powerful? i honestly recommend this device to everyone, you just cant go wrong..

4 of 5 Works great, but too small Thursday, February 26, 2009
    A Customer from Rockford, IL
This pocket-sized Internet tablet connects easily and quickly, much better than my old laptop with a Wireless PC Card, and its use is pretty intuitive. Battery life between charges is remarkably good. My only gripe is the size. Web pages are shown in very good resolution, but the print is very difficult to read, because the type is so tiny. Having said that, the zoom feature does help a lot, but you see less of the page. Typing on the small QWERTY keyboard is a little tedious, but I'm sure I will get better with use. I find myself using the N810 when I want to look up something when watching a movie on TV, for example "What movie did I see that actor in recently?" If you really need Internet access from a device that fits in your shirt pocket, this fills the bill, but for a few bucks more, a solid state hard drive netbook would be much easier to use in many instances.

    5 of 5 Excellent! Wednesday, February 25, 2009
    greg from bismarck, north dakota
I have a co-worker who uses the n800 but I thought that I would prefer the keyboard. What a great purchase! I can't believe how much I use this piece of hardware. I have actually cut down on using my laptop at home as this is so handy to just grab from my pocket and look something up. The Linux OS is rock solid and the list of apps available is pretty impressive. I have struggled a bit with getting the GPS stuff to work with navigation but I need to do a bit more tweeking. You don't have to be a Linux geek to use this, it is so easy! (This is coming from a semi-Linux geek).

4 of 5 No video chat on Skype everything else great! Tuesday, February 24, 2009
    A Customer from Anderson, SC
I researched this unit for a while before I bought it. I like the fact that you can do so much with such a small device. GPS is decent maps are up to date. You can watch movies listen to music, internet radio, surf the web. Visit maemo.org if you need more software. There is a pretty good chance you'll find it there. Attention Skype cannot do video chat. Neither can Google Talk.

    4 of 5 Allmost there Monday, February 23, 2009
    A Customer from Bastrop, TX
I am going to keep this unit. It basically does what I need it to do. I primarily wanted this unit to listen to streaming audio from certain websites and it does that reasonably well. I can also do e-mail OK on it. I have not been able to get the FM radio to work. I tried out the GPS and I am not going to subscribe to the service. I do like the Webpage viewing better than the Blackberry or the I-Phone. I was already a Rhapsody subscriber and that service works OK as well. It has crashed on me a handful of times and likewise I often getting an out of memory message. It would be nice if it was more powerful.

5 of 5 Versatile and Flexible Saturday, February 21, 2009
    AmyX from Florida
I was fortunate to get in on Buys great deal and finally pick up a N810. I owned a N800 and was amazed at what it could do. After loading up OS2008 and adding things such as Canola, MPlayer, and Weather App, it was incredible at what you could do. I got so used to the virtual keyboad that the N810's slide out took a bit getting used to. Still can't double tap and get the Virtual to come out but I guess that's why there's the slide out. The N810 is great, the strong point is in it's BT V2.0 that allows faster cellphone web connection. I use ATT and with the N800 it definately was a bit slower and confirmed it was truly Edge. With the N810, things got a whole lot faster, felt more like 3G, a definate plus. The added plus is the availability of a Mugen battery than can extend the use time dramatically. The stock battery is ok, but these Mugens really more battery life. All in all, this is a fantastic device geared for pure portability, whether you are at the beach or at the airport. I have a Asus 900A that is really nice but trying to pull out one of those in a busy area is a hassle. With the N810, it's one push and the unit powers up in less than 40 secs and you are ready to browse, Skype out, read emails, or watch any movie you have loaded. Granted, at the moment, I can only find a 16gb miniSD but that should be enough for most people.

5 of 5 Semi-Palm Convert (only geeks need apply) Saturday, February 21, 2009
    Forty-something Gamer from Stockton, California
Exasperation with my Palm TX and its "screen drift" led me to the Nokia N810. Palm seems to be focusing on smartphones with no new dedicated PDAs in their lineup.    Enter the N810 with Palm emulation using Garnet VM by Access. Be aware that you won't be able to fire up something like ePocrates without first turning on the device, waiting for the boot sequence, starting the emulator, and finally choosing the application. Keeping the emulator running on idle still consumes battery power.    Although it has a hardware keyboard, the N810's isn't the most ergonomic. Emulating Palm in portrait mode uses the entire screen, but you have to type sideways. However, Grafitti 1 seems to work flawlessly with the stylus.    Wifi works very well, supporting 802.11g and WPA2 Personal. The default Firefox-based browser Microb is leaps and bounds better than the Palm "Web" application. Resolution is sharper and the zoom button magnifies. Navigation is via the 5-Way navigator or by dragging the stylus.    Don't count on the N810 replacing a dedicated GPS unit or Palm with GPS receiver. Because it lacks a SIRFstar III chipset, achieving satellite locks is painfully slow. The default GPS application only shows your location and names of surrounding roads. Optional Wayfinder service costs $120/3yrs (1yr is $110; go figure), With the free downloadable Maemo Mapper application, you have to pre-load routes while on Wifi. Adding "flite" utility gives voice synthesized "robot" directions. No re-routing if you go off course!    The remaining features are a geek's wet dream. A working knowledge of Linux helps to load free GPL/homebrew apps including Gameboy Advance and Neo-Geo emulators. You can even use a Wii-mote via Bluetooth to control a ported Duke Nukem!    For the ultra-nerdy, there's a Star Trek-style LCARS desktop interface, complete with authentic sounds. You need a miniSD or microSD card with adapter to expand your memory beyond the internal 2Gb. Cloning and dual-booting to a Class 6 SDHC card may increase the N810's speed or allow you to run another flavor of Linux.    You can connect USB keyboards and drives using an after-market microUSB to female USB A On-the-Go mode cable or a regular adapter cable with software OTG switch.    X-term via secure shell (ssh) allows hacking from PC. Incidentally, the device finds network share drives very easily.    Let's not forget VOIP calling with Skype or Gizmo. If you have one of the AT&T qualifying DSL plans, you can talk for free to a friend while at a Starbucks WiFi hotspot. Or listen to your MP3 playlist, or watch YouTube, or relive your favorite frakkin' Battlestar Galactica episode converted from DVD.    As described earlier, the N810 is truly the Swiss Army knife of the portable electronics world sans cell phone. You can use it just to feed your Palm dependence, but those among you tech-savvy and Linux-familiar enough can take full advantage of its capabilities. If you do buy this puppy, you can learn a lot from the forums at www.internettablettalk.com. Cheers!

This could possible even substitute for a real computer, especially in the internet dept. I find it hard to even write anything negative about it, I know it has flaws, but I haven't found any yet. I wish it had more apps (like using Google Gears offline), but when you get them for free, companys just don't develop them as much. Don't get me wrong, they are there, you just need to be more tech saavy to find them and install them, so it's not as user friendly as the iphone, but much less restrictive about everything you can do. Also make sure your phone company allows tethering to your phone (like sprint)for free it's far more convient than finding a Wi-Fi Hotspot. I've found that AT+T are seem to be buying up all the Wi-Fi Hotspots so getting on the internet may be costly if you don't ($8-10/month). Love the Stylus (which you'll need for internet) and replaceable battery. Both reasons I didn't get the Archos 5.

Bought from Buy.com in the low $200. Excellent product however mine did not come with a memory card like it was suppose to. I use it for only one purpose which is to select my music through my whole house audio system. I use Casatools software for this and it works great.

4 of 5 Great geek device Tuesday, February 17, 2009
    A Customer from Ankeny, IA
Great geek toy, swiss army knife of devices. It beat out iPod Touch for me due to linux-based (maemo) approach. I wouldn't recommend it for my mom. Updating firmware, downloading software, configuring Canola...Several steps to make it truly useful. Lots of positives and a few negatives. + Great price ($220) from buy.com. Retail price is too high. + Wifi & web browser are great. Flash support for pandora. + Canola is a great open source media player. + Speakers have nice sound in a relatively quiet room, but not car-worthy. + Lots of free software available including games. + Slide out keyboard is nice. + Great development environment: linux and python + Good community of users and developers behind it. + Nice design: size, screen, ports, surface. - Camera is lame and somewhat useless. - FM tuner and transmitter would be nice touches. - Must buy additional SDHC card to have enough storage. I haven't tried the GPS yet. I deleted the maps to free up some space.

5 of 5 Best handheld browsing experience by far Sunday, September 14, 2008
    Ric from Columbia MD
I got this to replace a beloved Tapwave Zodiac that used to serve as a Palm platform and gaming system. Since it was opensource and had a garnet emulator I was sold. (yay for keeping all my palm apps) Be prepared for a steep learning curve if you arent on top of Linux in general. But once youre on top of this device it is way more impressive than the iphone and any of the other smartphones I was considering, particularly if you arent looking for a phone in the first place or have one you wouldnt mind tethering this to. Once you hit the web with this you will soon see what I mean. A gorgeous browsing experience that loads stuff like you see it at home. the qwerty thumb keyboard is also as nice as any you could get on a device this size and with a ton of apps from maemo and emulataion for Palm and a lot of other computing stuff in the palm of your hand, this device delivers. Plugging in my phones and watching a converted movie on mplayer running 800 x 480 on a recent flight, sealed the deal with regards to multimedia. 2 GB on board and a mini SD card slot will give me expandability down the line too. If you consider yourself a bit of a geek like me and want something other than phone based handheld and less than a laptop, this is it.

    5 of 5 Warning - Highly Addictive Tuesday, August 05, 2008
A Customer from Winnipeg, MB, Canada
The product is designed mainly for someone who is a little tech savvy, that said I can see this product turning mainstream in the next couple of years with all the enhancements being released daily. The hardware is already there its the software that needs a little polishing. Canola2 is a great media player app it runs circles around the iPod touch interface when it comes to simplicity, MicroB, a Mozilla based browser renders just about any web page I have thrown at it and MPlayer will play just about any video format you have. There are still lots of UI tweaks needed to make it go mainstream, the GPS needs better software that can be used offline Maemo Mapper is great but offline use is rather limited, need an easier way to connect to Windows shares (Wizard mounter exists but some libraries are missing in newer versions of the OS. Overall, to get it working 100% you need to get your hands dirty with a little command line if you are comfortable with that then this is the gadget for you.

    5 of 5 N810 Great Device Tuesday, June 10, 2008
    rhuskjr from Springfield, MO
Bought this device for my wife I already have the N800. I can't say enough good things about this device. It made my day when my wife said she would like one after seeing my N800. I love the freedom of a device that allows for community built software. Even out of the box there is some much that comes with the N810 and even more can be added. It does require some reading it has a great community support forum called InternetTabletTalk.com that can answer any and all problems or changes you would like to make. If I had any complaints it would be that the stock interface is not customizable enough but there are many things that are bing done to change this. The OS is Linux and it has endless possibilities. I would love longer battery life (about 4-5 hours with heavy use). I also wish it had a better case one that could flip. Text editing is a little slim but that is also changing. Debian can now be booted off of the device allowing for a new interface and more apps. Great device but does require reading if you want more out of it than an internet browser and PIM (Portable Information Manager) and media device. Saw a review that said no organizer not true have choice of downlading the Palm version or GPE I prefer the simpler winzig which also works on your computer. Syncing with computer is very easy using Grsync. Other than interest in modifiable hardware I bought this to make up for all the information I kept losing on my palm from dying battery and poor syncing. I have my own opinion about it compared to an iPhone but there is no point because it is not meant to be a phone, it is an Internet Tablet and pretty much a little computer.

5 of 5 The world in the palm of your hand Wednesday, May 07, 2008
    xraybravo from Phoenix, AZ
With anticipation I carefully cut the tape on the box, The packaging wasn't very good from Buy.com, which isn't normal, but the contents was in great condition.( thanks to fedex) The tablet needed to be charged but only took 1 hour or so. The device setup was easy, but AZ isn't in the list for time so I live in Las Vegas now. I've been using the device for 2-3 weeks and haven't had any issues to speak of the software needed to be updated immediately. it bogs down on some mp4 videos and occasionally I have to power it off and back on to speed it up again, but that's normal for a computer. Not for a noob tho you have to be able to grasp its concept to be proficiant. I recommend this for who it was intended a geek on the go. Kudos to Nokia for making an amazing product line even better. I owned the 770 and am happy I skipped the 800. If your on the fence about this, it is amazing and you should buy it.

4 of 5 High Quality and handsome Tuesday, April 15, 2008
    A Customer from Mesa, AZ
Excellent unit, but since it needs a WiFi connect to hotspot or bluetooth connect to phone, it can't "do it" stand-alone. PROS: Excellent quality and chassis is sturdy and handsome (very clean look). Display is outstanding -- it's the best. However, web page text still shows at 4 pitch which is difficult for my 44 yr old eyes. Easy setup and effortless connect to WiFi. Touch screen very responsive when using stylus; not with fingers. Nokia Users Reference site is useful. CONS: No organizer! Must use web based service (e.g. gmail, hotmail, etc). To sync with online organizer, must download 3rd party FREE application (highly rated)from Nokia Users site. Even then, must be in WiFi to connect to organizer :-( Keyboard is very nice touch/feel; but difficult to access top row. Once a company (apparently other than Sprint) finally implements a wireless broadband, then a unit like this will be the way to go ... no doubt. But until then, it is without a reliable connection to access web and sync with other resources.

4 of 5 For stylus users, not finger or keyboard friendly. Monday, April 07, 2008
    A Customer from City, USA
I upgraded from a Pocket PC strictly to get better web surfing experiences and the Nokia N810 is great for this. Full web pages with flash, streaming video, internet radio, etc. I was already a stylus user so my input experience didn't change much, but anyone who wants to use the finger for input will be disappointed. The slide-out thumb keyboard is just too small and I have small thumbs. The pop-up, on-screen finger keyboard is not working well on OS2008, it won't pop-up all the time, this is a bug and hopefully Maemo works on this problem. I found the OS windows to lag sometimes. If you stick with the included apps (surfing, simple gps, notes, non-video skype, listening to mp3s and watching very simple video) then this is a great tool for mobile users. I use this on my nightstand for a quick surf without having to leave the bedroom or bootup a laptop.

    3 of 5 N810, a worthy successor to the N800! Wednesday, February 06, 2008
    A Customer from Belleville, NJ
The N810 has proven itself as a worthy personal assistant for accessing the web and email. It quickly and easily identifies compatible wi-fi networks. However, it just as quickly loses its connectivity. The keyboard, while desirable for web purposes, is quite small and demands two finger "hunt and peck" actions. Touch typing is certainly not possible. When I am able to download compatible text files, it will become a more critical tool in my bag of tricks.

5 of 5 This is an internet tablet/devie not an iPhone/pho Wednesday, January 30, 2008
    JRS from Fort Worth, TX
Ok. I read the recent reviews and must state that those who are comparing this to the iPhone need to realize that this is NOT a phone. Sure it has Skype but that's VoIP "phone". The iPhone is a dedicated cellular phone with glorified items. And the iPhone doesn't have MS Office either. Another plus for the N810 is it's ability to switch 8GB MiniSD cards. Can the iPhone do that ? No. The iPhone is an "apple". The N810 is an "Orange". When you make comparison's make sure you compare two similar devices. The N810 is an internet tablet that tries to be a phone and a GPS (and webcam). Wanna move MP3 files to the N810 ? Just drag the MP3s to the Mini-SD card. The device automatically sees what's on the card. The iPhone is a great phone that wants to be an internet tablet and a great MP3 player. Wanna move MP3s to the iPhone - ya gotta use iTunes. One day we'll have one device that 'does it all'. Eventually the price of the N810 will go down to the low $300's. It only took Apple 2(?) months to lower the price of the iPhone. Maemo is still fairly new. Just give a few more months and there will be some developers developing some cool software. Someone asked me what the N810 was and I showed them what it can do. Then they asked "How much?" and they balked. One other guy commented: "The reason why he bought is two-fold. 1) He can afford it 2) It does what he wants to get done.". The iPhone is still an expensive phone but if it does what you want it to do - - then buy it (if you can afford it). The iPhone and a Sony VAIO are the perfect gadgets for the Ultimate Road Warrior (or better known as "oustide salesman"). Now if you compare the ASUS eee with the N810 - - that is an equal-device comparison.

    4 of 5 Better Buy A Iphone Tuesday, January 29, 2008
    SSS.... from houston,Texas
My personal recommendation would be to buy a iphone instead of nokia n810 since I have both iphone and nokia n810. Basically GPS in n810 sucks and you have to subscribe for the service. I liked some basic features of the n810 like awesome full pull out qwerty keyboard and great Browsing experience. But There is no Microsoft Office and yahoo messenger or msn messenger. I liked the style and looks of tablet, but its not worth the money we are paying for it. Better Buy a Iphone which has all benefits and features which n810 could do.....

4 of 5 A toy that's not really ready for mainstream Tuesday, January 29, 2008
    A Customer from Boston, MA
Most people who will buy this like myself like cutting edge technology for early adopters...I bought this because I am intrigued by the concept behind this device. It is a hybrid ...It still has some rough edges...None of the functionality is completely streamlined yet and is cumbersome to use. Most applications fall short of delivering the ideal experience in usability but they give you a taste of how awesome this device can be if its polished up. Things that leave you wanting more: - GPS service is frustratingly limited without additional subscription cost. Alternatives from Maemo are not well integrated requiring internet connection for real time map data or requiring a download prior to using the routing - Internet connection through bluetooth with your phone uses the Bluetooth DUN profile which will not work with most WM phones that need bluetooth PAN... You need to do some hacking to get that to work...This makes this device even more frustrating because you cannot use it where you would like to. - Email application with IMAP functionality to Gmail or others is buggy.Application takes forever to download the message even it is a small text message. - Multimedia experience is much better but the UPnP streaming from local servers is not something the CPU can handle gracefully. The idea gets you excited but the experience leaves you disappointed.

5 of 5 Depends on What You Use It For Thursday, January 24, 2008
    Guy01 from Denver, CO
Bought this device mainly for checking email and the web while I'm in the yard, or in bed. Have it for just a few days, but I like it a lot.<br> <br> * Like:<br> - Excellent display<br> - Good Wifi<br> - More features and flexibilities than the Touch (i.e. GPS, memory card slot, removable battery)<br> * Dislike:<br> - Cannot use it in "portrait" display mode (or at least I haven't yet figured out how)<br> - No video output to TV or external monitor<br> - No "Open Link in New Tab" for the web browser, so you have to use the Back button, and therefore reload the previous page which you were on<br> <br> Despite all of the dislikes mentioned, the N810 is a very cool device. It's not a PDA, but there's a simple word processor. And if you have Wifi access, you can use your Google Doc to create and save documents, calendar, or whatever.

1 of 5 Verdict on the Nokia n810: fail Monday, January 21, 2008
    bblackmoor from Richmond, VA
I was very excited to get my hands on a n810. Unfortunately, not only does it *not* do what I have using my Palm for for the better part of a decade, it also does not do what I would want a Linux handheld to do. No desktop sync, no decent PIM apps, and the Garnet VM is, shall we say, not a replacement for a real Palm (not even close). So it won't replace my Palm T5. Meanwhile, I can't install or compile the vast majority of Linux applications, including Shadow Plan, OpenOffice, and a host of others. So it won't take the place of a laptop, even for such a basic task as working on a report while riding the train to work. What it does do very well is surf the web. If you happen to be standing near a WiFi hotspot. Whee. I am returning mine. Maybe some day there will be a Linux handheld that can replace my Palm T5, but the Nokia n810 is not it. What I do not understand is why this is so difficult to accomplish. PIMs are not new. Desktop sync is not new. Palm has been doing it for years. We have better hardware, faster processors, higher-resolution screens, better batteries, more memory than anyone has ever had before. So what's the obstacle? Where is the Linux based Palm-killer? Not even "killer" -- merely "replacement". Where is it? Where?

I have both nokia n810 and apple iphone. I would prefer iphone instead of nokia n810 for a simple reason that nokia n810 is not worth money which we are paying.. It has all packed features but does not have microsoft office and more important is it cannot be used as a phone. Also GPS need subscription... But in looks it is better compared to iphone and also it has good to carry anywhere. It depends upon your utlility to use this device. I would prefer iphone in comparison with this product.

My opinion would be worth to buy iphone instead of nokia n810 tablet. I bought this but I am not much satisfied with money i have spent on it. I have got iphone too with me and i feel iphone can perform almost all functions that this tablet can do. My overall opinion is nokia n810 is a good one (in looks, in browsing internet, using skype, etc. ) but not worth money i spent on it. So before buying it, think of iphone.

First..Buy.com Rocks ! Okay, the Nokia N810 is great,it's easy to use and set up,web pages load fast,it's like having a laptop in your palm. Personally I use the onscreen keyboard, unless you're real dexterious I don't think it is good for typing long emails or blogs but for surfing the net you can't go wrong. Has GPS,web cam,and at their site there are plenty of software downloads to enhance your Nokia N810. Charge seems to last longer than they say..5 to 6 hours.Re-charge is fast! Get one while you can...from Buy.com of course, got mine in a few days after waiting for over a month from another company (Dell).Got it for LESS money too ! p.s. make sure if you buy a card it's a mini or micro ! regular ones dont fit!

    5 of 5 One heckuva device ! Tuesday, January 15, 2008
    JRS from Keller, Texas
I bought the N810 based on a recommendation by an owner of the N800. I did take the N800 for 'spin' for about 1 hour. It was nice and gave me that extra nudge to go for the N810. I've had the N810 for about 2 weeks now and it's been with me everywhere. It connects to my friends' wireless networks without fail and with ease. The QWERTY keyboard did take some time to learn as I have to push the FN key to get numbers to work - but that's not a showstopper. The built-in PDF reader has given me freedom to bring important (encrypted) files with me. GoogleTalk works great with the device. The GPS is fair but shouldn't be considered a replacement of a dedicated GPS system. It does take 3-5 minutes for it to 'sync' with the GPS satellites. The streaming FM Radio is awesome. The Maemo user community does have several programs you can install - - and I recommend installing some of them. In summary, my wife says I'm addicted to the device. She's right. One item to note is about joining some WiFi service such as Boingo or T-Mobile. Starbucks locations are (mostly) T-Mobile. Boingo is another. I suggest visiting their websites and choosing the best one that fits your needs. Yes, even McDonalds has a WiFi system. The only single drawback I have with the device is it's inability to print. I have the 4GB MiniSD card and would gladly buy an 8GB if it allowed me to install printer drivers.

    5 of 5 Awesome device Friday, January 11, 2008
A Customer from Los Angeles, CA
Love it, must be in my pocket at all times. Great for web surfing, reading, chat/skype... and the more technical will appreciate that it runs on a very open Linux platform. Comes with Xterm on it, and OpenSSH is installed with a few clicks. Excellent wifi reception. QWERTY keyboard is very functional after a little bit of getting used to. Also can use an onscreen keyboard, handwriting recognition, or any bluetooth input. Trivial to pair it with a bluetooth phone for internet access. Maybe not a laptop replacement, but a laptop doesn't fit in my pocket.

The N810 is a great product. I runs all of the included software very well and quickly. It would be nice to see more productivity apps included- maybe a voice recorder. The only disconcerting issue is my aging eyes. It is small and can be hard to read, but I am very satisfied with this purchase.

Don't listen to the bitter people around, this is the best gadget I ever bought. I refuse to subscribe for a cell phone service, and this is the cheapest way to call my family in europe, it's FREE!!!! (via skype) the screen is great or watching movies and youtube, the news... you can leave it on all the time, just recharge it while you're sleeping like your cell phone. Don't forget to update your software when you receve your nokia or you won't be able to download skype.

A Customer from Upper Marlboro MD
Nice well built item. This is in no way a laptop or desktop replacement. It is a mobile companion. I will admit that I tend to only use it in my home while watching television. I can say that you should not buy this item if you own an ipod touch or iphone. It is a great deal powerful than both. Skype is an excellent feature on this phone. One of the only drawbacks is that bluetooth connectivity with my phone as a modem is real choppy. A definite buy if you are a big techie. I love mine it has postponed my purchase of a macbook pro.

4 of 5 Cool, but not without flaws... Tuesday, December 18, 2007
    Jon from Hartland, WI
I have had my N810 for about two weeks now. It's a great little web-surfing device, and with a large memory card installed, it makes for a good media player. I like the internal speakers - you can listen to music without needing headphones, which is a big plus for this over an iPod touch. The web-browser works fine - it supports some more advanced websites like youtube. On some things it just isn't fast enough to work properly, but it has a lot better website support than most other small devices (i.e. Blackberries and Windows Mobile phones) that I have used. I have two main complaints about the device. First, the design is a bit odd. It takes a lot of effort to push the buttons - especially the power switch, the 'back' button, and the directional pad. Not the end of the world, but pushing any of these buttons really makes you think about it - they are stiff and just hard to push... Secondly, for an awesome device that has a GPS built in, the GPS software sucks. In order to do point-to-point navigation, you need to pay another $130 for the full software. That's just stupid when stand-alone GPS units now sell regularly for $150. If you DON'T buy the full software, you just have a basic map display that shows the roads around you. That's just insulting to anybody that bought this device for the GPS. Overall, the GPS limitation is a major pitfall, but the rest of the device behaves about as well as can be expected.

5 of 5 The future is here Friday, December 14, 2007
    Timinator1967 from Boca Raton, Fla
I am a self described as well as a friend, family, & co-worker identified Gadget Guru. That being said, it takes a lot to "impress" me. The Nokia N810 does just that. I will always have a cell phone with me & I only use it to make calls or play an occasional game. I never needed or wanted music or web on my phone, because it runs down the battery big time. So I always carried a laptop(17"; about the same weight). Then I switched to a 4 lb laptop. Now I have the Nokia N810 & I am beside myself with joy. Everything I could want or need to do I can do on the N810 already or will be able to do shortly as this product has excellent 3rd party support, unlike the iphone which sticks it to you with the take it or leave attitude. Even being brand new I was amazed at the # of 3rd party app's that are available, including games; & almost all are absolutely free. I can't wait to see what happens in the next couple of months. Im not going to pick apart the machine as a reviewer would, I'll just say that as a whole package The N810 is the Real Deal. The only caution I can offer is if you arent computer savvy you may find yourself in over your head initially. There is a moderate learning curve. If you take your time getting to know your N810 ( interface, shortcuts, etc.) you'll be fine. This really is the future.

5 of 5 Powerful Internet tool Saturday, December 08, 2007

I've had my N810 for less than a week, but am amazed at how powerful and flexible it is. I'm not used to a thumb keyboard, but it seems to work quite well although I'm a little slow at it. The provided GPS software works well and there are alternatives to it already out their from the apparently large group of open source developers contributing to its Maemo linux and the N810, in particular. I was able to trivially add a lot of free software to the device after firing it up and I can watch and listen to internet broadcasts, browse most all sites and view local video/audio/photos on my local network. The forums that are available have solutions to most of the issues one may encounter. Incredible for such a tiny device. And I'm only just beginning to use it. My only negative is that it doesn't have Java on it, but that is being worked on.

    5 of 5 N810 Great...Small Issues Thursday, December 06, 2007
    Black from Chicago, IL
I bought this device in order to stop booting up my laptop every time I needed to check a website. I wanted an instant on always connected device which could render the web as near to my normal system as possible. Everyone else will expound on how great it is, I agree with them, but want to note some small caveats.<br> <br> 1. The device is amazing and well worth the money.<br> 2. IMAP with gMail is not currently working. You'll get headers, but not mail<br>     data. POP3 supposedly works fine.<br> 3. N810 has one miniSDHC slot not two SDHC slots like the N800. I am planning<br>     to buy an 8 GB microSDHC card and put it in a miniSD adapter (Can't find 8<br>     GB microSDHC at all)<br> 4. Webcam camera exists, but no software really takes advantage. I hear Gizmo<br>     VoIP client can though.<br> 5. Map program is rudimentary at best. Wish Google Maps would work, but no<br>     such luck.<br> 6. Speaking of Google Maps there is no Java Virtual Machine (JVM) built in, so<br>     no Google Maps or gMail App.<br> 7. N810 is very new, so forums and blogs are the current best way to learn of<br>     new features, there is no one place that holds all the great tips, software,<br>     documentation or support.<br> 8. Mini USB interface on the N810 is non standard. Not sure how that will<br>     affect anyone, but it is annoying in the esoteric sense.<br> 9. No MS Office document support by default be prepared to convert the files.<br> <br> With all of the above the device is still totally worth it. I got Gizmo SIP to work, Skype running, Google Talk, rDesktop (RDP), eBook Reader all up with little to no hassle.
